Reflective Analysis of Portfolio Artifact

Rationale/Reflection
NAEYC Standard:
STANDARD 6. BECOMING A PROFESSIONAL
Candidates prepared in early childhood degree programs identify and conduct themselves as members of the
early childhood profession. They know and use ethical guidelines and other professional standards related to
early childhood practice. They are continuous, collaborative learners who demonstrate knowledgeable,
reflective and critical perspectives on their work, making informed decisions that integrate knowledge from a
variety of sources. They are informed advocates for sound educational practices and policies. NAEYC, 2010)

Brief Description of Evidence:

During the spring semester of 2014 during my ECED 235-Preschool Practicum course, during the
summer semester of 2014 during my ECED 243: Cognitive Curriculum-hybrid course and during the fall
semester of 2014 during my ECED 260-Early Childhood Professional course I had several opportunities to
corroborate and learn from individuals in the field of early childhood education, safety and development.
Among these many examples are: How to use a Sensory Diet, Autism Awareness, The Importance of
Curriculum and the Environment, Child Abuse Detection and Prevention, as well as Aspects of Child
Mistreatment.

Analysis of What I Learned:

By participating in these seminars, I learned how to identify and conduct myself as a member of the
early childhood profession. And during the process of listening to those more experienced than myself, I
learned how the use of ethical guidelines and other professional standards relate to the early childhood
practice. I was also able to network and gain professional connections with members of the early childhood
field.

How This Artifact Demonstrates my Competence on the NAEYC Standard:

By participating in these workshops and webinars I have demonstrated my competence on this standard by
showing continuous collaborative efforts are a must for an early childhood professional. And, through these
experiences, I am able to demonstrate knowledgeable, reflective and critical perspectives, and make informed
decisions that integrate knowledge from a variety of sources.
