CP-401 Managing Global Business Organizations

Objective: This course is designed to expose students to reality of the new global village that we are living in ever since the onset of LPG (liberalization, privatization and globalization) in India. Course Outline: UNIT I: Overview of Global Business Environment Overview of the evolving global business environment, what is changing in India due to LPG and what are the challenges various sectors in India face. New Economic system and World Trade Organisation UNIT II: Process of Globalization Components of the International business environment political, legal, technological etc. and how those are the same or different from the domestic business environment Business models for globalization, customization versus localization Entry Strategies and organizational structures UNIT III: International Alliances Business blocks and their significance, Impact of global recessions on global exports and imports historically. Managing Global-Local Mix for customers, Management Challenges

and opportunities in the global business arena


UNIT IV: Cross-culture and Global Technology Management Role of Culture- Organisation culture and diversity,cross-cultural communication and negotiation. Global Technology Management- Technology and International Business, Technology strategy. Role of Patents, Intellectual Property & Rights, copyrights, trademarks etc. Practical: (1) identify top 50 products in international trade (2) identify 20 countries for growth where India is unable to trade in a legal product or business due to that country's restrictions (3) identify 20 products in pharma or otherwise whose patents are expiring in the next 2 years and can be manufactured in India (4) work with an organization to understand process of starting an overseas branch office and the associated challenges on various fronts Suggested Readings: 1.
