THOUGHTS FROM BRAD

Today I continue with an article pertaining to our Core Values at Fifth Avenue. Discipleship is a critical value for the life of this church. We do not want our only means of discipling to take place in our Sunday services or our Bible School hour. We believe firmly in the concept of getting our congregants involved in a discipleship group. That is a very biblical concept. The early believers went from house to house. Yet as much as we see the value of discipleship, I am not convinced many have fully bought into the concept that we each are called to disciple others (Mt. 28:19-20). Jesus had a vision of one plus one plus one. In other words, His idea is that we are to make disciples who make disciples who make disciplesuntil the world knows the truth of Jesus Christ. Allow me to say something that you may not want to hear. It is impossible to be a disciple or follower of someone and not end up like that person! Jesus said: A disciple is not above his teacher, but everyone when he is fully trained will be like his teacher (Luke 6:40). So the real question for you who claim to follow Jesus is: Am I like Jesus? The whole point of being His disciple is that we will imitate Him and carry on His ministry. As we do, we will become like Him in the process. Lets allow that to sink in this week and ask yourself that all important question, Am I like Jesus? In His Service, Brad

HOPPERS CONCERT: I have posted a

sign-up sheet for our next seniors event. On Saturday evening, March 23, we will be attending a Gospel Concert featuring The Hoppers, The Guardians and The McCrary Family. This concert is being hosted by Ohio Christian University in Circleville. Tickets are $15 per person. We have just 25 tickets available. Due to our cash commitment, I will need your payment when you sign up. (Watch for an announcement regarding our time of departure.)
SUNDAY EVENINGS IN THE SANCTUARY:

This week, February 17, we are kicking off a new series of studies. Over the next several weeks we will be examining the lives of some great Bible Characters. The first message in this new series will be Stephen, The Martyr (Acts 6 & 7). On February 24, we will take a look at Barnabas, The Supporter (Acts 4:36 & 11:24). If you are not involved in a small group on Sunday evenings, I encourage you to join us. Communion is available for those who desire. Also, remember that we now have activities for children each Sunday evening. We will resume our midweek study groups this week (February 20). In both, the 10:00 am and 6:30 pm groups, we will be examining Ephesians, chapter 4. We do invite you to be a part of these studies.

Last week in Childrens Church, we had a Valentines Day Party! During this party, we learned about the person who loves us the most! God loves us unconditionally, and He teaches us that we should love others as well! (even after Valentines Day!) With these great new things happening in our church, I believe that God will be bringing new families to us! God calls us to love them and welcome them into our family here. I am so excited to see what He has planned! *I am looking for helpers for Sunday Morning, second service! Please email me at [email protected] or call at (606) 524-5503. Please pray and ask God if He is calling you to get involved in this Childrens Ministry. Hannah

SCOTTS THOUGHTS
Have you ever gone from one room to another to get some specific item but by the time you get there you have forgotten why you went in the first place? I certainly have, and often make two or three trips back and forth before I figure it out. Life is full of distractions and sometimes we forget our purpose, but what if the purpose is a matter of life and death? The purpose of what we call the church is in fact a matter of life and death. In Romans 1:16&17, the apostle Paul writes: For I am not ashamed of this Good News about Christ. It is the power of God at work, saving everyone who believes-the Jew first and also the Gentile. This Good News tells us how God makes us right in his sight. This is accomplished from start to finish by faith. As the scriptures say, it is through faith that a righteous person has life. For those of us in Christ, we have good news to share that is in fact the difference between a saved life, and a life lost for all eternity. We must not forget the mission God has called us to join. One of the great mysteries of life is that God saves us and then asks us to partner with Him in bringing life to others around us. When we gather as believers, we come to worship God, holding Him up for all the world to see and declaring that He is Lord of our lives. We are also instructed to build up our brothers and sisters, encouraging each other in love. That encouragement is to spur one another on to love and good works that in turn bring glory to God and call others to salvation. Lord, keep us ever mindful that we are saved from something and that we are saved for something. Help us to see the good things You have prepared for us to do. Let Your Spirit ignite a holy passion to see others saved and You glorified among the nations.

During the past year we have made heroes of the military men and women who have connections with our members. As far as I know we have honored all of them. Their pictures and addresses are on the board in the parlor. Please remember them in prayer and encouragement. Thanks for what you did for these brave men and women. ~ Donna Cupler

We will no longer be doing blood pressure checks on the first Sunday of each month. If you would like to have your blood pressure checked while at church, please see Cindy Cox, Mark Hendricks, Tyler Hendricks, Bev Puckett, or Julie Stuck.

Help is needed to prepare communion for 2nd worship. If you can help with this, please contact Denise Baird at 653-5692. The Dorcas Society will have a potluck luncheon on Tuesday, February 19th at noon. All ladies are welcome! Invite a family member or a friend. Any questions, contact Linda Daubenmire at 653-0149.

WELCOME TO FIFTH AVENUE! At FACC, we focus on loving God, loving people, and turning the world upside down. We are happy you chose to worship with us today. We hope you return next week and bring your friends with you. If you would please take a few minutes to fill out a Silent Roll Call Card, located on the back of the pew, you can then place it in the offering plate as it is passed. Thank you. For more information about our great church, contact our minister, Brad Seevers at [email protected] or call him at 740.550.9882. Have a great week and may God bless your life.

Core Values...
Values central to the life, mission and vision of Fifth Avenue Church of Christ are:

Sermon Notes ________________________

________________________________________ ________________________________________ ________________________________________ ________________________________________ ________________________________________ ________________________________________ ________________________________________ ________________________________________ _________________________________________ _____________________________________

Christ-Centered Worship
We make it a priority every Sunday to celebrate Jesus through our music. (Romans 11:36-12:1-2). We focus on Jesus through grace-based preaching and teaching & understand the Bible is our authority (2 Timothy 3:16).

Church Health and Biblical Balance

Church health becomes reality when God's people seek harmony & live consistently. We expect every member to protect the unity of Christ's Church. (Romans 12:16; 1 Peter 3:8)

Global Evangelism
We are constant to our founding call to worldwide evangelism, proclaiming to all that Jesus Christ is the Savior, Healer, and Soon-Coming King (Acts 20:27).

Fellowship and Ministry

After people begin their journey with Jesus, we will equip them to find a ministry based upon their strengths. We want everyone to serve in some capacity. (1 Corinthians 12:12-27) We also want His church to be the living evidence of His love and power to the world.

How Can I Respond Today?

At FACC we look to the Bible for guidance on all issues. We believe that Gods Word is clear concerning what a person must do to become a Christian. Trust that Jesus can bring you to salvation. Turn (repent) from the sin in your life. Confess your desire to make Jesus the Lord of your life. Be baptized (immersed) in water for the forgiveness of sins and to receive the Holy Spirit into your life. To make this life decision for Christ, we ask that you come forward during our commitment song at the conclusion of the Sunday message. Baptized believers are welcome to become members at FACC by coming forward on Sunday morning or by seeing our Senior Minister to discuss this further. We ask that you complete a series of Curious classes to help you better understand what you are committing to as a member.

Discipleship
We do not want you to "get religion" here at Fifth Avenue Church of Christ in Lancaster. We are all about teaching you that Jesus seeks a daily relationship with Him through a life of obedience. In other words, we want to see the things you are taught actually change your lifestyle & your daily decisions.

Social Conscience
We place high value on the sanctity of human life, of Biblical marriage and morality, and we welcome ethnic diversity (Isaiah 56:7; Philippians 2:15-16).
