Before you commence reading, please pause for a moment and have a look at the objects around you. What, do you think, is the story that is hidden within them ? Where did the initial idea come from? How was the object designed ? How was the object manufactured ? How were the costs of the entire process calculated ? How did the object get here to you in the first place ? Now, if you take a step further and look at the surrounding area of the object the room in which you are reading these words. What is the story about the room, the building, the street, the district, the city, the country? We would like to invite you do a little exercise. As a training company, we like our audience to participate. Therefore, please choose a particular object which will accompany you whilst reading the following pages.
The world of business is commonly associated with having people work in an environment geared solely towards making a profit. Unfortunately, more often than not, the words global business tend to be viewed negatively. And the term business speak is usually synonymous with the empty jargon that has entered and often dominates large parts of the corporate business world. We believe this need not be the case.
Take the particular object we asked you to select, or perhaps, any product, service you or your organisation makes, provides or uses. Now reflect on its story. We are sure that you will find the whole environment is nothing short of fascinating. By simply exploring the endless possibilities of ideas, co-operation, expertise and dedication which leads to the end result, we enter a highly interesting world. Yet, how often is this taken for granted or simply forgotten ?
Looking at it differently, it is the people who perform the tasks for which they have been trained. It is about their exceptional skills, their enjoyment in being part of something which can be done with pride and professionalism. All of these attributes are reflected in the object we asked you to choose, even if it is mass produced in highly automated processes.
Beyond that, it is about various inputs. These can range from ideas to information and are the drivers which lead to your object being where it is now. None of the above can happen without knowledge. It is not just the experience people have gained. It is, quite simply, what makes people unique traditions, cultures, expertise, view points. Nothing functions without it. In other words, where was your object manufactured? What are the stories which can be associated with that region, it's people, their lives?
When you take these three elements the people, their inputs and their knowledge, there comes a time when something specific must be communicated.
However, this is where many things come unstuck. What is my message? Not just in my own native language but in another language ? How can I see a problem not just from my perspective but also from that of my business partner ? What questions must I ask ? How do I say it differently, diplomatically, convincingly ? How can I reduce the complexity out of what we have to say ? This is where we come in and help. This is our world and we would like to welcome you into it and share with us the fascination of what other people do. Instead of saying it's none of your business , simply say it's all our business .
Mission
Remember our little exercise with your object and all the communication challenges that come during its life cycle ? Here is how it relates to our mission. Our mission is to provide communication solutions for situations where the implementation of operational and strategic goals in an international environment requires further attention. Both as a sender of content and a recipient of content.

Let us consider your object. The people involved in its entire life cycle had to communicate with each other. Perhaps there were situations in which it was difficult to do so. Language barriers, cultural barriers there are many barriers which can hinder the flow of inputs and knowledge.
Our own working applications take a more holistic approach by focusing on the people who need to send and receive content, quite often in another language and in challenging environments or situations.
As a result, when we work in international environments, we do not teach language. Instead, we provide guidance in the effective application of language. In the majority of cases, this language is English.
Our clients always provide the situations and the content whilst we provide worksheets and mind mapping techniques to transform the content into practical communication scenarios.
Method
Your object and everyone and everything associated with it would be integrated into our training method. In fact, if you have been doing our little exercise, you will have already begun to adopt our method. Our training method is based on what is known as reflective practice techniques. This method has several advantages : It works by associating our training with the participant's past and current experiences to help them be prepared for future challenges. The learning experience goes much deeper and is more sustainable. It is the difference between knowing something and understanding it. Knowing is a superficial collection of facts and figures. Understanding is to reflect on the situation in order to live it. By using reflective practice, training to communicate is improved as it is understood and can subsequently be lived. The process of understanding is improved by having the participants see the work content not only from their perspective but also from the perspective of their communication partners. It combines relevance, develops cognitive skills and helps problem solving. It prepares for the spontaneity which lie in future situations which can be better mastered because the participant will have increased knowledge and confidence.

