This week's featured Bryan County United Way agency is Families Feeding Families. Families Feeding Families was founded in Durant in 2004 by Brian and Tish Burkhalter. Families Feeding Families is a nonprofit charity that provides hot meals Monday through Friday from 4:30 to 6 p.m. "We felt like it was something the Lord wanted us to do," said Tish Burkhalter. The fifth annual Red River Ford United Way Food Drive began on Oct. 1 and will run through Nov 17. The food drive collects nonperishable foods for six food banks in Bryan County. "We've got to make it big this year" said Pat Lynch of Red River Ford.
The goal this year is to collect 50,000 pounds of food and $5,000 in donations. The food banks include Families Feeding Families, Hands of Hope, Bread of Life, The River, St. Catherine's and the Salvation Army. their registration information may apply by filling out and mailing an Oklahoma Voter Registration Application form in time for it to be postmarked no later than midnight Friday, Oct. 12. Fahrendorf said that applications postmarked after that time still will be accepted and processed, but the applications will not be approved until after Nov. 6. The County Election Board responds in writing to every person who submits an application for voter registration. The response is either a Voter Identification Card listing the new voter's precinct number and polling place
location or a letter that explains the reason or reasons the application for voter registration was not approved. Fahrendorf said that any person who has submitted a voter registration application and who has not received a response within 30 days should contact the County Election Board office. Oklahoma Voter Registration Application forms are available at the County Election Board office located at 217 N 16'h, Durant, Ok, and at most post offices, tag agencies, and public libraries in the county. Fahrendorf said that applications also are available on the Internet at www.elections.ok.gov.
