The palatal aspect of the maxillary first premolar tapers towards the palatal side, with the palatal cusp being narrower than the buccal cusp. The palatal cusp is smooth and spherical tapering to a pointed tip formed by the meeting of the distal and mesial slopes at a 90 degree angle. The mesial and distal outlines of the palatal crown are convex, with the cervical line being regular and curved slightly towards the root.

The Palatal Aspect
First Pre Molar
On the palatal aspect of the maxillary fist premolars it’s the reverse of the gross outline of it’s buccal aspect, whereby…
• The crown tapers toward the
palatal aspect, since this cusp is narrower mesiodistally as compared to the buccal cusp.
• The palatal cusp is
smooth and spheroidal from the cervical portion to the area near the cusp tip. • The cusp tip is pointed, with distal and mesial slopes meeting at an angel of about 90 degrees.
•The mesial and distal outlines of
the palatal portion of the crown are convex.
•The cervical line is regular, with
slight curvature toward the root and crest of curvature centered on the root. • With the palatal portion of the crown narrower than that of the buccal aspect it is possible to see part of the mesial and distal surfaces of the crown and root. • Since the palatal cusp is not as long as the buccal cusp, the tips of both cusps wit their mesial and distal slopes maybe seen from this aspect.
• The palatal portion of the
root when bi-rooted is smooth and convex in all points. The End Thanks for Listening…
