The Downhole Filter Sub is attached above various downhole tools such as the Roto-Jet and Vortex
Nozzle tools to prevent clogging and wear on the tool.
The standard Downhole Filter Sub is a wire wound filter. For the Roto-Jet tool, a magnetic trap is also
required to collect particles that could plug or damage the magnets in the speed governor. The gap
size on these filters is 0.010”.

Tubing Grapple Connector
The Tubing Grapple Connector connects bottom hole assemblies to the coiled tubing with
a superior gripping action. The design has been proven in heavy-duty applications such
as drilling, milling and fishing.
The Tubing Grapple Connector has been optimised for torque and tensile loads. Set
screws are not used to carry the torsional loads in this design. The principle of the
connector is that the grapple has fine thread profile on the inside diameter which is forced
into the tubing wall by a larger pitch thread on the outside diameter. The Tubing Grapple
Connector provides a high tensile and torsional strength connection onto the tubing.
In order to attach the grapple to the tubing there is a specific procedure to ensure that
good, consistent performance is achieved. Grapples must be checked to ensure that the
internal thread profile and slot edges are sharp, sometimes referred to as "wickers", prior
to fitting.

BDK Dimpleon Connector
The BDK Dimple Connector offers a fast, efficient and safe means of connecting the coiled tubing
connector to the tubing.
The BDK Hydraulic Yoke and Jig are essential tools for making up the BDK Dimple Connectors. The
Hydraulic Yoke can be operated via a hydraulic hand pump or control panel. The Jig is designed to suit
all wall thicknesses of that particular tubing size. Once the connection has been made it has the same
tensile and torque capability as the tubing.

Tubing Roll-on Connector
Roll-on connectors attach tools to the bottom of the coiled tubing string. It is (a)
important to use the correct roll-on fitting for the wall thickness and size of tubing.
The appropriate roller wheel must be used to apply the roll-on fitting.
Pressure rated the same as the rating of the coiled tubing. Tensile and torque
rating is 80% of the coiled tubing.

Sequence valves are often used in cementing and acid spotting operations.
A sequence valve is designed to hold a positive pressure inside the coiled tubing and
toolstring. The purpose is to allow control and placement of fluids in the well by preventing
free fall of the fluids out of the tubing in a well with a low bottom hole pressure which may lead
to collapse of the coiled tubing. Free fall of the fluids is likely when the well pressure is below
that of hydrostatic column of the fluids that will be pumped into the CT string. Alternatively the
valve may be used to allow positive pressure to be applied inside the coiled tubing whilst
running in hole in a high pressure well that might impose a collapse load on the coiled tubing.
The positive pressure differential is achieved by the valve system acting against a spring. In
the Hydrostatic Sequence Valve the spring is coiled steel. In the Nitrogen Charged Sequence
Valve the spring is a pre-charged nitrogen chamber.
These sequence valves contain stored compressive energy and must therefore be handled
with great care by fully trained personnel only.
The nitrogen charged sequence valve has a higher differential operating pressure rating than
the Hydrostatic Sequence Valve.
Any release or ball operated tool should be run above the sequence valve.
The sequence valve should not be confused with the Sequencing Valve (available from other
suppliers) as their function and purpose is entirely different.

Double Dart Check Valve
A Double Dart Check Valve is used on Coiled Tubing tool strings which are required to have a
slick, slim O.D. These types of strings are usually used for simple clean-out operations. The O.D.
is limited to the size of the coiled tubing being used.
The tool consists of two darts in tandem which allow flow from the coiled tubing to the annulus but
are pushed back onto their seats should there be any back flow. This prevents the well from
producing up the coiled tubing if there is a break in the coiled tubing at surface. Activation balls
cannot be pumped beyond the darts.
The BDK Double Dart Check Valve is available in the following diameters. The valve offers a safety
system that ensures against reverse flow within the coiled tubing. PEEK darts and spring returns on the
darts are available options.

