If you were a guide what most important things would you tell tourists about Chisinau, the Capital of Moldova? If I were a guide the first tour I will make at the Monument to the Moldovan gospodar Stephen the Great. By the main entrance to Stephen the Great Park there is a bronze monument to the Moldovan gospodar. It was projected by well-known sculptor Alexander Plamadeala. The monument was erected in 1928. The second place is St. Tyron Cathedral (ciuflea Church). The largest Romanian Orthodox church in Chisinau. The next place is Botanical Gardens. On the 17-hectare are sit orchards, study centers, gardens and greenhouses. The greenhouses have more than 2400 tropical and subtropical plants, many of which are for sale. The Botanical Gardens were founded in 1951. Access to the Botanical Gardens to get through by appointment only. The National Museum of Ethnography and Natural History. Highlights include a topographical map of Moldova, the mammoth skeleton, and a fine collection of traditional tools, costumes and rugs. The museum was built in 1905 and is an impressive construction both in and out side. Test 2.What important things would you tell about foreigners about Moldova? The RM occupies a relatively small territory between rivers Prut and Nistru bordering two states Romania and the Ukraine. The RM is one of the smallest states in Europe by its population. As for it ethnical structure we can say that the RM is a multinational state where live: Romanians, Ukrainians, Russians, and others like Gagauzian, Bulgarians, and Gypsies. I want to mention also wine making industry. The main sectors are: viticulture, fruit and vegetables growing. MD is an important producer of wines representing about 3% of the world production. MD produces wines of high quality; Cricova is one of the famous wine producers. It production is permanently prized at the international contests. Aroma is the cognacs factory in Chisinau that offers a good section of, divinuri/divinesname local mark for cognacs. MD is specialized mainly in cultivation of vegetables and fruit and their preservation. Bucuria is the candy factory known already abroad. April 16 1995 - First multi-party elections held for local, self-governing bodies. July 13 1995 Moldova admitted to the Council for Europe. During the 10 years of independence, local administrative and parliamentary elections
took place three times and presidential elections took place twice; the new Constitution of Republic of Moldova based on new democratic and European standards was adopted; the private sector in economy is continuously developing; the privatization of industrial units takes place; an "explosion" of mass-media resulted and now the Republic of Moldova has numerous independent publications, private TV channels and Radio programmes, press agencies and private publishing houses. Republic of Moldova began a real democratic life. At present it maintains diplomatic relations with 1 12 countries of the world; it is a member of the United Nations; associate member of the Council of Europe and active participant (economically) of the Independent States Community, of OSCE; co-operates with NATO in the Program "Partnership for Peace"; participates at activities of many international organizations. During this transition period the Republic of Moldova housed many congresses, seminars, symposia, political, economic, scientific and cultural meetings at European and international level in order to implement the democratic principles and market economy in the life of the young sovereign state. Test 4. What are the main sources for the global environment? Why? In present more than 5, 3 billion people are using the earths natural sources. Half of which are undernourished. A total of 4 million deaths occur each year from starvation. Mankind has finally realized the threat of an increasing population and has faced the fact that something must be done. The foodsupply increase lags considerably behind the immense growth of population. Besides conditions for life grow steadily worse due to numerous facets of environmental pollution. In every corner of the world people are cutting forests, in last 80 years 3, 7 millions forests from 9 millions hectare. Extracting minerals and energy supplies, the top soil is eroding every year with 4 millions hectare. The air is polluting yearly with 132 millions of CO2 and SO2. Annual are evacuating in rivers and lakes more than 6 millions of polluting substance. Creating hazardous waste, and disrupting natural areas at a rate unprecedented in the history of life on earth. Oil is the single greatest pollutant on earth when oil products enter the air in tiny drops they combine with other pollutants to produce smog, now infamous from Los Angeles to Milan. The long-term effects of oil pollution are only now beginning to be studied in depth. Industrial enterprises emit tons of harmful substances. These emissions have disastrous consequences for our planet. They are the main reason for the greenhouse effect and acid rains. People are beginning to realize that environment problems are not somebody else's. They join and support various international organization and green parties. If governments wake up to what is happeningperhaps we'll be able to avoid the disaster that threatens the natural world and all of us with it. Testul 5 sau 8.When you visit USA what cities, states would you like to go? First of all Id like to visit Washington DC, the capital of the United States of America, is the city of symbols. Washington DC is one of the most beautiful and unusual cities in the United States. It has little industry,