Generally, they will find themselves in situations where working with other people from different cultural backgrounds in an international business environment is fast becoming the norm. The employees of the company which produced your chosen object might have needed support to improve confidence and work more effectively in such an international environment. However, we need to start with basics. We think it should be everybody's goal to achieve an effective result. But what is that? Perhaps when no further questions of clarification or understanding are required? To achieve an effective result requires a clearly defined communication goal. It also requires the appreciation of an employee's personality and background within the communication process. Finally it requires the most appropriate communication method. Our work here is to help your employees prepare and formulate clear, precise communication goals and then combine them with the communication skills and then selecting the most appropriate communication method. Our training is supported by worksheets, mindmapping techniques combined with the actual situations and challenges facing the employees. .

Your object almost certainly was in the spotlight in situations in which one or several communication skills such as informing, clarifying or convincing were required. Usually, these skills are conveyed in presentations, meetings, on the phone or via email. There are several combinations to explore.
At the beginning, there is nothing but a blank sheet of paper. It is used by two people to discus what needs to be discussed, prepared, reviewed, argued, communicated, researched. The possibilities are endless but are always determined by the client.
In the past we have supported Executives in joint venture projects, helping them prepare for key note speeches or presentations, meetings and negotiations. The range of topics has been wide and the support has been very detailed. Sometimes it is simply investing time in order to have an intelligent discussion and exchange thoughts and ideas, seek other opinions in order to formulate and articulate own opinions. And, perhaps, to talk about those objects. Like yours.
Whatever the motivation and whatever the content, the key secret ingredients of the Executive Program are the chemistry, the mutual respect, the trust and the confidentiality.
The Entrepreneur Programme is a Peer to Peer training process which has been designed to combine three elements : communication training, cross cultural awareness and business topics. The workshop language is English.
The authenticity which is communicated is based on personal experiences and knowledge and it is this which can also influence mindsets and attitudes. Personal growth and development is also addressed as knowledge, capabilities and confidence increase. This provides long term motivation. The venue is our training centre in Cleebourg / France. Here, participants will find the perfect environment to leave the office behind and step into a completely different world. Minds can be expanded and thoughts can travel all the way to the horizon and back. Each workshop lasts two days allowing other communication skills (networking, socializing) to develop, all in an atmosphere of exquisite French hospitality.
A very small group of people from different companies, backgrounds and where possible, different nationalities discuss challenges which they and their organisations face.
Peer to peer learning is active learning. Participants are encouraged to generate questions, discuss topics, express opinions in an attempt to find solutions to the common challenge being examined. During the workshop, topics and communication begin to merge as the solution searching process develops and the relationships begin to deepen. Participants will be able to identify with each other because all face the same challenge. This process makes it an experience which goes deeper than traditional training formats.
The Entrepreneur Programme is aimed at all management levels, participants who have or will have international exposure or employees who have been selected as having above average development potential.

Learning Environment

About us
Business Speak Ltd is a UK based training company with a branch in France. The directors of Business Speak Ltd are husband and wife team, Frank Peters and Mary Crouch. Frank Peters, born 1961 in Hamburg, Germany spent his childhood in Japan and Australia. After living in Germany for 6 years, he moved to England to continue developing his career in hotel management as well as hospitality training. With more than 13 years in the hotel industry, Frank understands a thing or two about working with people. In 1994 he changed his career to fully focus on communication training in English. He specialised in international business situations for major companies such as DaimlerChrysler, Walmart, Bombardier Transportation. Other companies in his portfolio of experience include smaller companies which have required special training solutions. His work has taken him to several countries. At the same time, Frank has been involved in various Joint Venture projects with Korean, Chinese and Russian and American partners. In 2006, together with his English wife, Mary, Frank founded Business Speak Ltd. Whilst Frank continued with the training program, Mary, who also has long experience in the hotel business, conducts hotel inspections around the world. Both live in France as well as in England and their daily lives are influenced by a mixture of international communication, international cultures and challenges.
