PROGRAMS IN BUSINESS & ECONOMICS

Study & Intern in Europe EPA Internships in Europe offers students of

Business and Economics the unique opportunity to study and intern in their field in London, Edinburgh, Brussels, Berlin, Bonn/Cologne, or Madrid. EPA participants in the semester program take two courses while simultaneously completing a part-time internship, and summer participants complete a full-time internship exclusively. Students work together with European business leaders in prestigious internships that span the fields of communications, NGOs, regional business, the arts, and finance. Interns can immediately integrate what they learn in the classroom at their professional setting as well as bring back a wealth of hands-on knowledge both to their EPA classes and their home institutions. Whether students are looking to gain a foothold for a future career in international business or simply want a more direct experience of the European market, EPA offers an extremely well-rounded study abroad program.

What made you want to participate in the EPA program? I was drawn to the program because it provided not only international study opportunities, but more importantly, an internship with a global company. What did you learn while working at Ogilvy Public Relations? I was an integral part of the team supporting their European Union clients. My responsibilities included not only maintaining daily media monitoring and reports, but I also reached out to international media for project development and event support, while assisting with policy research and case studies. Through my internship, my desire to learn and grow, personally and professionally, was enhanced along with my strong passion to become a leader in the public relations and marketing industry. The experience also gave me the confidence that I can not only adjust but grow in an environment beyond my comfort zone. How did the internship impact your future in PR and your current position? Today, I have a strong sense of the worldwide market as I work with my clients, including Verizon Wireless and IRWIN Tools. This international market outlook was fostered by my Brussels experience. Furthermore, the experience at Ogilvy not only opened a broader world of public relations to me, but also prepared me well for my current position. As I remember the nerves I once had in Ogilvys office when contacting international media, the experience helped give me the courage and the experience to excel now with national media. The activities I observed my supervisor do at Ogilvy manage clients, call on media, and coordinate events I am now fulfilling myself.

"The internship (at a foundation for sustainable development) was valuable for me because I was able to experience a very unique part of the culture: the workplace. As an intern, you quickly learn that the 'norm' you learned about in your home country can be very different somewhere else. This really helps to set you apart from other students and show prospective employers your appreciation for diversity in the
