coms Drill of the Week Series

Week 1 - Slow Fire Marksmanship
Range: 25yd Target: NRA B8 replacement center (download pdf here, courtesy Tom Jones) Start position: Any Rounds fired: 10 Fire ten rounds at the 8.5x11 B8 replacement center target (click link above to download the pdf file to print this target). There is no time limit. Add up the score for all ten shots. Keep in mind that the "7" ring is visible but not identified, and the four corners of the target are technically the "6" ring. For hits on the line between two scoring zones, use the higher scoring value only if the grease ring of the bullet hole cuts the line between the two zones. Tears and other marks that are greater than the bullet's diameter do not count for scoring. Shots that do not hit the sheet of paper score zero.

Week 2 - The 4567 Drill

Range: 7yd Target: 6" circle (download pdf here) Start position: varies, see below Rounds fired: 20 The 4567 was inspired by Gila Hayess 54 drill and the various iterations thereof. The drill is run four times, five rounds each, on a six inch circle, at seven yards. A shot timer is used to begin each string of fire. The four strings of fire are: 1. 2. 3. 4. draw and fire 5 rounds from concealment, two-handed draw and fire 5 rounds from concealment, strong hand only from the ready position fire 5 rounds, weak hand only draw and fire 5 rounds from concealment, two-handed (repeat of string 1)

For any shot outside of the 6 circle, add 1 second to your time. Total the times (and penalties) for all four strings to determine your overall score: Basic: score total time with penalties is 4+5+6+7 = 22 seconds Intermediate: is 5+6+7 seconds = 18 seconds Advanced: is 6+7 = 13 seconds This drill is also compatible with the Q-PT target using the inner (white outline) center of mass circle.

Week 3 - Dot Torture Drill

Range: 3yd or greater Target: ten 2" circles (download pdf here) Start position: varies Rounds fired: 50 Dot Torture is a comprehensive marksmanship test that is easy to set up on almost any firing range. There is absolutely no time limit. The only thing scored is the number of hits you make out of 50 shots fired. Any bullet that clearly touches the scoring line of the intended target circle is counted as a hit. Rounds that hit a different circle do not count as hits. There are no make-up shots allowed; you must fire exactly fifty total rounds in the specified order. If you have never done this before, shoot the test at three yards. If you have successfully shot a perfect 50 at three yards in the past, you can shoot it at any distance that challenges you. 1. Dot 1 Draw and fire one string of 5 rounds for best group. One hole if possible, total 5 rounds. 2. Dot 2 Draw and fire 1 shot, holster and repeat X4, total 5 rounds. 3. Dots 3 & 4 Draw and fire 1 shot on #3, then 1 shot on #4, holster and repeat X3, total 8 rounds. 4. Dot 5 Draw and fire string of 5 rounds, strong hand only, total 5 rounds. 5. Dots 6 & 7 Draw and fire 2 shots on #6, then 2 on #7, holster, repeat X4, total 16 rounds. 6. Dot 8 From ready or retention, fire five shots, weak hand only, total 5 rounds. 7. Dots 9 & 10 Draw and fire 1 shot on #9, reload, fire 1 shot on #10, holster and repeat X3, total 6 rounds. Note: if you are using the Q-PT target, the strings work out slightly different: 1. Dot A Draw and fire one string of 5 rounds for best group. One hole if possible, total 5 rounds. 2. Dot A (again) Draw and fire 1 shot, holster and repeat X4, total 5 rounds. 3. Dots 1 & 2 Draw and fire 1 shot on #1, then 1 shot on #2, holster and repeat X3, total 8 rounds. 4. Dot 3 Draw and fire string of 5 rounds, strong hand only, total 5 rounds. 5. Dots 4 & 5 Draw and fire 2 shots on #4, then 2 on #5, holster, repeat X4, total 16 rounds. 6. Dot 6 From ready or retention, fire five shots, weak hand only, total 5 rounds. 7. Dot B Draw and fire 1 shot, reload, fire 1 more shot, holster, and repeat X3, total 6 rounds.

Week 3 - Bill Drill

Range: 7yd Target: IPSC A-zone, IDPA -0 zone, or 8" circle Start position: holstered Rounds fired: 5 strings of 6 shots each You will need a shot timer for this DotW. Actually, you'll need a shot timer for most DotWs so if you don't have one, either buy one or at least download one onto your smartphone. Very easy drill this week. Draw and fire six rounds at the target. Record your time. Repeat for a total of five runs (30 rounds). Please report the following when you post your results in this thread: Target used Start position (open, concealed, retention holster) Number of hits out of 30 Total time

Week 5 - Sweet Sixteen Dill

Range: varies Target: 3x5 card Start position: ready; standing unsupported Rounds fired: 16 This is a variation of a classic walkback drill. You get exactly sixteen rounds. You can begin with the target at any distance you choose. Fire one round at the target. hit: add one yard and repeat miss: stay at same distance and repeat Your score is the farthest target that you successfully hit. If you miss three times at the same distance, the drill ends even if you still have ammunition remaining. E.g., if you miss your first shot at the 7yd line, then miss your second attempt at the 7yd line, and miss your third attempt at the 7yd line the drill is over even if you have only fired three rounds and scored no hits. This prevents someone from beginning at the 50yd line and hoping for one hit out of 16 shots. If you don't miss, you'll end up 15yd farther than your first shot. E.g., if you start at the 5yd line and get all your hits, your last shot will be at the 20yd line. For added adventure, you can repeat the drill SHO and WHO. Please report the following when you post your results in this thread: Starting distance Distance of farthest successful hit

Week 6 Typewriter Drill

Range: 5yd Target: 6 2" circles on the downloadable target from pistol-training.com Start position: holstered Rounds fired: 24 On the beep, draw and fire one round at each of the six 2" circles in order from #1 to #6 and then immediately repeat from #1 to #6 again for a total of twelve rounds fired. Record your time. Then starting from the holster again, on the beep draw and fire one round at each of the six 2" circles in reverse order from #6 to #1 then immediately repeat from #6 to #1 again. Record your time. You must shoot the targets in proper order each time. Your score is the number of hits you made (out of 24) divided by your total time for the two strings of fire. So for example if you get 23 hits and shoot it in 25.55 seconds your score is: 23 25.55 = 0.80 This drill is not capacity-neutral. If your handgun holds less than 12 rounds, you will need to reload during the drill. If your pistol holds less than 6 rounds, you will need to reload more than once. The time for the reload counts toward your score. If your range does not allow drawing from a holster, start from a ready position with the muzzle pointed off the target and add two seconds to your time for each string. Please report the following when you post your results in this thread: Pistol's ammo capacity Type of draw (open, concealed, retention holster) Hits Times Score

ToddGs DotW 6 results: Part of the reason I stole CCT125US's drill for this week was due to the recent discussion in the Speed vs Accuracy thread and in particular joshs's comments about IPSC hit factor as it relates to scoring. This drill, for all intents and purposes, uses IPSC scoring. As such, I decided to run it three times with three different goals. First, I ran it like I would at an IPSC match ... focused on hits but not striving for perfect accuracy at the cost of speed. string 1: 7.07 seconds, -1 hit string 2: 6.88 seconds, -2 hits 21 total hits total time 13.95 seconds = 1.51 Finally, I shot 'til the wheels fell off and kept shooting. string 1: 5.61 seconds, -6 hits string 2: 5.48 seconds, -3 hits 15 total hits total time of 11.09 seconds = 1.35

Second, I took the time to guarantee every hit. string 1: 9.71 seconds, clean string 2: 10.62 seconds, clean 24 total hits total time of 20.33 seconds = 1.18

All three runs were with my G17 gen4 endurance test gun loaded to 12rd. Draws were from concealment underneath a half-zip fleece. So even when hits and misses have equal weight (all or nothing points), under this scheme it can be better to go fast and miss than slow down to guarantee every hit. Now for giggles, let's take the IPSC scoring another step. Instead of all or nothing hits and misses, Let's call the circle 5 points and the area around it 4 points (like a C-zone). My scores become: First balanced run (117 points) = 8.39 Second perfect run (120 points) = 5.90 Third wild run (111 points) = 10.01 And that is how, in IPSC, you can miss fast enough to win.

