This lesson is the fourth lesson in unit 7: All About Moon phases Why do you see phases of the moon? This
lesson will cover the phases of the moon by doing the experiment which contain observe the moon from
different sides to identify the its phase.

Teaching goal (State clearly what it is you plan to teach in this lesson

The overall aim of the lesson is to teach what are the phases of the moon that happens because of the
sunlight changing directions by doing a nice experiment after they remember the meaning of words ( moon
phase, first quarter, new moon, third quarter).

Learning objectives (State clearly exactly what you want the ss to be able to do by the end of
the lesson.

Students will be able to make a model and observe phases of the moon using materials ( black covered
box with holes, flash lighter tennis ball,).

Assumptions about prior learning (Mention what the ss know from previous lessons or their
experience eg The learners will have encountered or be familiar with or aware of...)
Students may know the shape and the names of the moon phases.
Students may have knowledge about sun, how it affects on making the moon phases.

Anticipated problems and possible solutions (Mention problems and solutions related to
management, tasks or students
Abdullrahman always lose his attention and get busy with other things the teacher will keep calling
his name to catch his attention.
Naser did not understand how to do the experiment the teacher will ask someone who understand to
explain for his.
Mariam did not know what she has to do.. Teacher will give her instructors to know, and ask her
group to cooperate with their friend
Mahrah is very shy and she do not talk with other .... The teacher do a good reinforcement to
encourage them such as. " Sarah is a good speaker "
Personal focus for this lesson (Based on your previous observed lesson, identify one or two
aspects that need improving. Eg. be more animated, monitor children more closely, provide
more challenging tasks etc)
I will focus to encourage Mahrah to be confidence .
I am going to focus on time management . I only have 40 min to deliver this lesson .
I will focus on Mohammed to give him some duties like distribute the materials to the groups as he is
hyperactive.

The teacher will start the class by asking them about the moon .

T: Hello my lovely students. How are you today?


Ss: Fine thank you.
T: will show them a picture of the moon on its different phases
T: who can tell me , have you ever seen the moon in the night sky when it looked like on of the pictures here ?
S : yes, I once saw the moon when it looked like a full circle, similar to the last picture here.
T: well done. Now who can come here and remind us the phases of these moon? .. Azza come
S: this is first quarter and this full moon
Teacher will engage the students to the lesson by show them the pictures that relate to the topic
of the lesson.
She will open the PowerPoint
in slides which include pictures ( pictures for moon phases, sun and the change of the moon
phases ).
T: What do you see in the picture? Raise your hand please.
S: Sun.
T: what do you see also?
S: moons.
T: excellent.
T: I will sign on each phase and you will read the name of the phase loudly for me, okay, togather
She will ask them to repeat the word first quarter , new moon, third quarter and full moon and
she will tell them the meaning of each one
to be like a remembering for them
T: say together.. full moon
Ss: full moon
T: full moon means the phase of the moon in which its whole disc is illuminated
Ss: full moon.


T: say together first quarter .. means phase of the Moon fifty percent of it is illuminated and visible from the
Earth.
Ss: first quarter.
T: say together third quarter .. means The moon is one-half illuminated by the sun.

T: last word is new moon. Say together new moon


Ss: new moon
T: do you remember what is the meaning of the new moon ?
S: time at which the moon is in conjunction with the sun, when it is not visible from the earth.
T: Excellent .. I want one sentence that relate to these phases.
Students will think and they will raise their hand to answer question.
T: So, today Inshallah we will know about how does the sun affect on making these phases by applying the
experiment?
Are you excited to know how?
Ss: yes.

Explore

The teacher will discuss with the whole class about the experiments' materials, ad each one
what does it represent.
Lesson description:
Students are going to see the materials and respond to their teacher .

Materials:
Black covered box with holes
Flash lighter
Tennis ball
T : what do the ball present?
Ss: the moon
T: what does the black area means?
Ss: night sky
T: the flash lighter, it present what?
Ss: the sun

Explain

Procedure:

1.
The teacher will choose a leader for each group to guide their colleagues and to explain for them the
experiment.
2.
She will give to each group the materials with the instructions card.
( instruction card) include the steps on their science book, page 302

Elaborate

To check if the students understand the lesson or not. Teacher will give them to solve page 303 that include
questions about did they observed.

Evaluate

The last 10 minutes of the lesson. Teacher will give to each peer of students a big white card and colors
to make a graphic organizer about what did they learn. After they finish, they will put at the back of
their classroom.