The Double Flapper Check Valve (DFCV) is run on virtually all non-stiffwireline coiled
tubing operations. The Flappers prevent back flow from the well into the coiled tubing.
This is required as CT is used in live well operations and if there is a failure in the
tubing at surface, the well is prevented from flowing out through the CT by the closure
of the check valves.
Two flappers are used to ensure a double barrier. Flappers are held in the closed
position by a light duty coil spring on the hinge so that the valve closes even at low
pressure/flow differentials. The flappers are designed to allow the passage of balls to
activate tools lower in the toolstring. The DFCV is normally placed immediately below
the coiled tubing connector. Each flapper is part of a cartridge assembly and two
cartridges are installed into the body of the tool. The BJS DFCV features a bleed-off
port below the flappers so that any trapped pressures below the flapper can be
released prior to removal of the tools. Another design feature is the retaining nut which
holds the cartridges in place if the tool joint is backed off prior while there is still
pressure below the cartridge.
Prior to running in hole with the CT the DFCV must be pressure tested at both high and
low pressure. Each flapper should be tested independently. The 1-11/16" and 1-3/4"
will be available with O-ring style seat as soon as testing is complete.

Double Flapper Check Valve with BDK Cartridge
The Double Flapper Check Valve with BDK Cartridge is used on a tool string as a safety
precaution to prevent fluid flow up the tubing. This can be a critical component in a live
well where an open end at surface would allow the well to flow uncontrolled.
N.B. Specifying this tool with a BDK cartridge will approximately double the cost.

Vortex Nozzle
The Vortex Nozzle uses four tangentially offset nozzles and optionally, a downward jet to
produce a high powered vortex of fluid for the removal of muds, gels, waxes, asphaltenes,
light scales and filtercake. Jet velocities often exceed 140 m/sec (460 ft/sec). Vortex
rotational speeds at 8,000 rpm or more serve to entrain debris adding abrasion to the
mechanism of cleaning.

Bakke Release Tool & Fishing Spear
The Bakke Release Tool is a heavy duty ball operated tool designed to withstand torque
and load applications such as drilling. Large bores help to minimize pressure drops. To
release, a ball is pumped down the coiled tubing from surface. Once caught in the ball
seat, the pressure required to release depends on the number of shear pins installed in the
Bakke Tool (typically 1000 psi per shear pin). Ball sizes are ½”, ¾” and 1” respectively for
those listed below.
These tools are supplied nitrited for increased durability when ordered through Tool
Production.
Tensile and compressive loads are transmitted by the dogs, not the shear pins.
There should always be a Bakke Fishing Spear available when the Release Tool is run.
The Fishing Spear is not illustrated.

Kick-off Tool
The Kick-off Tool is used where there is a possibility of hanging up on gas lift mandrels or
other obstructions. When an obstruction is encountered, the Kick Off Tool rotates while
compressing and then slides off the obstacle. After a deflection, the tool resets to its original
running position and length.

Straight Bar
Standard Straight Bar
The purpose of a Straight Bar is to provide some centralization of downhole tools
because coiled tubing retains some residual curvature even after being
straightened by the injector chains. By giving the coiled tubing a straight section,
the Straight Bar, at the bottom of the coiled tubing or bottom hole assembly, it is
often easier to get past potential obstructions such as liner laps or gaslift
mandrels.
The outside diameter of the bar should be the same as the coiled tubing tool string
that is being used. Different threads are available upon request.
The straight bar is attached below the Check Valve and the Coiled Tubing End
Connector. One or two meter long sections of straight bar are often all that is
required to move past an obstruction. For an alternative, see the 'Kick Off Tool'.
The shearable Straight Bar is designed to be cut by standard Coiled Tubing BOPs.
They may be special ordered from Tool Production.