Week 7 3x5 Speed Push Drill

Range: 7yd (or other, see below) Target: 3x5 card Start position: shooter's choice Rounds fired: 40 You will need a shot timer for this drill. This week's exercise is about pushing yourself for speed on a low% target. It will involve hitting a 3x5 card at seven yards. If you cannot consistently hit a 3x5 card at seven yards slow fire, then decrease the distance to one at which you can make 3x5 hits on demand when time is not a factor. Start position is up to the shooter but should be consistent throughout the drill. The 3x5 card should be placed horizontally (3" tall and 5" wide). There are two strings of fire: String 1: During the first string, your goal is to get 100% hits. On the beep, fire two rounds at the 3x5; record the time and the number of hits Repeat for a total of ten runs (20 shots) String 2: During the second string, your goal is to push yourself to manipulate the gun faster. Set a PAR time equal to the fastest clean run you had during String 1. On the beep, fire two rounds at the 3x5 card trying to get both shots off before the PAR time is up If you got both hits under the PAR, record your time If you failed to get both hits under the PAR, record the number of hits you did get (zero or one) Please report the following when you post your results in this thread: distance Start position (ready, open holster, concealed, retention holster) Best time for string 1 # of hits within the time limit for string 2 Best clean time for string 2

Week 8 Diminishing PAR 1-R-2 Drill

Range: 7yd Target: 6" circle (download a PDF version here) Start position: shooter's choice Rounds fired: varies You will need a shot timer for this drill and you will need to know how to operate the PAR function. Like last week, this DotW is about pushing your speed. It works in a similar but different way. Start position is up to the shooter but should be consistent throughout the drill. The 6" circle is placed at 7yd. Begin with a PAR time that you can confidently hit the 6" circle, perform a reload (either a speed/in-battery reload or a slidelock reload), and get two more hits on the circle. If you're successful, reduce the PAR time by 0.1 seconds. If you are not successful, increase the PAR by 0.1 seconds. Do not make incremental changes greater than 0.1 seconds even if your times are much farther from the PAR. Continue the drill until you run out of ammo, hit a wall (you keep bouncing back between a few PAR times, getting hits at the slower speed but unable to pull it all off at the higher speed), or you get bored. For example: 1. Draw and 1-R-2 with 3 second PAR. Got all hits. 2. Change PAR to 2.9, got all hits. 3. Change PAR to 2.8, got all hits. 4. Change PAR to 2.7, missed one or more. 5. Increase PAR to 2.8, got all hits. 6. Change PAR to 2.7 again, got all hits. 7. Change PAR to 2.6, missed one or more. 8. Increase PAR to 2.7... etc.

Please report the following when you post your results in this thread: Start position (ready, open holster, concealed, retention holster) Type of reload (speed/in-battery or slidelock) Starting PAR Best PAR (all hits) # of rounds fired total

Week 9 - 3x5 Range Push Drill

Range: varies (begins at 5yd) Target: 3x5 card Start position: shooter's choice Rounds fired: varies You will need a shot timer for this drill. Similar to Week 7's "Speed Push" the Range Push is designed to force you to work harder at hitting a low% target under time pressure. Instead of lowering the time, this week we'll increase the distance. Start position is up to the shooter but should be consistent throughout the drill. The 3x5 card should be placed horizontally (3" tall and 5" wide). There are two strings of fire: String 1: During the first string, your goal is to get 100% hits. On the beep, fire two rounds at the 3x5 at 5yd; record the time and the number of hits Repeat until you get three clean runs String 2: During the second string, your goal is to push yourself to manipulate the gun faster. Set a PAR time equal to the middle speed run (not fastest, not slowest) you had during String 1. Put the target out to 6yd On the beep, fire two rounds at the 3x5 card trying to get both shots off before the PAR time is up If you got both hits under the PAR add 1yd to the distance of the target and go again at the same PAR If you failed to get both hits under the PAR, go back to the last distance (one less yard) and try to do three clean runs in a row at that distance Keep decreasing the distance until you can get three clean runs in a row under PAR, then stop and record your distance Please report the following when you post your results in this thread: Start position (ready, open holster, concealed, retention holster) PAR used distance at which you were able to get three clean runs under PAR

Week 10 99 Drill
Range: 7-15yd Target: varies (see below) Start position: concealed, hands relaxed at sides Rounds fired: 99 The last few weeks' drills have been leading up to this. It is one of my favorite, and most humbling, drills. This was developed as a way to practice fundamentals (marksmanship at speed, draws, and reloads) with limited time and ammunition. Individual drills are shot multiple times to provide actual training benefit rather than just serving as a test of current skill level. 7 yards, 2.5sec PAR: draw and shoot three (10 times, total 30 rounds) 7 yards, 5.0sec PAR: draw, fire one, reload, fire two (10 times, total 30 rounds) 10 yards, 3.5sec PAR: draw and shoot three (10 times, total 30 rounds) 15 yards, 5.0sec PAR: draw and shoot three (3 times, total 9 rounds) Either 46 or 35 cards can be used as targets. The 35 version is obviously significantly more difficult. All shots must be fired before the end of the PAR time; shots fired after the PAR count as misses. If your range does not allow drawing from a holster, reduce the PAR for each string of fire by one second (so 1.5, 4.0, 2.5, and 4.0). If you want to run the DotW from an open or duty/retention holster, please first shoot it from concealment and then report both scores. Please report the following when you post your results in this thread: Start position (ready or concealed) target used score for each of the four strings of fire total score

Week 11 - Bullseye Three Way Drill

Range: 25yd Target: B8 replacement center Start position: any Rounds fired: 30 Time to dial things back after weeks of going fast, faster, fasterer. Using the provided B8 replacement, fire a ten-shot group at 25yd with no time limit and your normal 2-handed grip. Do not use a standard B8 target, as it will give you more scoring area than the pdf provides. Then repeat on a second target but shooting strong hand only. Then repeat on a third target weak hand only. Please report the following when you post your results in this thread: score for each string of fire total score

Week 12 SWYNTS Drill

Range: 5yd Target: 6" circle, 3x5 card, 2" circle (see here for 6" and 2" on same sheet of paper) Start position: holstered (if possible) Rounds fired: 75 Ideally, this exercise is shot from concealment or a duty rig. However, if you want to use race gear or must shoot from a ready position rather than holstered, simply indicate it with your results. 1. Draw and fire 5 rounds at the 6" circle as fast as you can guarantee good hits. Record your time and your hits. Repeat for a total of five runs, 25rd. If you get more than three misses in the entire string of 25 at 6", you need to start again and slow down. 2. Draw and fire 5 rounds at the 3x5 card as fast as you can guarantee good hits. Record your time and your hits. Repeat for a total of five runs, 25rd. If you get more than three misses in the entire string of 25 at the 3x5, you need to start again and slow down. 3. Draw and fire 5 rounds at the 2" circle as fast as you can guarantee good hits. Record your time and your hits. Repeat for a total of five runs, 25rd. If you get more than three misses in the entire string of 25 at the 2", you need to start again and slow down. The goal of the drill is to get familiar with how fast you can go depending on the difficulty of the shot. If a particular size target requires you to switch from shooting fast to bullseye slowfire mode in order to get hits, that is acceptable. Please report the following when you post your results in this thread: starting position (concealed, duty, open holster, or ready position) total time and score for string 1 total time and score for string 2 total time and score for string 3 any times you had to start over on a string due to misses

Week 13 - The F.A.S.T. Drill

Range: 7yd Target: 8" circle and 3x5 card (see here for a downloadable target; this target [i]must be printed on an 8.5x14 "legal" sheet of paper) Start position: concealed, hands relaxed at sides (see below for alternatives) Rounds fired: 18 Lucky number 13... the F.A.S.T.! Pistol begins with exactly two rounds in the gun. Draw should be from underneath legitimate concealment (see below for alternatives). Arms must be relaxed with hands at your sides (not on the gun). 1. On the buzzer, draw and fire two rounds at the 3x5 card. 2. Reload from slidelock/empty gun. 3. Fire four rounds to the 8" circle. Repeat for a total of three runs (18 rounds). Do not fire extra rounds. Shots intended for the 3x5 that hit the 8", or vice versa, count as misses. Scoring is as follows: Total time + 2s penalty for each 3x5 shot missed + 1s penalty for each 8" shot missed The drill is intended to be shot from legitimate concealment or with a duty/retention holster. Even when shot with a duty holster, start position is arms at sides (not "interview" stance). Score is modified as follows based on carry method: Concealed: no penalty retention holster with closed (snap or velcro) mag pouches: 0.5 second bonus (subtraction) per 6-shot run retention holster with open top mag mag pouches: no penalty or bonus ALS, SERPA, or Thumb Drive (or similar) holster without concealment: 0.5 second penalty (addition) per 6-shot run open top holster without concealment: 3 second penalty (addition) per 6-shot run If your range does not allow drawing from a holster, begin with the gun on a table with no round in the chamber (two in the magazine). On the start signal, pick up the gun, rack the slide, and shoot the drill. Reload from underneath concealment. Please report the following when you post your results in this thread: starting position (concealed, duty, open holster, or ready position) type of holster (if applicable) time and hits for string 1 time and hits for string 2 time and hits for string 3 aggregate score

Week 14 iHack Drill

Range: 5yd Target: three 2" circles (.pdf target downloadable here) Start position: varies (see below) Rounds fired: 36 The iHack is an indoor range friendly version of the famous Hackathorn 3-Second Headshot Standards. The targets are much closer together but also significantly smaller than the regular version of the drill. PAR time is set to three seconds for each string. There are three strings of fire. 1. Fire one (and only one) shot at each target, going from left to right 2. Fire one (and only one) shot at each target, going from right to left. 3. Fire one (and only one) shot at each target, beginning with the middle target and then finishing with the two outside targets in any order. Shots fired after the 3-second PAR time count as misses. In total, you will fire nine rounds (three shots in three seconds, times three strings of fire) for each run of the drill. A "passing" score is 7 out of 9. There are three "levels" to the drill based on start position for each 3-shot string. From easiest to hardest, they are: ready position (pistol cannot be pointed at the target), open top holster with no concealment, and either concealed or retention holster. You can choose whichever ready position you wish. If the drill proves too hard or easy, switch to a different "level" as appropriate. Shoot the drill a total of four times (36 shots). Please report the following when you post your results in this thread: starting position (ready position, open holster, retention holster, or concealed) hits for each of the four runs aggregate score