and only one million people. One reason Washington looks different from other cities is that no building in the city may be more than 40 meters tall. There are no skyscrapers, because they would hide the citys many monuments from view. Then San Francisco who is known as Americas most loved city. The mornings are often foggy and the afternoons bright, cool, and sunny. I want to see very much the Golden Gate Bridge which is one of Americas most famous landmarks. San Francisco has a breathtaking beauty. There are beautiful vistas to be seen from its high hills and the beautiful rocky cost. There are quaint harbors, water fonts, docks and majestic sailboats to be seen everywhere. I want to see Chicago because Im a fan of Art, Architecture and I like just walking and looking. Chicago is a movable feast. They invented the skyscraper there, most of the innovations modern architecture, the iron skeleton, horizontally elongated windows and people in glass houses. When the dark comes the lights goes down and the city lights up. With carriage rides and elegant restaurants, small cafes ethnic food from just about everywhere. Los Angles/Hollywood is located toward the south of California. Los Angles is known for its nightlife and its beaches. Most people who visit Los Angles also visit Hollywood. A visit to Hollywood would give you the greatest chance to see your favorite movie stars and musicians. Seattle is incredibly green which is why it is often referred to as the Emerald City. Some of the cities attractions are the Space Needle (a 900-foot observation deck/restaurant overlooking the city/ocean/mountains), the many islands accessible by boat, the fresh seafood, and the small town feel the city offers. The country lies wholly in the temperate zone. Hence its mean annual temperatures are intermediate between those of the one hand and those of the torrid zone on other. But I would enjoy most the climate of Moldova because the

He had met a rich young widow named Martha Custis, married her and settled down. For the next 15 years Washington spent most of his time at his farm called Mount Vernon, he was wealthy tobacco planter. He had no children of his own, but he loved the little girl and boy who were Marthas children by her first husband. End the summer of 1787 from the different states met in Philadelphia to draw up plans for a new government. When I hear this question I suddenly think that I would like to be educated in an American school, but then I suddenly change my mind because the school education is almost the same as ours. Children begin to go to grammar school at the age of 6, which gives them basic knowledge: reading, writing, spelling, arithmetic. They may study there 8 years and then pass to high school. The education in high school is free of charge and some states provide free books and free transportation this is the small difference. The time of study in high school is 4 years. After that pupils, who called students, may go to college. Education is the same for boys and girls. They learn five days a week. The school year begins in September to June and they have 3 months vacation. Thats why Id like to be educated in another country, where school education is shorter than ours, but the school year is longer. Because of this we lose more years of our life. Testul 14 sau 27.If you offered the possibility to study in Great Britain what institutions of higher education would you choose? Why?
Of course I would choose Oxford University because the name of Oxford University is known to everybody who is at least slightly familiar with the world of academia. Oxford is a unique and historic institution. As the oldest English-speaking University in the world, it lays chaim to 8 centuries of continuous existence. Oxford University is comprised of 39 self-governing colleges and six Permanent Private Halls which are independent and self-financing bodies responsible for under graduate as well as graduate teaching. The social life of an Oxford student is very rich and diverse. Students fellowship is what makes the Oxford experience truly unforgettable. Oxford admits the brightest students from all aver the world. Studying at Oxford is very draining it consumes most the time practically in the library. MASS MEDIA IN THE UNITED STATES The public's right to possess information is one of the central principles of American society. The first 10 amendments to the Constitution of the United States of America which became law in 1971 were called the new nation's Bill of Rights. They contained press freedom as one of the basic human rights. The first regular newspaper, the Boston NewsLetter, a weekly, was published by the city postmaster, John Campbell. Time flies, however, and the means of communication - what we now call the 'media' - have grown immensely more complex; today they also include television, radio, films and cable TV. The term 'press' has expanded to refer now to any news operation in any media, not just print. The total number of daily newspapers in the United States is shrinking - from 1.748 in 1970 to 1.642 in 1989. Among the reasons of that are: the fact that in many families now both the husband and the wife work, they have less time to read; growing popularity of TV - 98 per cent of all American houses are equipped with at least one TV set, 65 per cent of Americans use TV as their primary source of news. For people too busy to keep up with a daily newspaper there are magazines organizing news into separate departments such as national affairs, business and science. The 1920s also saw the birth of a new mass medium, radio. By 1928 the United States had three national radio networks - two owned by the state. The most famous newspapers are: The New York Times, The Washington Post , USA Today, The famous Tv channels are: CNN news, PBS, The Discovery Channel, The Weather Channel (Weather in Lansing), NBC, ABC, CBS, ESPN . not the American way of life. They love changes, they call it the spirit of adventure , a spirit that they think is more characteristic to American than of Europe. And so the European still like to move away , to change homes and jobs. They seem to be constantly pulling down old and often quite beautiful houses or throwing away things merely because they are old. They have none of the Englishmans sentimental love for things because they are old. The Americans dont feel that at all. The American houses have no hedges or fences separating them from the pavement or from each other. Americans like new things- and they get rid of their friends as they do of their cars. No one strikes acquaintance sooner than Americans do, and nobody finds it harder to make a real friendship. Americans also love to travel, but when they take car trips, they dont