A. Summary of the Lesson Plan: Students will learn more about the 13 colonies as a whole. Students will learn about different materials and tools that helped the colonies function. B. Target Population: Grade Level: 5th Skill Level: all skill levels Grouping: whole group(review of the colonies, closure), small group (learning centers) C. Materials: The Book: If You Lived In Colonial Times (pages 1-40) Computers Learning Center Handouts-for each section (The book, the video, interactive site, and colonial trades site) Kindles
D. Objectives: o NV State Social Studies Standards H1.5.5 Describe the social, political, and religious lives of people in the New England, Middle, and Southern colonies. G6.5.2 Identify U.S. regions in which historical events occurred, i.e., thirteen colonies, Underground Railroad, and California gold fields.
Student-Friendly Standards H1.5.5. I can describe different aspects of the people who lived in the colonies. G6.5.2 I can identify places that have some historical events that have occurred in America
E. Procedure: 1. Review of the 13 colonies. Then students will be broken up into small groups and be given directions to start the given assignment in the designated learning center.

2. Students will have 15-20 minutes at each learning center, and then rotate to the next center. Centers are listed as follows: If You Lived in Colonial Times (pages 1-40), at this learning center, students are to read the book as a group and complete the given worksheet on the book. The worksheet is in order of the mini-chapters students are assigned. Students will use the link: http://www.schooltube.com/video/552f6a4a866842d9f5 c1/, students are to watch the video and write down at least 4 facts about what they learned from the video. Students will visit the site: http://mrnussbaum.com/13colonies/13int/, they are to locate the 13 colonies and the cities listed and write them down on the given map. Students are to then click on each of the interactive cities-read the information about it-then paraphrase what they read and write it down. Students will visit the site: http://mrnussbaum.com/13colonies/13trades/, they are to read the descriptions of the trade and artisans. They are then to pick 5 trade and artisans-draw a picture, describe the task/tool/skill, and tell why they chose it.
3. When students complete each learning center, they are to go back to their seats with all their completed materials. 4. CLOSURE: Briefly review the materials from each learning center. F. I will use the information they turn into me from their learning centers. Explain how you will know students understand the concepts from the lesson. I will know that students understood the concepts of the lesson by seeing their answers and how accurate their responses are.

None of it will be challenging. 3. How will you follow up or extend this lesson? Students could compare how they live now versus how people lived in colonial days. 4. What will you do for students who dont grasp the concepts? Review the material; pinpoint exactly what they do not understand. 5. Which part of the lesson, if any, do you think might need to change? I do not think I need to change this lesson. 6. When you were writing this lesson plan, what was the most difficult part? I had no difficulties with this lesson.
