Rostan ends final round

Ending the 2016 season,
Rostan was classified by the
NCAA as the 8th all-time
coach in all divisions based
on wins. For NCAA Division
III, he stands 4th all-time by
the amount of wins.
As of now, Rostan stands
341-196 as an overall record,
with a record of 301-171
at H-SC. He was been the
National Coach of the Year in
1989 and 1998. Additionally,

The 2016 season has been a

special, sentimental time for
the lacrosse team at Hampden-Sydney College (H-SC)
because head coach Ray
Rostan will be retiring after
the season comes to a close.
Rostan has been the head
coach at H-SC for 32 years
and only the third in the
teams history.
Physically and mentally,
I believe that I could coach
another 10 years, yet this will
be a good juncture to step

Athletic Conference (ODAC)

Coach of the Year four different times. Hes led the Tigers
to seven NCAA appearances
and four ODAC Championships.
Most recently, in December, Rostan was presented
the Frenchy Julien Service
Award from the United States
Intercollegiate Lacrosse
Association for a lifetime of
successful contribution and
commitment to the sport.
Rostan said, I am so fortunate to have had the

PE flies past Central

The undefeated Prince Edward

County High School boys soccer
team handed host Central Lunenburg High School a 9-1 defeat on
Monday.
The Eagles featured four different goal-scorers and were led by
junior Alex Moller, who scored
five times.
He brought a lot of energy,
Prince Edward coach Devin
Pierce said. He brought the
energy that our team lacked.
I made a couple good runs,
said Moller, who is from Germany and a student in the
foreign exchange program.
Despite the lopsided score,
Pierce saw much room for
improvement in his teams play,
which he called lazy.
When Prince Edward took on
the Chargers in mid-March, the
Eagles won 10-0.
Outside of Moller, the rest of
Prince Edwards goal tally came
from junior Craig Burns, who
added two, and senior Brady Atkins and sophomore Rafael Diaz,
who scored one apiece. Diaz
goal was the first of his varsity
career.
The Eagles improved to 9-0
with the win, continuing to find
success after an impressive 2015

season in which they won the
district, won the conference and
advanced to the regional semifinals before falling to the eventual
state champion, George Mason
High School.
The Chargers (0-10) visit

Buckingham County High School
on Wednesday. Prince Edward
(8-0) hosted Cumberland County
High School on Tuesday and
hosts Bluestone High School on
Thursday.

LANCERS TROT PAST NORFOLK STATE, 13-5
Alex Lewis led a quartet of Lancers with multi-hit
games as Longwood University knocked off Norfolk
State University, 13-5, sweeping the season series
Tuesday at Marty L. Miller Field.
A new look to the lineup for Longwood (24-18, 8-7 Big
South) resulted in immediate returns for the Lancers
as they struck for a pair in the top of the first inning
and never trailed at Norfolk State (20-17, 13-4 MEAC).
Longwood outhit Norfolk State 12-5 in the win. The
seven-hit advantage was the largest difference in hits
for Longwood in a win this season.
Connar Bastaich, Lewis, Sammy Miller and Brandon
Harvell each had multiple hits for the Lancers.
Tyler Wirsu (1-1) was a winner for the first time at
Longwood and picked up his second quality start of
the season.
Longwood returns to conference play with a weekend series at Presbyterian that begins Friday. First
pitch at the PC Baseball Complex.

The Hampden-Sydney golf team placed fourth in

the ODAC Championship, finishing 62 over par which
was one stroke behind third place finisher Virginia
Wesleyan (+61) and three strokes behind second place
Guilford (+59). Washington and Lee won the event at 47
over par.
Parker Smith (Warrenton/Fauquier) paced the team
while tying for fifth individually. Smith shot rounds of
79, 72 and 78 to finish 13 over par. Alex Simmons (Charlottesville/Albemarle) was four strokes off Smith, using
rounds of 74, 78 and 81 to tie for 12th.
Jamie Agnew (Fairfax/Flint Hill School) and Aaron
Persily (Charleston, W.Va./Charleston Catholic) each
tied for 18th at 19 over par; Agnew shot 78, 78 and 79,
and Persily shot 81, 75 and 79.
Austin Fockler (Richmond/St. Christophers) rounded
out the group with a 29th place finish, using rounds of
81, 85 and 75 to shoot 25 over par.

MY START: I came to Fuqua, and they just
said, Were starting a new program. Its
called lacrosse. Id never even heard of it
until I came here. So I said, Alright, Ill give
it a try. I just fell in love with it.
FAVORITE SPORTS MOVIE: Thats a

tough one. I like Facing the Giants. Thats
a football movie. Just the life lessons it
teaches you, a deep message and its
football.
MY INSPIRATION: Craig Rogers really

helped me. He played for UNC a while
back. Hes an old guy. He used to coach
here when it first started, and he really got
me into it, and I think hes the reason I still
play.
HOW I WOULD DESCRIBE MY TEAM:

Small. We have (players) from 12th grade
to eighth.
YEARS AS A LACROSSE PLAYER: This
is the fifth year (I have played).