Week 15 Changing Gears Drill

Range: 5yd or 7yd Target: two 3x5 cards and one 8" circle Start position: varies (see below) Rounds fired: 48 This DotW is intended to practice engaging different size targets at appropriate speed: go fast when you can, go slow when you must. If you're confident you can hit a 3x5 card at 7yd, perform the drill at that distance. Otherwise, try it at 5yd. Start with an 8" circle target (we'll call this target Middle). Place a 3x5 card one foot above and slightly to the left of the circle (we'll call this Left), and another 3x5 card one foot above and slightly to the right of the circle (we'll call this Right). On the beep, engage the targets as quickly as you can guarantee hits. Each string of fire you'll shoot eight total rounds. There are six strings of fire. You will engage the targets in the following order: 1. two rounds to Left, two rounds to Middle, two rounds to Right, two rounds to Middle again 2. 2 Middle, 2 Right, 2 Middle, 2 Left 3. 2 Right, 2 Middle, 2 Left, 2 Middle 4. repeat #1 5. repeat #2 6. repeat #3 Every time you engage a target zone, you shoot it twice. You always engage the 8" circle twice each string (2 shots each time for a total of four). Please report the following when you post your results in this thread: distance (5yd or 7yd) starting position (ready position, open holster, retention holster, or concealed) time and hits for each string aggregate time and hits for all six strings

Week 16 Acceleration Drill

Range: 7yd Target: 8" circle, IPSC A-zone, or sheet of paper Start position: mid-draw (see below) Rounds fired: varies The goal of this drill is to push draw speed both in terms of mechanical and visual control of the pistol. You will need a shot timer with a PAR time function. First, time yourself to draw and get six shots on your target at 7yd. If you do not get all six hits on your first run, repeat until you get a time for six shots, six hits. Write this time down. It will serve as a reference. Next, you'll begin the actual Acceleration drill. Start position for each string of fire will be the mid point of your drawstroke where your support hand contacts the gun. You are specifically working on improving your draw, so don't cheat yourself. Keep this starting position constant throughout the drill. Set your timer to a PAR of 1.0 seconds. For the first string of fire, on the buzzer present the gun from your starting position and fire one round. Repeat for a total of ten runs (ten rounds). Record the number of hits and any instances when you went over PAR. If you got at least 90% of your hits under PAR during string one, you'll move on to the second string. On the buzzer present the gun from your starting position and fire two rounds. Repeat for a total of ten runs (twenty rounds). Record the number of hits and any instances when you went over PAR. Note: the PAR time does not change, you just have to get more hits within the same amount of time. If you got at least 90% of your hits under PAR during string two, you'll move on to the third string. On the buzzer present the gun from your starting position and fire three rounds. Repeat for a total of ten runs (thirty rounds). Record the number of hits and any instances when you went over PAR. Repeat this process adding one shot to each presentation (ten tries at 4 per, then ten tries at 5 per, etc.) until you can no longer get 90% of your hits within the PAR time. Once you've reached the failure point, reshoot the test from the beginning of the drill: draw and fire six shots on your target from 7yd. Record your results and compare with your starting time. If you cannot draw from the holster, instead use a ready position for the entire drill (both the tests before & after and the Acceleration drill). If you cannot consistently get at least two hits on the target within the 1.0 second PAR time, increase the PAR by half a second and complete the entire exercise at that PAR time instead. Please report the following when you post your results in this thread: starting position for the "test" phases (ready position, open holster, retention holster, or concealed) number of misses for each string number of times over PAR for each string time for pre-drill 6 shot "test" time for post-drill 6 shot "test"

Week 17 2 Shot Draw on Two Targets Drill

Range: 5yd+ Target: two 3x5 cards Start position: holstered Rounds fired: 20-60 This drill was developed primarily to address the DA/SA transition for traditional double action pistols. However, it is also valid for SA, DAO, and SFA guns. Begin holstered at 5yd. Draw and fire one shot to the first 3x5 card, keeping the trigger pulled all the way to the rear after the shot is fired. Aim at the second card, then allow the trigger forward to reset, and fire one round at the second card. Repeat for a total of ten pairs (20 shots). Compare the group size/location between your first card (which should be ten single shots from the draw) and your second card (which should be ten single shots from reset). If you got all your hits on both cards at 5yd, repeat the process at 7yd. If you score 100% hits at 7yd, increase to 10yd and repeat again. The primary goal for this drill is to make the shooter aware of the difference between the trigger's movement from rest (fully forward) and from reset (fully back). If the two 3x5 cards at a given distance look substantially different (e.g., if one card has all hits and the other has many misses; or, one has a centered group and the other is grouped low left), then you know that you're doing something different in the way you manipulate the trigger when transitioning from first shot to follow-up shots. If you cannot draw from the holster, instead begin from a ready position. Please report the following when you post your results in this thread: starting position (ready position, open holster, retention holster, or concealed) number of misses for each card at 5yd number of misses for each card at 7yd (if scored 100% at 5yd) number of misses for each card at 10yd (if scored 100% at 7yd)

Week 18 Draws & Reloads Drill

Range: 7yd Target: 8" circle Start position: holstered Rounds fired: 60 This week we are really going to drill, repeating similar techniques multiple times to build skill. First, draw and fire 3 rounds at the 8" circle. Record your total time and your draw (first shot). Repeat for a total of 10 runs, 30 rounds. Second, draw and fire 1 round at the 8" circle, reload, and fire two more rounds at the 8" circle. Record your total time, your draw, and your reload. Repeat for a total of 10 runs, 30 rounds. (this is just like the first two parts of the 99 Drill, but on a much bigger target so you should be able to push your speed accordingly) If you cannot draw from the holster, instead begin from a ready position. Please report the following when you post your results in this thread: starting position (ready position, open holster, retention holster, or concealed) type of reload you performed (slidelock, in battery, magazine retention) total time for ten 3-shot draws, and number of shots missed if any total time for ten 1-R-2, and number of shots missed if any best and worst time for the draws (all 20, from both strings of fire) best and worst reload

Week 19 2 Shot SHO & WHO Draws Drill

Range: 7yd Target: 3x5 card Start position: holstered Rounds fired: 100 This week we are going to work on strong hand only and weak hand only draws. Continuing with the trend from last week, we are going to repeat similar techniques multiple times to improve skill. Draw and fire two shots to the 3x5 card strong hand only with no time limit. Repeat for a total of 25 repetitions. Do not use you weak hand to clear you cover garment. If you are not confident in your ability to hit a 3x5 card at 7 yards strong hand only, then reduce the distance as required. Repeat the drill weak hand only. If you do not have experience drawing with your weak hand, do not perform the weak hand portion of the drill from the holster. As an alternative, you may start from the ready position. If you are not confident in your ability to hit a 3x5 card at the distance you shot the strong hand string, you may further reduce the distance for the weak hand string. Please report the following when you post your results in this thread: starting position (ready position, open holster, retention holster, or concealed) number of hits strong hand only number of hits weak hand only

Week 20 SHO & WHO Speed Push Drill

Range: 5 or 7 yds Target: 8 inch circle Start position: ready position Rounds fired: 64 This week we are going to build on the SHO/WHO practice from last week with the addition of time pressure. Begin from the ready position at 7 yards. You may start at 5 yards if you are unsure of your ability to hit at 7. Record the time required to get two guaranteed hits on the eight inch circle strong hand only. This is now the par time for the strong hand portion of the drill. Using this par time, attempt to get as many hits as you can under the PAR. Repeat until you have fired 30 rounds (32 including the two rounds used to generate the PAR time) strong hand only. Repeat the entire process weak hand only. The primary purpose for this drill is to push SHO and WHO speed, so the goal is 90% hits. Week 21 Press Six Drill

Range: 3yd 7yd Target: six two inch circles Start position: holstered* Rounds fired: 62 Press Six is a multi-string drill that will help you improve both your press-out skills and your ability to hit low probability targets at speed. Range can be anywhere from three to seven yards depending on shooter skill level. The 6 strings of fire are: Top left dot. Draw and fire one shot, focusing on a proper press-out. No time limit. Repeat ten times. Top center dot. Draw and fire one shot, focusing on a proper press-out. 3 second PAR time. Repeat ten times. Top right dot. Draw and fire one shot, focusing on a proper press-out. 2 second PAR time. Repeat ten times. Lower left dot. Draw and fire two shots, focusing on a proper press-out and good sight tracking. No time limit. Repeat five times. Lower center dot. Draw and fire two shots, focusing on a proper press-out and good sight tracking. 3 second PAR time. Repeat five times. Lower right dot. Draw and fire three shots, focusing on a proper press-out and good sight tracking. 3 second PAR time. Repeat four times. Start at a distance where you can reliably get all of your hits on the slow strings (1 and 4), then push yourself to develop the speed necessary to make the PAR times. Please report the following when you post your results in this thread: starting position range hits on dot one hits on dot two under par hits on dot three under par hits on dot four hits on dot five under par hits on dot six under par * If you cannot draw from a holster, you may complete the drill from the ready position by subtracting .5 seconds from each par time.