The Rod Clamp is used as a temporary non-damaging clamp while handling the Side view of hinge plates
tubing. It can be used in the injector while connecting the bottom hole assembly.
The holding force of a single clamp depends upon many factors. In general, it is
not safe to assume more than 2,500 lb. holding force per clamp.
The Snake Grapple Connector is used to stab coiled tubing into the injector head and
stuffing box. It is placed on the end of the coiled tubing, shown as the upper-most sleeve
in the picture.
After the tool is positioned inside the coiled tubing, a portion of the tool housing is rotated
to drive a wedge against a set of wickers which grip the internal surface of the coiled
tubing.
The tool contains a socket for a wire rope ferrule. A minimum of ½” cable is
recommended. The wire cable extends from the hole in the bottom of the tool through
the injector to a winch. The winch pulls the tubing into and through the injector.
After the coiled tubing is successfully stabbed, then the Snake Grapple Connector is
removed.
Precision Displacement Darts can be pumped ahead and behind a fluid, including slurries, to prevent
contamination of the fluid with the other fluids being pumped. The darts contain a rupture disc that is
triggered to burst at a predetermined pressure after the dart reaches a landing point in the bottom hole
assembly. Once the disc ruptures a bore of 12 or 16 mm is exposed to allow passage of activation balls,
if required.
The use of these darts gives a surface pressure indication of when the fluid has been displaced to the
end of the coiled tubing. This prevents such things as cement slurries from being over-displaced and,
therefore, becoming contaminated during placement.
The Precision Displacement Dart material is based on a nickel foil welded between stainless steel flanges
and with a nose and body encapsulated in polyurethane. They are shaped to provide a seal with the
tubing.
The 12mm standard version cement dart has a heavy nose which encourages the dart to keep head-
down in wider bore launch systems. A 1.25" nose is available upon special request.

The plug is held with a crosswire, whose thickness is given in the list and which
shears at the given pressure. Pigs are designed to nest into each other so that a
2500psi pig can follow a 1750psi pig and they will shear in known succession. These
pigs usually need a catcher for the plug.
These have only been made in the wire sizes indicated and for the coil tubing sizes
indicated. The list could be extended, but some preliminary work with thicker wires
suggests that it may be difficult to obtain consistent results.
For 156WT tubing, use the following. They use a reduced diameter centre to avoid sticking.
72thou wire 2500psi yellow TBA
64thou wire 1750psi green TBA
The Plug Catcher is run below the tubing end connector. The plug catcher stops
as many as three shearable portions of the plugs but allows a ball to pass around
the assembly to operate a release tool fitted with a small ball catcher.

The basic tool is the 1-3/4” size. Conversion kits allow for 2-1/8” or 2-7/8”
configurations and are available upon request. The 2-1/8” tool differs from
the 1-3/4” tool only in the strength of the housings, i.e., a larger diameter.
Flow handling capacity is the same.
The 2-7/8” tool permits jetting in larger completions where flow rates in
excess of 1-1/2 barrels per minute are required to circulate debris from the
well. Flow rates up to 3-1/2 barrels per minute are possible with the standard
2-7/8” tool. For higher flow rates contact Tool Production for a special bypass
sub.

Downhole Phase Separator
The Downhole Phase Separator is a tool for dividing gaseous and liquid phases in a
jetting or milling tool string downhole. As the co-mingled fluid passes through the inner
geometry of the tool liquid and gas phases are separated. Gas exits the tool string
above the jetting tool or motor, while the liquid continues down the tool string to provide
maximum hydraulic power.

Well-Vac
The Well-Vac has two important and very different purposes:
• Sand-Vac Mode for debris clean-out; and
• Well-Vac Mode for producing wellbore fluids
In Sand-Vac mode, the tool cleans vertical and horizontal wellbores of sand
and loose debris by fluidizing and entraining the material in the return flow
of a concentric coiled tubing (CCT) string. The Well-Vac has been carefully
designed to prevent cave-in or damage to the hole and filter-cake.
Power fluid is pumped down the internal string and returned up the annulus
between two coiled tubing strings. The Well-Vac creates a venturi effect at
the face of the tool as the fluid passes through a specially designed jet
pump and from the internal string to the annulus.
Tangential jets on the Well-Vac (2-1/2") swirl debris into forward and
backward moving slurries. The forward moving slurry maximizes travel
speed and minimizes the duration of the cleanout operation. The backward
slurry is pulled into suction ports and sent through the annulus between
strings, and out of the well.
The Well-Vac (3-3/4") has an external fluted sleeve that is shear pinned to
the interior body. When zinc alloy pins are sheared by over-pull or acidizing
the BHA becomes a flush profile & will be released. The 2-1/2" Well-Vac
is equipped with shear rings at the upper end of the tool. Aluminium rings
are used for releasing the tool from inner and outer strings upon an over-
pull or acidizing. Brass rings are used in acid work to prevent accidental
tool release.

