SMME’s sector for the past three years, however the founder has been in the sector for 10 years.
The founder has done BD with SEDA in Gauteng as well as North West. He has worked with
business development agencies such as NYDA as well GEP. The main focus being business plans,
Marketing Plans and Strategies, Feasibility studies, etc..

Joshua Makena is the founder and Director of GrowthPlatform Advisory Services. Joshua has
worked with big consulting houses including EOH, KPMG, Accenture and Deloitte. He has
project managed major scale projects such as SAP implementations streams, Shared Services
and Finance Transformation projects both in government and the private sector.
Joshua’s specific functional skills include: Project management, risk management, strategic
and corporate change, organisational restructuring, process improvement (re-engineering),
shared services design and implementation, training, and change management. Some of the
companies he has consulted in are Transnet, PRASA, Denel Group, Unemployment Insurance
Fund, National Development Agency, Anglo American, SAB Miller, Debswana Mining
Company and Standard Bank South Africa.
Joshua combines both practical experience and academic training: He completed a BCom
(Acc) Hons degree from the University of KwaZulu Natal after which he completed three years
of Articles with KPMG. At present he is studying towards a Master of Commerce degree in
Financial Management with the University of Johannesburg.

Pilate Moyo is a Founder and Managing Director at Umzansi Consulting responsible for
strategy development and planning. Pilate is a respected business consultant focusing
specifically on the development of SMMEs. He has worked both in government and the private
sector. He has been contracted by various companies on an independent basis to carry out a
number of projects including research, strategy development, business plan development and
training to name just a few.
He has also researched and lectured in the fields of marketing, economics, statistics, business
management, international trade and transportation. In addition to his Economics degree,
Pilate holds a number of diplomas and certificates including a Diploma in Marketing and a
Diploma in Strategic Management.