Week 22 SHO FAST (or 25yd SHO bullseye practice) Drill

Range: 7yd Target: 3x5 card and 8" circle Start position: concealed or retention holster, arms relaxed at sides ("at sides" does not mean in front of your legs) Rounds fired: 60 This is just running the F.A.S.T. ten times using your strong hand only for the draw, reload, and all shots fired. Only run this week's drill if you have formal professional instruction in the proper way to draw and reload using only your strong hand and you are confident you can do so safely. There are a variety of things that can go wrong if you don't know what you're doing and some of those "wrongs" involve bullets entering your body. Please report the following when you post your results in this thread: holster used score for each run (includes penalties for misses) draw and reload for each run If you cannot perform this drill, the alternative DotW is as follows: Range: 5, 10, 15, 20, and 25yd Target: the Tom_Jones B16 replacement center Start position: any Rounds fired: 50 Fire ten rounds at each distance. Use a separate target for each distance to make scorekeeping easier. Shots that land off the paper score zero. Please report the following when you post your results in this thread: score for each distance

Week 23 WHO FAST (or 25yd WHO bullseye practice) Drill

Range: 7yd Target: 3x5 card and 8" circle Start position: concealed or retention holster, arms relaxed at sides ("at sides" does not mean in front of your legs) Rounds fired: 18-60 This is just running the F.A.S.T. multiple times using your weak hand only for the draw, reload, and all shots fired. Do it at least three times. If you can do ten runs, that would be ideal. Only run this week's drill if you have formal professional instruction in the proper way to draw and reload using only your weak hand and you are confident you can do so safely. There are a variety of things that can go wrong if you don't know what you're doing and some of those "wrongs" involve bullets entering your body. Please report the following when you post your results in this thread: holster used score for each run (includes penalties for misses) draw and reload for each run If you cannot perform this drill, the alternative DotW is as follows: Range: 5, 10, 15, 20, and 25yd Target: the Tom_Jones B16 replacement center Start position: any Rounds fired: 50 Fire ten rounds WHO at each distance. Use a separate target for each distance to make scorekeeping easier. Shots that land off the paper score zero. Please report the following when you post your results in this thread: score for each distance

Week 25 AMRAP Burst From Ready Drill

Range: 7yd Target: 8" circle Start position: ready position Rounds fired: varies AMRAP means As Many Rounds As Possible. Drills of this type break from the typical approach to speed shooting ("how fast can I do the drill?") and instead force the shooter to engage the target until it "disappears" ... in other words, until time runs out. We're going to do a series of these over the next few weeks, so this is just to get everyone's feet wet. Set your shot timer to a PAR of 2 seconds (or use a turning target system measured at 2 seconds of face time). On the buzzer, fire as many rounds into the 8" circle as you can in the allotted time. If using a timer, check to make sure not to count any shots that were fired late. Starting position will be any ready position of your choosing that does not involve the muzzle pointing at the target or target backer. You'll repeat the drill a total of five times. With each repetition, try to push yourself a little bit harder to make just one more hit. Please report the following when you post your results in this thread: Choice of ready position. Number of shots fired and number of hits for each rep.

Week 26 AMRAP 3x5 From Ready Drill

Range: 7yd Target: 3x5 card Start position: ready position Rounds fired: varies This is another AMRAP drill. "AMRAP" means As Many Rounds As Possible. Set your shot timer to a PAR of 2 seconds (or use a turning target system measured at 2 seconds of face time). On the buzzer, fire as many rounds into the 3x5 card as you can in the allotted time.

Week 27 AMRAP From The Draw Drill

Range: 7yd Target: 8" circle Start position: holstered Rounds fired: varies This is another AMRAP drill. "AMRAP" means As Many Rounds As Possible. First, establish a baseline. Time yourself drawing and firing three hits on an 8" circle at seven yards. For the AMRAP par time, round up to the next highest half second. So e.g. if you scored 2.15 seconds, your par for this drill will be 2.5 seconds. Next, using that par time, draw and hit the target as many times as you can in the allotted time. After each run, check the target and the timer to make sure you know how many actual hits you scored within the time limit. Starting position is holstered. Whether you use an open holster, retention holster, or concealed holster is up to you. Just be consistent and start the same way each time. If you cannot draw from a holster at your range, simply indicate what starting position you used. You'll repeat the drill a total of ten times. With each repetition, try to push yourself a little bit harder to make just one more hit. Please report the following when you post your results in this thread: Starting position (open, concealed, or retention) Number of shots fired and number of hits for each rep

Week 28 AMRAP With Reload Drill

Range: 7yd Target: 8" circle Start position: holstered Rounds fired: varies This is another AMRAP drill. "AMRAP" means As Many Rounds As Possible. First, establish a baseline. Time yourself to draw, fire one round, reload, and fire two more rounds (1-reload-2) all on an 8" circle at seven yards. For the AMRAP par time, round up to the next highest half second. So e.g. if you scored 3.01 seconds for your 1-reload2, your par for this drill will be 3.5 seconds. Next, using that par time, draw, reload, then hit the target as many times as you can in the allotted time. You may perform any type of reload you wish. Just remain consistent and use the same type of reload each time. For discussion's sake, please identify your reload as one of the following: slidelock / empty gun in battery / aka IPSC-style speed reload where the gun remains in fireable condition and live ammunition is dropped on the ground magazine retention / aka any type of "tactical" reload where the magazine or remaining ammunition is pocketed rather than dropped on the ground You'll repeat the drill a total of ten times. With each repetition, try to push yourself a little bit harder to make just one more hit. Please report the following when you post your results in this thread: Starting position (open, concealed, or retention) Type of reload performed Number of shots fired and number of hits for each rep

Week 29 AMRAP Torture Drill

Range: 3yd Target: 6 2" circles Start position: holstered Rounds fired: varies This is another AMRAP drill. "AMRAP" means As Many Rounds As Possible. First, establish a baseline. Time yourself drawing and hitting each of the top three circles once. For the AMRAP par time, add one second then round up to the next highest half second. So e.g. if it took you 2.3 seconds to hit three circles, you'd add one second (3.3) then round up to 3.5 seconds total. Next, using that par time, draw and hit as many of the circles as you can in the allotted time. Fire one round at each circle then transition to the next in order from 1 to 6. If you miss a dot, you can make it up (fire more rounds until you hit) before moving on to the next circle but you can only count one hit per dot no matter how many rounds you fired. If you hit number 6 and still have time left, take two-tenths off your PAR for remaining runs.

Week 30 The 4567 Drill

Range: 7yd Target: 6" circle Start position: varies, see below Rounds fired: 20 The 4567 was inspired by Gila Hayess 54 drill and the various iterations thereof. The drill is run four times, five rounds each, on a six inch circle, at seven yards. A shot timer is used to begin each string of fire. The four strings of fire are: 1. draw and fire 5 rounds from concealment, two-handed 2. draw and fire 5 rounds from concealment, strong hand only 3. from the ready position fire 5 rounds, weak hand only 4. draw and fire 5 rounds from concealment, two-handed (repeat of string 1) If you cannot draw from concealment, instead begin all four strings of fire from the ready position and add three seconds to your overall score (one second for each string in which you shot from the ready instead of from concealment). For any shot outside of the 6 circle, add 1 second to your time. Total the times (and penalties) for all four strings to determine your overall score: Basic score total time with penalties is 4+5+6+7 = 22 seconds Intermediate is 5+6+7 seconds = 18 seconds Advanced is 6+7 = 13 seconds Please report the following when you post your results in this thread: Starting position (concealed or ready) Time and hits for each string of fire. Total score (including penalties).

Week 31 iHack SHO & WHO Drill

Range: 5yd Target: three 2" circles Start position: ready Rounds fired: 36 The iHack is an indoor range friendly version of the famous Hackathorn 3-Second Headshot Standards. The targets are much closer together but also significantly smaller than the regular version of the drill. This week, we'll be adding another twist: shooting the drill SHO (Strong Hand Only) and WHO (Weak Hand Only). PAR time is set to six seconds for each string. There are three strings of fire. 1. Fire one (and only one) shot at each target, going from left to right 2. Fire one (and only one) shot at each target, going from right to left. 3. Fire one (and only one) shot at each target, beginning with the middle target and then finishing with the two outside targets in any order. Shots fired after the 6-second PAR time count as misses. In total, you will fire nine rounds (three shots in three seconds for each of the three strings of fire) for each run of the drill. A "passing" score is 7 out of 9. Start position is any ready position of your choosing so long as the muzzle is not pointed at the target. Shoot the drill a total of four times (36 shots): twice SHO then twice weak WHO. Please report the following when you post your results in this thread: hits for each of the four runs aggregate score

Week 32 Dot Torture Drill

Please report both your score and the distance to the target when you post your results in this thread.

