    The Berlin Wall was built in 1961 by the Communist government of East Germany to stop people from escaping to West Berlin and West Germany. It was 168 km long and made of concrete and wire fences up to 3 meters high with signal systems and mines along the border. After the reunification of Germany in 1990, most of the Berlin Wall was demolished but some sections remain as museums. The wall had severely restricted travel between East and West for nearly 30 years until its fall began in November 1989, after which East Germany adopted West Germany's currency and the two countries were reunited.

    Berlin Wall Separating East and West Germany


    About 168 km long, the berlin wall was built to separate the city of berlin in
    Germany to stop people escaping form the eastern half of Berlin to western
    Berlin. When the Germany split into west and east. The majority of German
    people started to go to west germy from the East Germany in order to stop
    this trend and to keep countrys people in, the Communist government of
    East Germany decided to build a wall which separates the East and West
    Berlin in Aguste 1961. While the Soviet and East Germany believed that this
    wall was built to keep the capitalism out. They said, as the West Germany
    refused to recognize East Germany as an independent country because they
    wanted to take over North-East Germany Just like Hitler. The official purpose
    of this Berliner wall was to keep wester Fascist from entering East Germany.
    And undermining the socialist state.

    The berlin wall was made of concrete and wire fences about two to three
    meters high. Had signaling system in the floor, which would cause an alarm
    to be sounded when touched. The borders between East Germany and West
    Germany was heavily defended with fences and mines. East Germans
    needed a special permit to live close to the border

    After the reunification of Germany in October 3. 1990, the berlin wall was
    demolished and taken away. A few sections of the wall remain and became
    museum now. One of the sections has turned into one of the worlds biggest
    street art exhibitions today.

    East Germany differed from the West Germany. As the West Germanys
    economic grew, and it standard of living improved, many East Germans
    wanted to move to West Germany. The East Berlin police who guarded the
    wall was gevin the right to shoot people at the time of fleeing. People were
    no longer able to leave. Despite that; people used different ways of escaping
    East Germany and entering West Germany by digging long tunnels under the
    wall, waiting for the winds and taking air balloons o eliding along aerial wires.
    The fall of the berlin wall began on November 1989. People were using
    different tool in order to get rid of the wall. After fall of the wall east germany
    adopted the West Germany currency, both became united. While; still years
    after reunification, people in Germany talk about the cultural differed
    between east and West Germans and a specific group of people are unhappy
    about the fall of the wall.
