HISTORY
o1905, William Pigott, Sr. founded Seattle Car Mfg. Co. to produce railway and logging equipment at
its plant in West Seattle. The Company later merged with Twohy Brothers of Portland to become Pacific
Car and Foundry Company
oWilliams son Paul, expanded the company and its line of products to include Carco power winches
oThe Company entered the heavy-duty truck market in 1945 with its first major acquisition, Kenworth
Motor Truck Company of Seattle
oPacific Car and Foundry greatly expanded its heavy-duty truck capability with the purchase of Peterbilt
Motors Company in 1958
o1960 the company became an international manufacturer
o1972 Pacific Car and Foundry Company came to be known as Paccar
o1973 two divisions were created, Paccar International and Paccar Parts
o1996 they acquired DAF Trucks out of the Netherlands
o1998 they acquired Leyland Trucks out of England
oToday, PACCAR is a global technology leader in the design, manufacture and customer support of highquality light-, medium and heavy-duty trucks under the Kenworth, Peterbilt and DAF nameplates
PHILANTHROPY
oPACCAR has made $160 million in grants around the world for education, social services, and the arts to enrich
the communities in which its employees live and work.
oPACCAR donated Kenworth trucks to support the Swedish Hospital Mobile Mammography Clinic that provides
care to Washington State's underserved areas
oPACCAR supports Landesa, an organization that works with governments in emerging markets such as India and
China to improve the property rights of poor farmers. When farmers own the land they work, productivity
increases, reducing hunger and poverty.
ENVIROMENT
oEnvironmental responsibility is one of PACCARs core values. The company regularly develops new programs to help
protect and preserve the environment and PACCAR has established ambitious goals to further reduce emissions and
enhance fuel efficiency in its truck models.