Week 33 3x5 Cold Drill

Range: varies Target: 3x5 card Start position: varies (concealed preferred) Rounds fired: 2 We'll do something very simple this week. The first two shots you fire at the range should be to a 3x5 card, timed for score. That's it. Just do it once per day. The important part is that you shoot it cold, no warm up, no dry-fire, no sight pictures. Don't point the gun at the target or anything else to "get ready" for the drill. You score bonus points if you do it with your carry ammo without fiddling with your magazines first, either. Distance is up to you. Start position is up to you, though shooting it from concealment is preferred as usual. If you go to the range more than once this week, try this each time and record all your results. Please report the following when replying to this thread: Distance to target Start position (concealed, retention, open top holster, or ready position) Time Number of hits

Week 34 20 Hits (3x5) Drill

Range: 7 yards Target: 3x5 card Start position: concealed Rounds fired: varies Draw and fire two rounds to the 3x5. Record your time and the number of hits you got. Repeat until you've hit the target a total of twenty times, recording the time for each run. Keep running the drill (two shots at a time) until you've scored twenty total hits. This may take as few as ten runs or it could require many, many more depending on your accuracy. The total time of all the runs you needed to get twenty hits is your score. If you do it in ten tries, your score is your time for those ten. If you need twenty tries to get the hits, your score is the time for all twenty. Your time gets added whether you got 2, 1, or 0 hits for a particular try. Please report the following when responding to this thread: Start position (concealed, retention holster, open/range holster, ready position) Number of tries it took to get a total of 20 hits Total combined time

Week 35 3x5 In 5 Drill

Range: varies Target: 3x5 card Start position: concealed Rounds fired: varies Pick a distance you can successfully draw and fire 2 rounds into a horizontal 3x5 card in under 5 sec. On the buzzer, draw and fire two rounds to the 3x5 card. Record your time and the number of hits you got. If successful, add 1 yd to the distance from the target and repeat. Keep running the drill (two hits in under 5 sec) and adding distance after each successful completion until you either miss the target or exceed the time limit. Please report the following when responding to this thread: Start position (pistol, holster type, concealment) Start distance and time Last distance successfully engaged and time

Week 36 Surprise Reloads Drill

Range: 7 yards Target: 8" circle Start position: concealed Rounds fired: 75 This week we'll work on determining how much time is added to our reload when we don't plan for it at a specific point during a string of fire. First, establish a baseline. Draw and fire 1 round at the 8" circle, reload, and fire two more rounds at the 8" circle. Record the time for the reload (time between first and second shot). If you missed any of the three shots, repeat until you get a clean run. Next, randomly load a total of 24 rounds into five magazines (or 23 if you've got a round in your chamber already). Make sure there are at least two rounds in each magazine. Next, you'll work on the surprise reloads. On the buzzer you will draw and fire exactly three rounds. If at any point your gun runs dry, reload it and finish the three shots. If the pistol goes dry after the three rounds are fired, simply reload it and reholster without firing any additional shots. You should get eight reps of the 3-shot drill. Load your 5 mags up again randomly with 24 rounds and repeat the eight 3-shot reps again. Then do it all over a third time. You should get a total of 24 3-shot draws. The number of times you'll reload "on the clock" will vary depending on how your magazines are loaded. But you should get somewhere in the vicinity of 10 "surprise" reloads. Each time you reload within the 3-shot string (as opposed to after firing all three), record the time it took you to perform the reload. Find the average of time of those reloads. Note: you can cheat by purposely setting up your magazines to go empty at known times... in which case you might as well not do the drill. Please report the following when responding to this thread: Start position (concealed, retention holster, open/range holster, ready position) Time for the first "planned" reload Average time for the "unplanned" reloads Number of hits (out of 72) on the 8" circle

Week 37 The iHack Drill

Designed from the Hackathorn 3-Second Headshot Standards Range: 5yd Target: three 2" circles (.pdf target downloadable here) Start position: varies (see below) Rounds fired: 36 The iHack is an indoor range friendly version of the famous Hackathorn 3-Second Headshot Standards.

Week 38 FTS Drill

Range: 5 to 25 yds Target: 2x4 horizontal box placed 5-6 above a 5 circle. (When printed out on legal size paper, this TARGET works) Start position: concealed Rounds fired: 7 to 35 shots Start 5 yards from the target. On the buzzer, draw and fire five rounds to the circle, then 2 rounds to the rectangular credit card on top. Record the time and the number of hits obtained. Add 5 yds to the distance from the target and repeat the drill until either both head shots are missed or the drill is successfully completed at 25 yards. Please report the following when responding to this thread: Start position (pistol, holster type, concealment) For each distance, report the time to fire all seven shots and the number of hits to the circle and box.

Week 39 Defoor Test #1

Range: 25 & 7 yds Target: IPSC target with NRA B8 repair target Start position: concealed Rounds fired: 15 shots Here is a video with Kyle Defoor demonstrating the drill: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sJtczDAUul0. Drill is intended to be run COLD. To begin the drill, start at the target facing up range. On the buzzer, run back to the 25 yd line, turn, draw, and fire 6 shots into the NRA B8 bullseye repair target positioned at the bottom of an IPSC target A-zoneshots must be done within 30 seconds and at least 50 points are required to pass. Record the time and the number of hits obtained. (Note: If and only if you are unable to run on your range--start at the 25 yd line, at the buzzer draw and perform the drill as above without running, but the par time is reduced to 17 sec.) Move to the 7 yd line for the next 3 segments of the drill: 1. On the buzzer draw and fire one shot into the reduced IPSC A-zone above the NRA bull within 2 sec--if you miss or are over time, you fail. 2. On the buzzer draw and fire a 6 shot Bill Drill into the reduced A-zone above the NRA bull; to pass all hits must be made in 4.5 sec or less with no misses. 3. On the buzzer draw and fire 2 shots within 3.5 sec into the IPSC target head A-zone or credit card; it is a failure if you exceed the time limit or miss. Please report the following when responding to this thread: Start position (pistol, holster type, concealment) For each segment of the test, report the time to complete and score/number of hits.

Week 40 Defoor Test #2 & Leatham 3-Grasp Drill

Range: 25, 7, and 15 yds Target: IPSC target Start position: concealed Rounds fired: 6 + 6 + 6 = 18 shots Here is a video with Kyle Defoor demonstrating the Defoor Test #2: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GcoBH..._order&list=UL. Shooters start facing an IPSC target from 25 yds away. On the buzzer, draw and fire 2 rounds from concealment in under 4 sec. This is repeated two additional times for a total of 6 shots. Passing score is 25 using modified Vickers scoring on the IPSC target: A=5 pts, C=3 pts, D=0 pts. Next, move to the 7 yd line for the Leatham 3-grasp drill. Here is a BS video demonstrating the drill: http://video.google.com/videoplay?do...85068264&hl=en. On the buzzer draw and fire two shots into the A-zone using a 2 hand grip, immediately switch to strong hand only and fire two additional shots into the A-zone, then rapidly transition to weak hand only and fire the final two shots into the A-zone. A failure occurs if any shot is outside the A-zone or if time exceeds 5 sec. Finally, move to 15 yds. Repeat the 3-grasp drill, but this time fire ALL six shots into the 6" square head zone on the IPSC target. Keep the shots in the head box and the time under 10 sec. Please report the following when responding to this thread: Start position (pistol, holster type, concealment) For each segment of the test, report the time to complete and score/number of hits.

Week 42 3 Bills Drill

Range: 7 to 25 yds Target: 8 circle Start position: concealed Rounds fired: 18 shots 1. Start 7 yards from the target. On the buzzer, draw and fire six rounds to the 8" circle. Record the time and the number of hits obtained. 2. Move 15 yards away from the target and repeat the Bill drill. 3. Move to 25 yards and complete the drill again. Please report the following when responding to this thread: Start position (pistol, holster type, concealment) For each distance, report the time to fire all six shots and the number of hits.

Week 43 3by3 Drill

Range: 5 or 7 yards Target: 8" circle, 3x5 card, and 2" dot six 2" dots target 3x5, 2" dot, and 1" square target Start position: concealed Rounds fired: 9 This week's drill is about being able to change mental and visual gears appropriately for a given target. You will need a shot timer. 1. Draw, three rounds to the 8" circle. (time + 0.3 seconds per miss) 2. Draw, three rounds to the 3x5 card. (time + 1 second per miss) 3. Draw, three rounds to the 2" dot. (no time limit, 3 seconds per miss) If you can reliably hit a 2" dot at 7yd slow fire, use 7yd as your distance. If you can reliably hit a 2" dot at 5yd slow fire, use 5yd as your distance. If you cannot reliably hit a 2" dot at 5yd slow fire, use 5yd as your distance but replace the 2" dot with a second 3x5 card (no time limit, 3 seconds per miss). Please report the following when responding to this thread: Distance Start position (concealed, duty rig, open holster, ready) Times and hits for each string of fire Total score

Week 44 VTAC Reload Drill

Range: 10 yds Target: IPSC target A-zone (Note, if you need an IPSC A-zone, feel free to download this one and print on legal paper: http://pistol-forum.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=1018&d=1347302460) Start position: concealed Rounds fired: 3 + 3 + 3 = 9 shots Here is a video with Kyle Lamb demonstrating the Reload Drill: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2vc_-mlWtgs. Shooters start facing an IPSC target from 10 yds away. On the buzzer, draw and fire 3 rounds from concealment, reload, fire 3 additional shots, reload again, and fire a final 3 shots. Please report the following when responding to this thread: Start position (pistol, holster type, concealment) Report the time to complete and number of hits to the A-zone.

