Primarily it can also be used in the treatment of Pagets disease of bone, for treating osteoporosis in postmenopausal women; however, it is also used to treat osteoporosis in men. It is a calcium supplement and vitamin D may be prescribed with the drug if dietary amounts are not adequate, however calcium should not be taken at the same time.