Concentric Tubing Surface Connector
* not included
The Lateral Entry Guidance System (L.E.G.S.) provides a fast and easy method to enter
and stimulate all branches in a multiple-completion well. The L.E.G.S. tool locates and
steers coiled tubing into any branch of a multiple completion well using a special
methodology which circumvents any need for an electrical control or steering system. All
branches or sidetracks can be serviced in a single operation without returning to the surface
between runs.
Deflation is accomplished by a simple pulling action to open the latch valve, allowing the
element to deflate. The tool is then ready to be moved to the next treatment interval.
The Sequence Valve in the tool string stops U-tubing effects of fluids during placement.
Circulation is maintained while running in the hole or pulling out of the hole with continuous
communication between the top and bottom of the tool string to prevent swabbing while
moving the tool.
• Packer elements are rated for 20 inflations in 7” casing. The elements are rated to 280o F
(137o C).
• Minimum allowable retrieval diameter after inflations is 3.25”.
• Maximum differential squeeze pressure in 7” casing (liner) is 2,000 psi.
• Maximum flow (squeeze) rate is 2.5 bpm.
• Maximum set-down weight = 10,000 lbf.
The Universal Connect / Disconnect (UCD) is a quick connector for joining strings without
rotation. Threading is not involved in the connection so that tension, compression and torque
loads can be transmitted.
The UCD provides a hands-free, remote deployment capability, which is especially crucial
when used in live well operations. It is used during vertical deepenings, frac jobs and
perforating gun deployment.
The connection process is (1) pressure up the UCD, (2) stab the two halves of the UCD
together (torque keys self-align), and (3) release pressure, to lock the UCD halves together.
The disconnect process is (1) pressure up the UCD, (2) withdraw the two halves of the UCD,
and then (3) release pressure.
Bottom Sub
The Bakke Oil Tools Moto-head assembly contains dual flapper valves, a hydraulic
disconnect and a dual circulating sub.
The flapper cartridges have been tested by Bakke to 10,000 psi at 400 deg. F.
The heavy duty hydraulic disconnect provides heavy-duty rotation lock to withstand
vibration and high torque for long milling operations.
Bending of this tool will not affect the shear pin value as is the case with a collet type
tool.
Function Summary:
• mechanical connection from the coiled tubing connector to the wireline (logging) tools.
• Electrical connection through an electrical pressure bulkhead.
• Flow bypass for circulating well.
• Back pressure valve.
Circulation is often required during coiled tubing logging or perforating operations so the Stiff
Wireline Connector features circulation ports and a back-pressure valve. The back-pressure
valve is spring loaded and adjustable from 500 to 2,200 psi. This valve allows a positive internal
pressure to be held in the coiled tubing and also acts as a back-pressure valve to maintain well
control should there be a loss of pipe integrity at surface.
The tool includes an anchor sub which secures the logging cable and an electrical pressure
bulkhead sub where the logging cable is attached to conventional electric line pin connections.
A Tension Release Tool is usually connected below the Stiff Wireline Connector to provide an
emergency release mechanism (see page 91).
The Snap Latch tool enables fast rig-up of long logging tools to a wireline string. The Snap
Latch does not require rotation of an entire tool string because there is no threaded
connection.
Wireline (logging) tools connected beneath the Snap Latch can be rotated at will. The tools
can be disconnected only by rotating a collet retainer four turns and then pulling up.
The Snap Latch provides a quick mechanical and electrical connection between two parts of a
tool string. The Snap Latch can be especially useful when tool strings must be deployed a
section at a time because of length restrictions imposed by the lubricator.
A Tension Release Tool, described on the next page, is usually run with a Snap Latch for
emergency release.
For an alternative to the Snap Latch see the Universal Connect / Disconnect (UCD) on page
79.

