    CURRENT AND FUTURE DEVELOPMENT OF OPEN SOURCE SOFTWARE AND LATEST DEVELOPMENT IN ICT
    1.0 INTRODUCTION
    Open source software is define by the user of the software who can get the source code of the program that they are running, whereas, source code is the code written by a programmer in a certain high-level programming language. On the other hand, computer hardware, as we know is the physical components or part that forms tha computer such as monitor, keyboard, hard disk, mouse. Softwares are the programs and other operating information used by a computer to help human being to solve daily problem.

    2.0 THE LATEST OPEN SOURCE OPERATING SYSTEM (OS) 2.1 MEANING OF OPEN SOURCE OS
    An operating system (OS) is a collection of software that manages computer hardware resources and provides common services for computer programs. The operating system is a vital component of the system software in a computer system. Application programs require an operating system to function. An open source OS, mean that the user of the operating system can developed the OS and usually it is done by programmers. The open source OS is free, and opened to public.

    2.2 EXAMPLE OF OPEN OPEN SOURCE OS


    Linux is a good example open source operating system. Linux is licensed up by GPL/LGPL. The programming laguage used to

    write this program is C. Linux has mnay networking support such as Bluetooth and Wireless LAN. Linux also has bulit in Firewall called netfilter/iptables. Linux supports many platform such as Firewire, USB 2.0, Nvidia official diver, ATI official driver, ATI r200 free software drive, and Nvidia free software drive. Other than that, there is another open source OS called FreeBSD which was also writen is C. It is licensed up by BSD; GPL, LGPL. FreeBSD provides several security-related features including access control lists (ACLs), security event auditing, extended file system attributes, fine-grained capabilities and mandatory access controls (MAC). FreeBSD has several unique features related to storage. Soft updates maintain filesystem integrity in the event of a system crash. The GEOM framework provides features such as RAID (levels 0, 1, 3 currently), full disk encryption, and concatenation of drives.

    3.0 THE LATEST OPEN SOURCE APPLICATION SOFTWARE 3.1 MEANING OF OPEN SOURCE APPLICATION SOFTWARE Open source software (OSS) is a computer program that is available in a source code form. The source code and certain other rights normally reserved for copyright holders are provided under an open-source license that permits users to study, change, improve and at times also to distribute the software. By collaborative manner, the open source application software is often developed in public. 3.2 EXAMPLE OF OPEN SOURCE APPLICATION SOFTWARE Since the open source application software in opened to public, so there are many people who can develop a particular software. One of the most popular web browsing software is Mozilla Firefox. This software is developed for Microsoft Windows, Mac OS

    X and Linux and it is coordinated by Mozilla Corporation and Mozilla Foundation. Besides, Firefox also uses the Gecko layout engine to render web pages, which implements current and anticipated web standards. Firefox uses a sandbox security model, and limits scripts from accessing data from other web sites based on the same origin policy. Another example of open source application software is Anti-Virus Guard(AVG). It is a free anti-virus software for internet security. It can run on windows based PC, Mac OS X ,linux and FreeBSD. AVG Anti-Virus was certified by ICSA Labs. At PCWorld.com AVG 7.5 received a 3.0/5. It did a "fine job" in disinfection tests, but ranked last of the ten products tested in proactive protection using one-month-old signature files. According to AVG Technologies, over 106 million users have AVG Anti-Virus protection, including users of the Free Edition.

    4.0 THE LATEST DEVELOPMENT IN ICT 4.1 HARDWARE


    The hardware that i have chosen is intel ivy bridge processor . Ivy Bridge is the codename for Intel's 22 nm die shrink of the Sandy Bridge microarchitecture based on trigate ("3D") transistors. There are five type of model in this type of microarchitecture which is Pentium G Series, Core i3 Series ,Core i5 Series ,Core i7 Series,Xeon E3 v2 Series. The amazing clock speed of the microprocessor is from 1.70 GHz to 3.80 GHz. This microporcessor has the latest PCI Express 3.0 support and RAM support up to 2800 MT/s in 200 MHz increments. It also has a bulit in Intel Quick Sync Video. The previous model of the the intel microporcessor is the Sandy Bridge processor. There are a total of eight series in this type of architecture which are Celeron Series,Pentium Series,Core i3 Series,Core i5 Series,Core i7 Series,Core i7 Extreme Series,Xeon E3 Series,Xeon E5 Series. The microprocessor has decoded micro-operation cache and enlarged, optimized branch predictor and also Improved performance for transcendental mathematics, AES encryption (AES instruction set), and SHA-1 hashing. Moreover, it also has 64-byte cache line size and shared L3 cache includes the processor graphics (LGA 1155)

    4.2 SOFTWARE
    The software that i have chosen is Adobe Photoshop CS6. This version of adobe photoshop was released on 21 March 2012It adds new creative design tools and a redesigned interface with a focus on enhanced performance. New features have been added to the Content-Aware tool such as the Content-Aware Patch and Content-Aware Move.Adobe Photoshop CS6 also brings suite of tools for video editing. Color and exposure adjustments, as well as layers are among a few things that are featured in this new editor. Upon completion of editing, the user is presented with a handful of options of exporting into a few popular formats.CS6 also allows background saving, which means that while another document is compiling and archiving itself, it is possible to simultaneously edit an image. CS6 also features a customizable autosave feature, preventing any work from being lost. The previous version of th adobe photoshop is CS5 which was released on12 April 2010. CS5 introduces new tools such as the Content-Aware Fill, Refine Edge, Mixer Brush, Bristle Tips and Puppet Warp. The community also had a hand in the additions made to CS5 as 30 new features and improvements were included by request. These include automatic image straightening, the Rule-of-Thirds cropping tool, color pickup and saving an 16-bit image as a JPEG. Another feature includes the Adobe Mini

    Bridge which allows for efficient file browsing and management.

    5.0 PERVASIVE COMPUTING 5.1 MEANING OF PERVASIVE COMPUTING


    Pervasive computing (also called ubiquitous computing) is the growing trend towards embedding microprocessors in everyday objects so they can communicate information. The words pervasive and ubiquitous mean "existing everywhere." Pervasive computing devices are completely connected and constantly available.

    5.2 EXAMPLE OF PERVASIVE COMPUTING


    iPhone is the most famous phone out there which can be catogorise as a pervasive computing. It has many cellular and wireless connectivity for example is CDMA EV-DO Rev.A (800, 1900 MHz)4 , 802.11b/g/n Wi-Fi (802.11n 2.4GHz only) ,Bluetooth 4.0 wireless technology. It has the latest apple A5X chip built in which is the most advanced mobile processor. In it, it is running iOS 5, which is the easiest operating system to be used. Another good example of pervasive computing is ASUS Transformer Pad Infinity. It is and mobile android based, tablet. It is currently running under Nvedia Tegra 3 microprocessor, which has the clock rate up to 2.6 Ghz. It has along with a dock keyboard, GPS receiver,3-axis accelerometer-gyroscope. In a nutshell, both the device has a multitouch screen and they are the most powerful phone and tablet out in the market.

    6.0 CONLUSION As a conclusion, a computer user should know the operating system that they are using. We also should appreciate what humans had discovered.. there are many other latest ICT development that i had not said but as a user we should explore the unexplored.
