flexible, more interactive and challenging education than that offered in India. To me a computer or a piece of algorithm is the tangible outcome of an abstract mathematical thought hidden. Graduate study research is the natural progression of my career objective. To ascend the first few steps towards my goal of career in Computer Science, I took the Math stream in intermediate (10+2), cleared EAMCET exam and got admitted for Bachelors degree in the Department of Information Technology at Vignans Engineering College affiliated to the reputed University, JNTU. Though I got some exposure to some aspects of Computers in my high school, a comprehensive foundation in all the fields of Computer Science began after I entered my B.Tech. The curriculum of my undergraduate program, while stressing on basic concepts and theoretical ideas, gives importance to practical implementation and experimental work. This has stimulated my active involvement in my undergraduate studies. During my four year undergraduate course, I found Computer Networks, Database Management System, and Distributed Databases, most interesting. The field of Computer Networks interested me the most because of the scope for breaking new ground, as well as the vast applications possible from a LAN in the small organization to the whole internetworking. I have developed familiarity with a variety of different networks and their protocols that are currently in use. I am also aware that the installed base of networks is fairly large and is still growing. Nearly all UNIX shops run TCP/IP. Many large businesses still have mainframes running SNA. Personal computer LANs often use Novell NCP/IPX or Apple Talk. ATM systems are starting to become more widespread. Finally we have the specialized protocols in use on satellite, cellular and infrared networks. This trend, I believe will continue for years to come, and hence the area offers exciting opportunities for future research.
My undergraduate studies has not only given me a sound footing in my subject basics but has also instilled in me a strong desire for a career in research and teaching. In my course work, I learnt Automata and Compiler Design, Mathematical Foundation for Computer Science etc., all having the flavor of abstract mathematics that I have a passion for. Also I learned my basics through subjects like Compiler Design, Databases, Operating Systems, Computer Networks, and Graphics and Systems Software. The study of courses in Digital Logic Design, Electronic Devices and Logic Circuits, Computer Organisation and Microprocessor Architecture further revealed to me how the internal structure of a computer is designed. To strengthen my conceptual understanding and gain a hands-on experience with various technologies, I worked on a summer project in C++, VC++ and JAVA. The integration of databases and computer networks has led to the emergence of a new field: Distributed Databases, which has been my favourite subject apart from networks and algorithms. I strongly feel that algorithms and complexity theory are the core concepts in Computer Science. Applying innovative thinking if we attempt to identify those contributions of computer science that are long lasting, surely one of these with further refinement could be evolved into a new algorithm. To work towards the invention of such new algorithms shall be the objective of my future academic endeavours. A good research career can be built only on a firm foundation of good education. With research as my long-term goal; I have chosen to first acquire an MS in Computer Science. Doing a Masters programme in George Masion University of America, will, I hope enable me to equip myself with a sound domain knowledge before I go on to pursue higher research work in my chosen area of specialization. By interacting with students who are currently studying at George Masion, I learned that the standard of education and the infrastructure facilities of the University is far superior to many Universities in India, be it the Peer groups, Faculty expertise, Industry linkages or the advanced research facilities available there. Hence, my decision to study at University of San Antonio.