usually just drive and sightsee. They like to have a destination. The rapid spread of videotaped movies, watched nightly by millions of Americans in their homes, has made movies and even more popular and influential form of entertainment in recent years. The name Ford became a household word around the world. Testul 20.The important facts os the UK. Of GB and North. IRELALAND Because Im not an English citizen I dont know many facts thats why I asked an Englishman from London about this and he told me many interesting facts which I didnt know. The United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland is situated on the British Isles. The British Isles consist of two large islands, Great Britain and Ireland, and about five thousands small islands. Their total area is over 244 000 square kilometers. The United Kingdom is one of the world's smaller countries. Its population is over 60 million. About 80 percent of the population is urban. The United Kingdom is made up of four countries: England, Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland. The capital of the UK is London- one of the largest city in Europe. London has three major airports Heathrow the biggest airport in the world London City Airport and Gatwick. Canary wharf in London is the tallest building in England The British Isles are separated from the Continent by the North Sea and the British Channel. The surface of the British Isles varies very much. The north of Scotland is mountainous and is called the
Highlands. The South, which has beautiful valleys and plains, is called the Lowlands. The UK is a highly developed industrial country. It produces and exports machinery, electronics, and textile. One of the chief industries of the country is shipbuilding UK has also been one of the strongest countries in the world with the best royal marines and also bests the royal air forces. The largest islands are Great Britain and Ireland. The area of the United Kingdom is 94,251 square miles. The population is 57,2 min. Britain has a generally mild and temperate climate. The prevailing winds are southwesterly and the weather from day to day is controlled mainly by the succession of depressions from the Atlantic. The seas round the British Isles are shallow. These are the Irish Sea and the North Sea. This shallowness is in some ways an advantage. Shallow water is warmer than deep water and helps to keep the shores from extreme cold. Britain is a land with few high mountains, but it has a great variety of hills. We may divide the mountains into the following groups: The highest peaks are not in England, but in Scotland to the North and in Wales to the West. Ben Nevis in the Scottish Highlands is the highest mountain in Great Britain - 4,406 feet high (1347 m), Showdown in North Wales is 3,560 feet high (1085 m). In England itself, the highest hills are in the North and in the South-West. The lakes of the British Isles are not of much importance. They are mostly too small and too remote to be useful as portions of a system of navigable waterways. The largest is Laugh Neigh in N.Ireland.Britain is rich in rivers. In Scotland, the Clyde flowing west, and the Tay, the Forth and the Tweed flowing East, in England, the Tyne and the Humber. Few of these rivers are navigable, and the Thames, one of the longest, is a little over 200 miles. Test 22.What places of interest would you like to visit if you were in London If I were in London a good starting place be visited would be Trafalgar Square with Nelsons to Column right in the centre. It is a 51m column, poised on top of which is the hero of the Battle of Trafalgar, who was killed while winning in 1805. Then comes Westminster Abbey. Every King and Queen of England since William the Conqueror has been crowned there, and many are buried here, as well as many other notable historic figures. One of the places, which interested me, is Covent Garden. Covent Garden Plaza in the centre of the area has regained some of the popularity it experienced in the 17thcentury. It has coffee-houses, street entertainment, boutiques, elegant shops and a feeling of cafe society. Im feeling exceptionally energetic, to climb the Golden Gallery - 530 steps and to see one of the great views of London. In a very real sense
St Pauls is one of the churches of the City of London. From there it is very easy to walk down to Tower Bridge and the Tower of London, which is awesome, frightening and yet at the same time extremely charming. Testul 23.Because Australia is the worlds largest island and the worlds smallest continent. Australia is also the worlds driest inhabited continent. Most of its population lives on the coastal fringe. Id like to visit this country because it has a specific fauna and flora. The best-known native trees are: eucalyptus and acacia. Many of Australias fauna are unique some even grotesque compared with those of the old world. For example: kangaroo, koala, dingo, platypus etc. Birds peculiar to Australia are: the emus, lire bird, kookaburras and others. The first people to live in Australia called Aborigines migrated there about 40.000 years ago. The continent remained relatively unknown by outsiders until the 17th century. The English also say that they have three variants of weather: when it rains in the morning, when it rains in the afternoon or t\when it rains all day long. It means that the climate is very variable. The weather is the favourite conversational topic in GB. After they greet each other they start talking the weather. The best time of the year in GB is spring(of course, it rains in spring too). The two worst months in britain are January and February. They are cold, damp and unpleasant. The best place in the world then is at home by the big fire. Summer months are rather cold and there can be a lot of rainy days. So most people who look
Mi$ca
forward to summer holidays, plan to go abroad for the summer. The most unpleasant aspect of English weather is fog and smog. This is extremely bad in big cities especially in London. The fog spreads everywhere so cars move along slowly and people can't see each other. They try not to be run over by a car but still accidents are frequent in the fog.
