Admission Notice-2012 Ph.D Admission-2012


The university invites application (to be downloaded from university website www.rbu.ac.in) for admission to Ph.D Programmes (2011-12) under the Faculties of Arts, Fine Arts and Visual Arts in the following subjects (number of seats available is mentioned against subject) Faculty of Arts Bengali (11), Tagore Studies (03)-14, English-14, Sanskrit (09), Vedic Studies (03)-12, Philosophy-10; Political Science-06, History-10, Education-05, Economics-04, Library and Information Science-06 Faculty of Fine Arts Drama-21, Dance-12, Rabindra Sangeet-06, Vocal Music-10, Instrumental Music and Percussion15; Musicology-03 Faculty of Visual Arts Painting-03, Graphics (Printmaking)-02, Sculpture-02, History of Art-02 Candidates already in employment should apply through proper channel Eligibility Criteria: Candidates having Masters degree with 55% marks (50% for SC/ST) or its equivalent grade from any UGC recognized University in India or an equivalent degree of a recognized foreign University preceded by graduation with Honours or its equivalent degree in the concerned or allied subject are eligible to apply for admission to the Ph.D Programme of study in his/her disciplinary subject of study or in a subject of allied discipline or in an inter disciplinary subject Admission Procedure: The candidates will have to appear for a written entrance test, and if qualified, have to appear for an interview to be conducted by the Department or School or Centre concerned However, the students who have qualified/cleared in the M.Phil, NET/SET/GATE/UGC (JRF)/CSIR (JRF) or Teacher Fellowship Holder will be exempted from appearing in the written entrance test to be conducted by the University Such candidates will have to appear in the interview Written Entrance Test: Written entrance test and interview will be taken for selection of eligible candidates for admission to Ph.D Programmes Written entrance test will be of 100 marks Total duration of the test will be 3 (three hours) Written entrance test will have two halves of 50 marks each First half will be common to all candidates belonging to Faculty of Arts and Visual Arts Similarly candidates belonging to the Faculty of Fine Arts will have first half common for all candidates This half will include Comprehension Test, Qualitative/Quantitative/Reasoning Aptitude etc This half will be known as Common Research Aptitude Test Second half will be subject oriented It will include Objective Type Questions (10 marks), Short Answer Type Questions (20 marks) and Essay writing on given topic or areas of interest of the candidate etc (within 300 words) (20 marks) In order to qualify for the Interview, each candidate will be required to score at least 50% (45% for SC/ST candidates) marks (marks of 1st half and 2nd half taken together) out of 100 marks

Interview: Each and every qualified candidate in written entrance test and the candidates who have qualified/cleared in the M.Phil, NET/SET/GATE/UGC (JRF)/CSIR (JRF) or Teacher Fellowship Holder will be required to appear in Interview of 50 marks The Interview will be conducted by the Department concerned Merit list of the candidates will be prepared only on the basis of the marks obtained in Interview How to Apply: For downloading the application form, it will be mandatory for the candidates to make proper entry of the requisite information in prescribed spaces provided in the website It is to be noted that the information entered in the prescribed places in the website will reflect on the downloaded application form and the same information will be saved as database for further processing of the form for admission The candidates are advised to make correct entry only No fictitious information should be entered No application for change of information already reflected on the downloaded form will be entertained Please follow the instructions and fill the complete form Before filling, keep all the information required in this form ready Incomplete form cannot be downloaded Downloaded form should be signed by the candidate and his/her parent/guardian at the given spaces in the form Details of the demand draft are mandatory for downloading the form So draft must be prepared before filling this form It is mandatory to attach the demand draft/pay order for Rs 100/- drawn in favour of Rabindra Bharati University, payable at Kolkata with the downloaded form The duly filled in downloaded form along with copies of all mark sheets, certificates and other relevant documents and demand draft, has to be submitted in the Office of the Secretary, Faculty Councils at 56A, BT Road, Kolkata-700050, in person (not by post) within 4.00 p.m. 07th March, 2012 positively Details in respect of distribution of admit cards, date of common entrance test (written), publication of result of the common entrance test including the list of candidates selected for viva-voce, date of viva-voce etc will be notified from time to time Reservation of seats for SC/ST/PH candidates will be as per Govt rules

Forms will be available in the website 07th March, 2012 to 21st March, 2012 (upto 4.00 p.m.) Last date of submission 22nd March, 2012 (within 4.00 p.m.) Publication of provisional eligibility list of candidates selected for written entrance test 05th April, 2012 (after 3.00 p.m.)
