PI Manual Logger

Features
Barcodes and RFID: Use barcodes and RFID to guide data collection and prompt you for data entry. Barcodes and RFID can also be collected as data values. Data Collection Grouping: Data collection items can be arranged in groups or hierarchies to reflect your facility, work areas, equipment, building layout, etc. Easy Configuration: PI ML data collection definitions can be imported or exported as XML files which makes creating and editing them easier. Task Instructions: While collecting data you can display instructions as text or use hyperlinks to show standard operating procedures (SOP), equipment images, web pages, etc. Data Validation During Data Entry: PI ML performs automatic data validation for HiHi, High, Low, LoLo and Delta limit checks. When limit violations occur, customizable alert messages are displayed prompting you for optional comments. Submit and Approve Workflow: Manually entered data can be submitted for review and approval prior to being uploaded to the PI System. Collect Multiple Values for Each Item: With PI ML, more than one value can be collected for an item, for example: as found/as left entries, instrument calibration readings, etc.

Business Challenge
Manually collected data such as operator rounds, plant surveillance and field inspections contain valuable process and equipment information. Often, these data are collected using paper-based methods which can be difficult to use and manage. PI Manual Logger (PI ML) provides a secure and scalable solution to record such data using PCs and hand held devices. Manually entered data can then be validated, uploaded to the PI Server and fully leveraged by the PI System just like any other PI System data.

Overview
PI ML has many features to support manual input data collection, including: Flexible Scheduling: Data collection schedules such as hourly, daily, weekly, monthly and yearly can be configured so you can collect data when needed, for example collect Chiller Compressor log every Tuesday at 10:00 a.m. Configurable Templates: Text entries such as failure codes, comments and pick-lists can be pre-configured to make data entry faster and easier. Lab Results: Lab values can be time-stamped with the time when the sample was collected. Multi-user Support: A single data entry task can be accessed by different users from separate networked PCs to allow lab results entry or to allow data review by supervisors who are not located near the data collection site. Support for Future Data: With PI ML, future data collected as part of normal data entry is automatically queued for sending to the PI System. Operator Presence Confirmation: Barcode scans can be verified and logged prior to data entry in the field. This feature is available on select hardware.

Features Continued
Conditional Data Entry: Use conditional expressions to specify when an item is due for collection. For example, if the temperature is below freezing then record the valve position. Ad Hoc Data Entry: Using PI MLs ad hoc mode, field operators can collect any data at any time, regardless of whether or not it is due for collection. Security: Digital ink signatures can be associated with each PI ML value or comment. Audit Trail: PI ML can automatically log all important changes to data collection configurations and data entries. Disconnected Data Collection: Using PCs and mobile devices, manual data can be collected while disconnected from the PI Server and later sent to the PI Server via a wired connection or wirelessly using the built-in PI ML web services. Multiple Hardware Options: PI ML can be used with PCs, tablet devices and handheld devices, including those with barcode scanners and RFID readers.

Benefits
PI ML can provide many benefits to your organization, including: Greater Field Workforce Productivity: PI ML helps you save valuable time during data collection with features like barcode scan navigation and justin-time task instructions. A More Complete Operational Picture: With the PI System, manually collected data is seamlessly available alongside automatically collected data (i.e. instrument data collected via PI System interfaces) providing you with a complete operational picture. Integrated Analysis: Field collected equipment and process/lab data can be easily integrated with enterprise systems such as SAP and IBM Maximo. Lower Cost Data Collection: PI ML provides an inexpensive way to collect lab data for the PI System. It can also be used to gather data for performance comparisons such as data from pilot runs, new or overhauled equipment start-ups, etc. This allows you to compare routine production runs to benchmarked performance.

PI ML data, shown above in a browser using PI WebParts, includes 7-day collection history and a trend. The readings and the trend dynamically update based on the item selected in the hierarchy.