Week 45 F-PAR High% Draw Drill

Range: 7yd Target: 8" circle, IPSC A-zone, or 8.5x11 sheet of paper Start position: holstered Rounds fired: 20 You will need a shot timer for this drill and you will need to know how to operate the PAR function. This week's drill will push your draw speed using a Floating PAR (basically the same as the "diminishing PAR" from Week 8). Begin with a PAR time that you can confidently hit the target from the holster. Draw and fire one round at the target. If you score a hit, reduce the PAR time by 0.1 seconds. If you are not successful, increase the PAR by 0.1 seconds. Do not make incremental changes greater than 0.1 seconds even if your times are much farther from the PAR. Draw and fire again with the new PAR. Repeat the process (subtracting 0.1 seconds for each hit or adding 0.1 seconds for each miss) until you've fired a total of 20 rounds. Please report the following when you post your results in this thread: Target used Start position (open holster, concealed, retention holster) Starting PAR Lowest PAR with a hit Final PAR (20th draw)

Week 46 F-PAR Low% Draw Drill

Range: 7yd Target: 3x5 card Start position: holstered Rounds fired: 20 You will need a shot timer for this drill and you will need to know how to operate the PAR function. Please report the following when you post your results in this thread: Start position (open holster, concealed, retention holster) Starting PAR Lowest PAR with a hit Final PAR (20th draw)

Week 47 DB Modified LAPD SWAT Qual Drill

Range: 3 to 25 yds Target: 8 circle for body; 3x5 card for head. The PT FAST target is an easy option to use. Start position: concealed or duty retention holster Rounds fired: 36 or 50 25 yds: 2 body under 4 sec--3x (same as the Defoor Test #2 shot in DOW #40) 15 yds: 2 body under 3 sec--3x 10 yds: 2 body then 1 head under 3.5 sec--2x 7 yds: 2 body then 1 head under 3 sec--2x 5 yds: 2 body then 1 head under 2.5 sec--2x 3 yds: 2 body then 1 head under 2 sec--2x Bonus movement drill if you are not restricted by asinine nanny rules from moving on your range while shooting: 10 yards to 3 yards while on the move: 6 body then 1 head under 5 sec--2x (Note that this means shooting while actually moving, NOT taking a few shots in a static position before moving, then stopping to take some more shots midway, then making the final shot while stopped at 3 ydsany shots taken while not moving are considered a miss) This DOW is intended to be shot from the holster. If you must shoot from the ready, as a result of your crappy ranges stupid policies, reduce allowable time by 1 sec for each drill. Any round totally off the target is an automatic DQ (ie. 100% hits required to pass). Please report the following when responding to this thread: Start position (pistol, holster type, concealment) For each segment of the test, report the time to complete and number of hits.

Week 48 F-PAR High% Pair Drill

Range: 7yd Target: 8" circle, IPSC A-zone, or 8.5x11 sheet of paper Start position: holstered Rounds fired: 40 You will need a shot timer for this drill and you will need to know how to operate the PAR function. This is another Floating PAR. Begin with a PAR time that you can confidently draw and hit the target twice from the holster. Draw and fire two rounds at the target. If you score both hits, reduce the PAR time by 0.1 seconds. If miss one, increase the PAR by 0.1 seconds; if you miss both shots, increase the PAR by 0.2 seconds. Do not make incremental changes greater than this even if your times are much farther from the PAR. Draw and fire two again with the new PAR. Repeat the process (subtracting 0.1 seconds for 100% hits or adding 0.1 seconds per miss) until you've performed a total of 20 2-shot draws. Please report the following when you post your results in this thread: Target used Start position (open holster, concealed, retention holster) Starting PAR Lowest PAR with a hit Final PAR (20th draw)

Week 49 F-PAR High% Pair Drill

Range: 7yd Target: 3x5 card Start position: holstered Rounds fired: 40 You will need a shot timer for this drill and you will need to know how to operate the PAR function. Please report the following when you post your results in this thread: Start position (open holster, concealed, retention holster) Starting PAR Lowest PAR with a hit Final PAR (20th draw)

Week 50 Variations on the Test Drill

Range: 5, 10, 20 yards Target: NRA B8 repair target Start position: low ready or concealed for the folks who want a greater challenge Rounds fired: 30 shots Note, if you go over time or if any shots are outside the black, it is a failure. 1. Start with the classic "test" from 10 yards: On the buzzer fire 10 shots into an NRA B8 target within 10 seconds. 2. Move to the 5 yd line for the "half-test": On the buzzer fire 10 shots into an NRA B8 target within 5 seconds. 3. Move to the 20 yd line for the "double-test": On the buzzer fire 10 shots into an NRA B8 target within 20 seconds. Please report the following when responding to this thread: Start position (pistol, holster type, concealment) For each segment, report the time to complete, number of hits in the black/any misses, and actual score.

Week 51 Seeklander Reload Drill and Variation

Range: 10 yds Target: IPSC target A-zone and 3x5 card Start position: concealed Rounds fired: 2 + 2 + 2 = 6 shots, repeated once for a total of 12 shots Here is a video with OrigamiAK demonstrating the Reload Drill: http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature...&v=HH7DsBbiqN0. Shooters start facing an IPSC target from 10 yds away. On the buzzer, draw from concealment and fire 2 rounds, reload, fire 2 additional shots, reload again, transfer pistol to the weak hand, and fire a final 2 shots. (yes, the way it is written could allow someone to game this and not do a slide lock reload, but then again they are also likely the kind of person who cheats on their taxes as well...). Repeat the drill using a 3x5 card as your target. Please report the following when responding to this thread: Start position (pistol, holster type, concealment) Report the time to complete and number of hits to the A-zone and 3x5 card

Week 52 Week 52: 500 Point Aggregate Drill

Range: 25 yds Target: NRA B8 replacement center Start position: ready (although if you are a stud, try sections 2 & 3 from concealment) Rounds fired: 50 shots Drill is run in five sections: 1. 10 shots freestyle (2 hand) slow fire (ie. NO time limit) 2. 2 sets of 5 shots timed fire in 20 sec 3. 2 sets of 5 shots rapid fire in 10 sec 4. 10 shots strong hand slow fire 5. 10 shots weak hand slow fire. Mediocre score is above 400, good score is over 450, stellar score is above 475. Please report the following when responding to this thread: Start position (pistol, ammo type & any concealment/holster type) Report your score for each section of the test (ie. 98-4x) and if you were within the time limits on sections 2 & 3

Week 53 Typewriter With Reload Drill

Range: 5yd Target: 6 2" circles on the downloadable target from pistol-training.com Start position: holstered Rounds fired: 24 Load the gun with exactly eight rounds. You will also need two 8rd spare magazines. On the beep, draw and fire one round at each of the six 2" circles in order from #1 to #6 and then immediately repeat from #1 to #6 again for a total of twelve rounds fired. (reloading after the eighth shot, obviously) Record your time. DO NOT RELOAD THE GUN BETWEEN STRINGS. Then starting from the holster again, on the beep draw and fire one round at each of the six 2" circles in reverse order from #6 to #1 then immediately repeat from #6 to #1 again. (reloading after the fourth shot) Record your time. You must shoot the targets in proper order each time. Your score is the number of hits you made (out of 24) divided by your total time for the two strings of fire. So for example if you get 23 hits and shoot it in 25.55 seconds your score is: 23 25.55 = 0.80 This drill is not capacity-neutral; ex. if your pistol holds less than 6 rounds, you will need to reload more than once.

Week 54 F-PAR Failure Drill

Range: 7yd Target: A-zone (USPSA, 8" circle, or 8.5x11 sheet of paper) and 3x5 card Start position: holstered Rounds fired: 80 You will need a shot timer for this drill and you will need to know how to operate the PAR function. This is another Floating PAR. For this week, each draw starts with three shots to the body (large target) followed by one shot to the head (3x5). Begin with a PAR time that you can confidently get 100% hits. Draw and fire three to the body, one to the head. If you score all hits, reduce the PAR time by 0.1 seconds. If miss one, increase the PAR by 0.1 seconds; if you miss two or more shots, increase the PAR by 0.2 seconds. Do not make incremental changes greater than this even if your times are much farther from the PAR. Draw and fire two again with the new PAR. Repeat the process (subtracting 0.1 seconds for 100% hits or adding 0.1-0.2 seconds when there is a miss) until you've performed a total of 20 4-shot draws. Please report the following when you post your results in this thread: Body target used Start position (open holster, concealed, retention holster) Starting PAR Lowest PAR with 100% hit Final PAR (20th draw)

Week 55 10-8 Pistol Test Drill

Range: 7yd Target: IDPA target (ie. 6" square head box and 8" circular body--any hits outside these areas are a miss!) Start position: concealed holster with hands at sides or retention duty holster from interview position or long gun ready Rounds fired: 65 A shot timer with PAR function is required for this drill. One can read about and download an original copy of this drill here: http://10-8performance.blogspot.com/...stol-test.html. Here is a video of Jason Falla running the test: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2JlP_...eature=related and another with "Surf" shooting it: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=05P9ARD4cj4. Pick a par time (5, 6.5, or 8 sec) to use on all 12 strings of fire. String 1: On the buzzer, draw from the holster and fire 4 rds to the body then 1 round to the head, strong hand only String 2: On the buzzer, from a high two-hand ready, transfer the pistol to the support hand then fire 4 shots to the body and 1 shot to the head, WHO String 3: On the buzzer from a high ready with an EMPTY chamber; rack slide to chamber a round using the strong hand only, then fire 4 head shots all SHO String 4: On the buzzer from a high ready with an EMPTY chamber; rack slide to chamber a round using the weak hand only, then fire 4 body shots followed by 1 head shot all WHO String 5: Start with the pistol aimed at the target, slide locked open, empty mag, SHO; on the buzzer reload SHO and fire 1 shot to the body String 6: On the buzzer, from the holster, draw and fire 7 shots to the body and 1 to the head String 7: Start with 7 rounds loaded in the pistol; on the buzzer draw from the holster and fire 7 shots to the body, reload from slide lock and shoot 1 to the head String 8: On the buzzer draw from the holster and fire 8 shots to the head String 9: Start with 3 rounds loaded in the pistol; on the buzzer from a high ready, fire 2 shots to the body and 1 shot to the head, reload from slide lock and repeat the 3 shots String 10: Start with 2 rounds loaded in the pistol; on the buzzer draw from the holster and fire 1 shot to the body and 1 shot to the head, reload from slide lock and repeat the 2 shots String 11: Start with 4 rounds loaded in the pistol; on the buzzer from a high ready, fire 4 shots to the body, reload from slide lock and then fire 4 shots to the head String 12: Start with 1 round loaded in the pistol and 2 additional mags with 1 rd each; on the buzzer draw from the holster and fire 1 shot to the body, reload from slide lock and repeat twice Please report the following when you post your results in this thread: Start position (concealed or duty retention holster) PAR time selected Total number of hits within the PAR time According to Hilton, once you can break 58-60 points on a given par time, you are ready to move to the next par time. You are doing quite well if you can break 60 points on the 5 second par, shooting per the protocol.

