Preliminaries

• Greetings

Good day, class! I am Nelly Mae Zapanta. I will

be your Mathematics teacher today.
Good Morning, Ma’am

How’s your day, class?

We’re fine
That’s good to hear.

 Prayer

Before we begin our lesson for today, let us

pray first. (The pupils will pray the “Our Father”)

 Energizers

Remain standing and lets have a quick (The students are following the lead)
Warm up. Just follow my lead
 Checking of Attendance
(Present !!)

Say present if your name is called.

 Classroom Management
Now, moving on to classroom rules:
Please read!!
1. Pay close attention when someone is
speaking.
(The students are reading )
2. Treat others with kindness and
respect.
3. Respect and consider different
viewpoints.
4. Avoid making fun of or belittling
others.
5. Always show compassion and
understanding.

Does everyone understand these

guidelines?
Yes, Ma’am

A. Review

Class, can you still remember with our topic the

Yes, Ma’am
other day?
Its Equation

Correct!!

Can another answer this,

Directions: Solve the following equations.

1 1
1. + =¿
4 4

2 1
2. + =¿
3 6

2 5
3. 3 +1 =¿
7 7

3 1
4. − =¿
4 4

2 1
5. 2 − =¿
3 3

B. Activity

Class, I have a video here, all you have

Yes, Ma’am
to do is to watch the video. After that I
will ask some questions.
https://youtu.be/5lHXd1cJcMQ?feature=shared

Okay Class, base on the video, what to do

About fractions, Ma’am
think is our topic for tonight?

Very good!!

C. Analysis

Our topic for tonight is Addition of simple

fraction and Mixed Numbers

Class, do you like pizza? Do you share it Yes, Ma’am

with your friends?

Me too, did you know sharing pizza slices

with your friends involves understanding
addition of simple fractions to ensure a fair
distribution and accurately determine how
many slices are left.

How will you share this pizza to your Yes Ma’am,

friends?

D. Abstraction

Fractions are numbers that represent a part

of the whole, smaller pieces, or part of
things. When an object or a group of
objects is divided into equal parts, then
each individual part is a fraction. A fraction
consisting of a numerator and denominator
is called simple fraction. It is written in a
way where the numerator is above the
fraction bar, and the denominator is below.

For example:

Numerator, denominator ,fractions bar

1 (how many days we have)
8 how many parts divided into)

There are two kinds of simple fractions. We

have proper fractions and improper
fractions have numerators that are less
than their denominator

Improper fractions have numerators that

are more than or equal to their
denominator

If a fraction consists of a whole number,

numerator, and denominator, it is called
mixed numbers.

Fractions can be combined through addition

or be deducted by subtracting from another
fraction. To properly add or subtract
fractions, first, we need to determine what
type of fractions we are dealing with. There
are 3 types of set of fractions: similar
fractions, dissimilar fractions, and mixed
fractions.

Similar fractions have the same

denominators. For example: 3/8 𝑎𝑛𝑑 3/6
To add or subtract similar fractions

Step 1: Add or subtract the numerators

Step 2: Write the sum or difference over the

common denominator

Step 3: Simplify or write the answer in

lowest terms if necessary.

Dissimilar fractions have different

denominators. For example: 2/8 𝑎𝑛𝑑 3/12

To add or subtract dissimilar fractions

Step 1: Determine the least common

denominator (LCD).

Step 2: Get the equivalent fractions using

the denominator

Step 3: Add or subtract the numerators,

then write the sum or difference over the
common denominator.

Step 4: Simplify or write the answer in

lowest terms if necessary.

Example : The sum of 3 and 1

4 8
Solution:

Find the least common multiple of the

denominator to find the least common
denominator.

Mixed numbers are fractions with a

combination of a whole number and a proper
fraction.

For example: 5 5/8 𝑎𝑛𝑑 2 3/8

To add or subtract mixed fractions with similar

fractions:

Step 1: Add the fractional parts

Step 2: Add the whole numbers.

Step 3: Write the answer in lowest terms,

If possible

E. Generalizations

Do you understand now , what is

Addition of Simple Fractions and Mixed
Numbers ?
Yes, Ma’am
Class, can you think of times when you
might use addition of fractions and
mixed numbers in everyday life, like
when you're helping in the kitchen,
shopping with your family, planning
your allowance, or building things with
blocks?
Yes, Ma’am

How do these math skills make these

activities easier?

Why are learning to add fractions and (Answer may vary)

mixed numbers important for building
strong math skills?

How can knowing these basics help you

with more math challenges later on?

Do you now understand ?

Yes, Ma’am

F. Application

I will divide you into 2 group

Each group can work on their assigned

problems, and then the whole group
can come together to discuss and
compare solutions.

Present your output later

Yes, Ma’am
Understood!!!

Group 1

Group 2
IV. Evaluation

V. Assignment

Directions: Refer to the table below and

answer the questions that follow. Write your
answers neatly on the space provided.

Aling Celia plans to go to the local fruit market

to buy some fruits that will help their family to
boost their immune system against COVID-19
virus.