The Tension Release Tool is usually placed below the Stiff Wireline Connector and above
the logging or perforating string. An electrical connection runs through the Tension Release
tool. An anti-rotation lug in the Tension Release Tool prevents rotation of the two halves' of
the tool to prevents breakage of the electrical connection. A 5,000 lb over-pull triggers a
release.
If the logging or perforating tool string becomes trapped in the well, the coiled tubing can be
retrieved by pulling on the Tension Release Tool to trigger release. A collet within the
Tension Release Tool moves against a stack of disc springs until release is achieved.
If the Tension Release Tool is disconnected, a 3/4" External Fishneck is left behind in the
hole. The tool can be re-latched later with a fishing string.
The Tension Release Tool is designed to absorb the shock from perforating operations and
can be used in highly deviated wells.
A proper job design takes into account both the tool string weight and frictional drag so that
the 5,000 lbf. release load is not inadvertently reached.

Bakke Flow Release Cable Head
The Bakke Flow Release Cable Head is used on CT e-line operations and is designed for
heavier duty than the Stiff Wireline Connector and TRT. The tool provides the following
functions;
a) Cable Anchor
b) Electrical Bulkhead
c) Fluid flow and back pressure check valves
d) Two Step toolstring release
e) Load is carried by heavy duty segments
The toolstring is released by pumping at a predetermined rate through the check valves and
exhaust orifice to generate a pressure inside the tool which forces a piston against a spring.
Once the piston has moved fully the segments are released and the tensile load is allowed to
come onto the shear pins. Final release is achieved by shearing the pins by either pulling on
the tool or continuing to increase the pump rate.
Contact Subs are part of the Stiff Wireline Connector. Specify your thread
requirements when ordering. The contact subs are shown in the same order
as they are listed in the chart below.

Bakke Wireline Pressure Bulkhead
The Bakke Wireline Pressure Bulkhead is used inside the Stiff Wireline Reel to
anchor the e-line cable, typically either a 7/16" or 3/8" Hepta Cable. The bulkhead
allows the cable to exit the reel and prevent fluids from leaking. The differential
pressure rating of this model is 5,000 psi. The bulkhead attaches to the CT via a
Fig. 1502 Weco Hammer Union.

The Orientation Tool is part of the coiled tubing directional drilling bottom
hole assembly. The function of the tool is to change the bottom hole
assembly Tool Face angle while drilling. Orienting can be achieved without
interrupting the drilling process. The Orientation Tool is an electric over
hydraulic system. It is operated at surface with the aid of a computer
controlled power supply.
The Orientation Tool also houses a circulating valve. The circulating valve
is a hydraulic device which, when closed, directs all circulating fluids to the
drill motor. When the valve is open the circulating fluids are directed to the
annulus allowing for more efficient hole cleaning using a patented process.

Downhole Pressure/Temperature Memory Unit
This robust Downhole Pressure/Temperature Memory Unit operates in
environments up to 70 MPa in pressure and 150oC in temperature, under high
gravitational loading.
The unit has a memory capacity for 500,000 samples and comes with software
to setup and program the tool. Sampling rates are from 1 second to several
hours.
The small, long-life lithium battery provides many hours of tool operation. The
estimated battery life is calculated by the software. Battery life is dependant
upon downhole temperature, sampling rate and battery manufacture. At an
extreme, battery life can be more than 100 hours while sampling once per
second and at extreme operating conditions such as 150oC downhole
temperature.
Tools which can incorporate use of this tool include: the Roto-Jet, Well-Vac,
Lateral Entry Guidance System and in BJ horizontal drilling strings.
The following tools can accommodate the unit with a corresponding letter (see
Tool column).

Well Construction Equipment
The Side Entry Sub anchors a parasite injection string onto casing. The casing string is
landed and cemented into place. Gas can then be injected into the returning mud
column to facilitate further underbalanced drilling of the next hole section.
An aluminum pump-out plug seals the port during run-in and cementing. When drilling
resumes the port is opened by pressuring up the parasite string to pump-out the plug. If
necessary, acidizing the shear pin will ensure removal of the plug, and opening of the
port.
The coil tubing / Side Entry Sub connection can be pressure tested prior to running in the
hole.
Due to the need to match the casing grade, this item is special order only.