Week 56 99 Drill
Range: 7-15yd Target: 3x5" or 4x6" card, see below for details Start position: concealed, hands relaxed at sides Rounds fired: 99 This was developed as a way to practice fundamentals (marksmanship at speed, draws, and reloads) with limited time and ammunition. If your range does not allow drawing from a holster, reduce the PAR for each string of fire by one second (so 1.5, 4.0, 2.5, and 4.0) or better yet, find a decent range that allows realistic training activities. If you want to run the DotW from an open or duty/retention holster, please first shoot it from concealment and then report both scores. Please report the following when you post your results in this thread: Start position (ready or concealed) target used score for each of the four strings of fire total score

Week 57 Dot Torture Drill

Dot 1 Draw and fire one string of 5 rounds for best group. One hole if possible, total 5 rounds. Dot 2 Draw and fire 1 shot, holster and repeat X4, total 5 rounds. Dots 3 & 4 Draw and fire 1 shot on #3, then 1 shot on #4, holster and repeat X3, total 8 rounds. Dot 5 Draw and fire string of 5 rounds, strong hand only, total 5 rounds. Dots 6 & 7 Draw and fire 2 shots on #6, then 2 on #7, holster, repeat X4, total 16 rounds. Dot 8 From ready or retention, fire five shots, weak hand only, total 5 rounds. Dots 9 & 10 Draw and fire 1 shot on #9, reload, fire 1 shot on #10, holster and repeat X3, total 6 rounds. Note: if you are using the Q-PT target, the strings work out slightly different: Dot A Draw and fire one string of 5 rounds for best group. One hole if possible, total 5 rounds. Dot A (again) Draw and fire 1 shot, holster and repeat X4, total 5 rounds. Dots 1 & 2 Draw and fire 1 shot on #1, then 1 shot on #2, holster and repeat X3, total 8 rounds. Dot 3 Draw and fire string of 5 rounds, strong hand only, total 5 rounds. Dots 4 & 5 Draw and fire 2 shots on #4, then 2 on #5, holster, repeat X4, total 16 rounds. Dot 6 From ready or retention, fire five shots, weak hand only, total 5 rounds. Dot B Draw and fire 1 shot, reload, fire 1 more shot, holster, and repeat X3, total 6 rounds. Please report both your score and the distance to the target when you post your results in this thread.

Week 58 The 4567 Drill

Range: 7yd Target: 6" circle (download pdf here) Start position: varies, see below Rounds fired: 20 The 4567 was inspired by Gila Hayess 54 drill and the various iterations thereof. The drill is run four times, five rounds each, on a six inch circle, at seven yards. A shot timer is used to begin each string of fire. The four strings of fire are: 1. draw and fire 5 rounds from concealment, two-handed 2. draw and fire 5 rounds from concealment, strong hand only 3. from the ready position fire 5 rounds, weak hand only 4. draw and fire 5 rounds from concealment, two-handed (repeat of string 1) For any shot outside of the 6 circle, add 1 second to your time. Total the times (and penalties) for all four strings to determine your overall score: Basic score total time with penalties is 4+5+6+7 = 22 seconds Intermediate is 5+6+7 seconds = 18 seconds Advanced is 6+7 = 13 seconds This drill is also compatible with the Q-PT target using the inner (white outline) center of mass circle.

Week 59 FAST Drill

Range: 7yd Target: 8" circle and 3x5 card (see here for a downloadable target; this target [i]must be printed on an 8.5x14 "legal" sheet of paper) Start position: concealed, hands relaxed at sides (see below for alternatives) Rounds fired: 18 Pistol begins with exactly two rounds in the gun. Draw should be from underneath legitimate concealment (see below for alternatives). Arms must be relaxed with hands at your sides (not on the gun). - On the buzzer, draw and fire two rounds at the 3x5 card. - Reload from slidelock/empty gun. - Fire four rounds to the 8" circle. Score is modified as follows based on carry method: - Concealed: no penalty - Retention holster with closed (snap or velcro) mag pouches: 0.5 second bonus (subtraction) per 6-shot run - Retention holster with open top mag mag pouches: no penalty or bonus - ALS, SERPA (although these suck so badly, you should really get another holster), or Thumb Drive (or similar) holster without concealment: 0.5 second penalty (addition) per 6-shot run - Open top holster without concealment: 3 second penalty (addition) per 6-shot run If your useless range does not allow drawing from a holster, begin with the gun on a table with no round in the chamber (two in the magazine).

Week 60 Slow Fire Marksmanship (aka The 300 Point Aggregate) Drill
Range: 25yd Target: B8 replacement center Start position: any Rounds fired: 30 Using the provided B8 replacement center, fire a ten-shot group at 25yd with no time limit and your normal 2-handed grip. Do not use a standard B8 target for this drill, as it will give you more scoring area than the repair center provides. Then repeat on a second target but shooting strong hand only. Then repeat on a third target weak hand only. Please report the following when you post your results in this thread: score for each string of fire total score

Week 61 "MISS NOW" (Mod1) Drill

Range: 7, 10, and 15 yards Target: 8" Circle (FAST, 10-8/EAG, TRICON, Paper Plate) Start position: Holstered, IAW your personal SOP Rounds fired: 48 Par Time: 10.00, 11.00, and 12.00 seconds On demand sustained fire marksmanship, sight tracking, recoil management, weapon/holster manipulation, reloads. Drill is shot cold, no warm up or "practice" runs. Only drills shot cold (first string of fire of the day) count for scoring purposes. Start with 2 magazines of 8 rounds each, facing the 8" circle target, 7 yards away. Place the second magazine in mag pouch per your personal SOP. Load and make ready your pistol, and place it in the holster in accordance with your personal SOP/carry method. On the start signal, draw and fire eight rounds into the target. At slide lock (or other indication you are empty), reload with the second magazine of eight, and engage target with all remaining rounds. ALL 16 rounds must be COMPLETELY INSIDE the target area. "On the line" does not count. All rounds are either "All In", or it is a miss. Par time is 10.00 seconds, par score is zero misses. Replace/Repair target and repeat at 10 yards. Par time is 11.00 seconds. Replace/Repair target and repeat at 15 yards. Par time is 12.00 seconds. Each yard line is its own, stand alone drill. There is no aggregate/total score. Please report the following when you post your results in this thread: Time for each string of fire # of misses (if any) Handgun type/caliber

Week 62 El Presidente Drill

Range: 10 yds Target: IPSC A-Zones or 8" circles (short bus version will use 3x5 cards) Start position: concealed Rounds fired: 12 Here is a link to the USPSA description of the drill: www.uspsa.org/classifiers/99-11.pdf. Set three targets at the 10 yd line. Space them 1 yd apart, each approximately at chest height. Note--if you shoot at a pansy range that will not let you set multiple targets, you may alternatively use three 3x5 cards oriented vertically and spread horizontally as far apart as possible on your target holder, as shown below:

Face away from the targets with the hands held above the shoulders. On the start signal, turn and fire two rounds at each of the targets, perform a reload, and re-engage the each of the three targets with two rounds. For purposes of this drill, any hits to the C-zone will add 2 sec to to your time; any hits to the D-zone or a full miss adds 10 sec to your time (there is no C-zone on a 3x5 card, so it is either a hit or a miss with the short bus version of the drill...). Here is a link to Robert Vogel running the drill in 4.61 sec, but he gets a C, bumping his score to 6.61 sec: http://s459.beta.photobucket.com/use...e7fa2.mp4.html. Please report the following when you post your results in this thread: Start position (pistol, holster type, concealment). Target used. Total time to complete the drill, number of hits to the A-zone, adjusted score with any penalties. If you need an IPSC A-zone, feel free to download this one and print on legal paper (8.5x14): http://pistolforum.com/attachment.p...8&d=1347302460. You can also use the 8" circle on the FAST target, also printed on legal paper (8.5x14).

