    Artifact Rational: Educational Achievement Report
    Through the process of developing the a Educational
    Achievement Report (EAR), I was able to develop competency in the
    ability to administer, score, and interpret a standardized, formal,
    educational achievement test in order to make appropriate educational
    recommendations to promote student achievement. The EAR related to
    the Council for Exceptional Childrens (CEC) standards 1,4, and 6.
    CEC standard 1: Learner Development and Individual Differences
    requires special education professionals to understand how
    exceptionalities may interact with development and learning and
    use this knowledge to provide meaningful and challenging learning
    experiences for individuals with exceptionalities. The potential
    impact of differences in values, languages, and customs that can exist
    between the home and school has also been accounted for. The
    importance of acting ethically in advocating for appropriate services is
    made paramount throughout the psycho-educational assessment
    process.
    CEC standard 4: Assessment requires multiple methods of
    assessment and data-sources in making educational decisions.
    Assessment was addressed throughout EAR using pre, formative and
    summative assessments to diagnose, monitor and document student
    progress. I found the highlighted standard to be relevant and in-step

    with the psycho-educational assessment process. It offered me a


    greater knowledge of some of the models, theories and philosophies
    that form the basis for special education practice. I really wasnt
    looking forward to the student/parent interviews at first but after all
    was said and done I now have a deeper appreciation for family systems
    and the role of families in the educational process.
    CEC standard 6: Professional Learning and Ethical Practices.
    This standard was related through my use of foundational
    knowledge of the field of Visual Arts and the my professional Ethical
    Principles and Practice Standards to employ special education
    practice, engage in lifelong learning, and to advance the
    profession. Throughout this process, I learned a lot about my teaching
    methods and myself. In the future I plan to take what Ive learned
    about the psycho-educational assessment process and build on it by
    continuing to take professional development courses, which focus on
    assessment.
    In developing the Educational Achievement Report, I was able to
    expand my understanding of Special Education, specifically,
    assessment. Throughout this process, I learned a lot about my teaching
    methods and myself. In the future I plan to take what Ive learned
    about the psycho-educational assessment process and build on it by
    continuing to take professional development courses, which focus on
    assessment. As a fine arts teacher my assessments generally consist

    of problems, which students solve visually. Since administering the


    WJIII I have noticed a need to implement more written element into my
    assessments. I have come to the realization that even though my
    classes are visual in nature, students may benefit as much if not more
    from being prompted to explain their work in a written expression.