Week 63 Alternating Targets Drill

Range: 10 yds Target: IPSC A-Zones or 8" circles (short bus version will use 3x5 cards); note that this is an ideal drill for using steel targets Start position: concealed Rounds fired: As many as you can in 7 seconds Set two targets at the 10 yd line. Space them 1 yd apart, each approximately at chest height. Note--if you shoot at a silly range that will not let you set multiple targets, you may alternatively use two 3x5 cards oriented vertically and spread horizontally as far apart as possible on the target holder. Face away from the targets with the hands held above the shoulders. On the start signal, turn and fire single rounds at each of the targets, and continue alternating shots between the two targets for 7 seconds (ie. one shot to target A, then one shot to target B, another shot to target A, followed by a shot to target B, then back to target A, etc...). Please report the following when you post your results in this thread: Start position (pistol, holster type, concealment). Target used. Total number of shots fired in 7 sec and number of hits to the A-zone. If you need an IPSC A-zone, feel free to download this one and print on legal paper (8.5x14): http://pistolforum.com/attachment.p...8&d=1347302460. You can also use the 8" circle on the FAST target, also printed on legal paper (8.5x14).

Week 64 Cold F.A.S.T. Drill

Range: 7yd Target: 8" circle and 3x5 card (F.A.S.T target, printed on an 8.5x14 "legal" sheet of paper) Start position: concealed, hands relaxed at sides (see below for alternatives) Rounds fired: 18 You must complete this drill before any other practice or other shooting that day. In other words, these must be the first eighteen rounds you fire on the day you record your results. Please report the following when you post your results in this thread: starting position (concealed, duty, open holster, or tabled) make & model of gun type of holster (if applicable) time and hits for string 1 time and hits for string 2 time and hits for string 3 aggregate score

Week 65 Cold Shot Challenge Drill

Range: varies Target: 3x5 card Start position: from concealment or a duty/retention holster Rounds fired: 1 This is the perfect drill for folks who are suffering from the ammo drought. You choose the distance at which to shoot the target, a 3x5 card. You choose the PAR time you'll give yourself to draw from concealment (or a retention holster) and score the hit in one shot. If your range does not allow you to draw from a holster, instead start the drill from the ready position without a round in the chamber (condition 3). This needs to be the very first shot you fire that day. You step onto the range, set up the shot, and do it. You only get to fire one shot and you only get one chance. Either you hit, or you miss. Part of the challenge is setting a distance & PAR that are challenging but still achievable when you are completely cold. Please report the following when you post your results in this thread: Start position (concealed, duty, or condition 3). Range selected. PAR time selected. Was it a hit or a miss? Make & model of gun and holster.

Week 66 Cold AMRAP Drill

Range: 7yd Target: 8" circle, IPSC A-zone, or 8.5x11 sheet of paper Start position: from concealment or a duty/retention holster Rounds fired: varies Another low round count drill for those struggling to keep their ammo supplies intact. Set up your target at seven yards. You will draw from either concealment or a duty/retention holster. If your range does not allow you to draw from a holster, begin from the ready position (gun in whatever condition you normally carry it). As with last week this drill must be performed before any other shooting that day. These must literally be the very first rounds you fire. The drill will involve setting a PAR time based on your normal skill level drawing to the same target at 7yd: If your 1-shot draw time is usually 1.5s or less, set a PAR of two seconds. If your 1-shot draw time is usually > 1.5s and < 2.5s, set a PAR of three seconds. If your 1-shot draw time is usually more than 2.5s or you do not know what your draw time usually is, set a PAR of four seconds. Set up the target, set your PAR, and on the beep you will draw and get as many hits as possible within the PAR time. Any shots fired after the PAR runs out will not count whether they were hits or misses. Record both the total number of rounds you fired and the number of hits you scored within the PAR time. Please report the following when you post your results in this thread: Start position (concealed, duty, or ready). PAR time selected. Number of shots fired. Number of hits scored. Make & model of gun and holster.

Week 67 26662 Drill

Range: 3 - 7yd Target: one 6" circle and two 2" circles (download a pdf version of the target) Start position: from concealment or a duty/retention holster Rounds fired: 25 The 26662 drill is a changing gears drill that challenges you to switch between low% and high% targets at speed. Choose a distance of 3, 5, or 7 yards depending on your skill level. You will shoot this drill five times. Using a shot timer, record your time for each run. The drill is shot as follows: - Draw and fire one shot to one of the 2" dots. - Transition to the 6" dot and fire three rounds at it. - Transition to the second 2" dot and fire one round at it. So you fire 2", 6" 6" 6", 2" (thus the name of the drill... duh). Do not take extra makeup shots. Be sure you have at least five rounds loaded in your pistol before drawing each time; if you mismanage your ammunition and need to reload in the middle of the drill it still counts. At the end of five runs you should have five hits in each of the two 2" dots and fifteen hits in the 6" dot. If your range does not allow you to draw from a holster, begin the drill from your preferred ready position. Please report the following when you post your results in this thread: Start position (concealed, duty, or ready). Distance. Total time for all five runs. Total number of hits on each of the 2" dots (maximum 5 each). Total number of hits on the 6" dot (15 maximum). Make & model of gun and holster.

Week 68 3-Two-1 Drill

Range: 3 - 7yd Target: 3x5, 2" dot, 1" square (download a pdf version of the target) Start position: from concealment or a duty/retention holster Rounds fired: 30 This is another changing gears drill. You'll transition between different size targets trying to get good hits at an appropriate speed for each one. Like last week, choose to shoot this at 3, 5, or 7 yards depending on your confidence and skill level. Obviously you should pick a distance at which you can reliably hit a 1" square on demand. You will shoot this drill five times. Using a shot timer, record your time for each run. The drill is shot as follows: 1. Draw and fire three shots to the 3x5. (3) 2. Transition to the 2" dot and fire two rounds at it. (Two) 3. Transition to the 1" square and fire one round at it. (1) Do not take extra makeup shots. Be sure you have at least six rounds loaded in your pistol before drawing each time; if you mismanage your ammunition and need to reload in the middle of the drill it still counts. At the end of five runs you should have fifteen hits in the 3x5, ten hits in the 2", and five hits in the 1" square. If your range does not allow you to draw from a holster, begin the drill from your preferred ready position. Please report the following when you post your results in this thread: Start position (concealed, duty, or ready). Distance to the target. Total time for all five runs. Total number of hits on each target zone (3x5, 2", 1"). Make & model of gun and holster.

Week 69 Triple Nickel (or iHack) Drill

If your range allows you to shoot multiple targets from the holster, shoot Triple Nickel. If not, shoot the iHack. Both drills are detailed below: Triple Nickel designed by the Federal Air Marshal firearms training unit Range: 5yd Target: see below Start position: from concealment or a duty/retention holster Rounds fired: 10 Targets can be (a) the 4/5 zone of a Transtar II, (b) the bottle of a QIT target, (c) the A/B/C zones of a USPSA "Metric" target, or (d) the -0 and -1 zones of an IDPA target. Any bullet strike completely within the designated area counts as a hit; any strike that touches the line or falls outside the designated area counts as a miss. There must be at least 18" between each target. Shooter begins facing the target, hands at sides, gun in holster loaded with no more than nine rounds (shooter chooses to load anywhere between one and nine rounds). On the buzzer, draw and fire exactly two shots at each of the five targets. Shooter will need to perform a reload to accomplish this. Please report the following when you post your results in this thread: Start position (concealed or duty). Time. Number of hits. Make & model of gun and holster. ---------- ---------- ---------- ---------- ---------- ---------iHack designed from the Hackathorn 3-Second Headshot Standards Range: 5yd Target: three 2" circles (.pdf target downloadable here) Start position: varies (see below) Rounds fired: 9 The iHack is an indoor range friendly version of the famous Hackathorn 3-Second Headshot Standards. Please report the following when you post your results in this thread: starting position (ready position, open holster, retention holster, or concealed) total number of hits within the PAR time

Week 70 Frank Garcia Dot Drill

Range: 7yd Target: six 2" dots (download a pdf version of the target) Start position: from the holster Rounds fired: 36 This drill combines a high degree of marksmanship with enough speed to put pressure on most shooters. Set your shot timer for a 5 second PAR time. On the buzzer, draw and fire six shots at the first 2" dot on the target. Record the number of hits you achieved within the PAR time. Shots fired after the 5s PAR count as misses. Repeat the drill with the same 5s PAR on each of the remaining dots. You will fire a total of 36 rounds with six separate start signals. Make sure you have at least six rounds loaded in your gun before starting each dot. If your range does not allow you to draw from a holster, begin the drill from your preferred ready position. Please report the following when you post your results in this thread: Start position (concealed, duty, range holster, or ready position). Total number of hits (out of 36 possible). Make & model of gun and holster.

Week 71 99 Drill
Range: 7-15yd Target: 3x5" or 4x6" card, see below for details Start position: holstered, hands relaxed at sides, see below for details Rounds fired: 99 This drill was developed as a way to practice fundamentals (marksmanship at speed, draws, and reloads) with limited time and ammunition. The PAR times are based on running the drill from concealment or a legitimate retention holster. If you want to use an open top style range/competition holster, deduct one half second from the PAR for each string draw string and one second for the draw & reload string (2.0, 4.0, 3.0, and 4.5). If your range does not allow drawing from a holster, reduce the PAR for each string of fire by one second (so 1.5, 4.0, 2.5, and 4.0) and shoot it from a ready position. Please report the following when you post your results in this thread: Start position (concealed, retention holster, competition holster, or ready position) target used (3x5 or 4x6) score for each of the four strings of fire total score

Week 72 3x5 Speed Push Drill

There are two strings of fire. String 1: During the first string, your goal is to get 100% hits.
