The clean air act was passed in 1973 and amended in 1970
A law made to protect human health and the environment
from air pollution
The clean air act programs have shown that protecting
public health and building the economy can go hand and
hand
The clean air act have lowered levels of six common
pollutants- particles, ozone, lead, carbon monoxide, nitrogen
dioxide
THE CLEAN WATER ACT
The primary law in the US that governs

water pollution
Establishes the structure for regulating
water pollution and standards for surface
waters
Made in 1948 and expanded in 1972
Gave the EPA the authority to implement
pollution control programs such as
wastewater standards
ENVIRONMENTAL VIOLATIONS
Smoke or other emissions from local industrial facilities

Improper treatment, storage, or disposal of hazardous wastes
Unpermitted dredging or filing of waters and wetlands
Any unpermitted industrial activity
Late-night dumping or any criminal activity including
falsifying reports or other documents
COMPANIES VIOLATION
TO THE ACTS(BP)
On April
20, 2010, The BP oil spill took place in the Gulf of Mexico.
BP violated The Clean Water Act because Thousands of gallons of
oil was spilled into the ocean.
Over the course of 87 days, the damaged Macondo wellhead leaked
an estimated 3.19 million barrels (over 130 million gallons) of oil
into the Gulf of Mexico
What the company did wrong was they didnt take the necessary
steps to prevent an oil spill and ignored the possibility of the gulf
oil spill.

protect public health and safety.
Review FEMA evaluations of offsite emergency preparedness.
Make decisions on the overall state of emergency preparedness,
such as issuing of nuclear power plant operating licenses or taking
enforcement actions (e.g., violations, civil penalties, orders, or
shutdown of operating reactors).

Columbia Gas 'failure to post the notices of the

a serious threat to transparency in the market,
and may have compromised the Commissions
open-access transportation requirements.
This violated part 4 of the General Terms and
Conditions of its FERC gas Tariff.
INTERNATIONAL NUCLEAR VIOLATION
Kewaunee nuclear power plant issued violation

April 5, 2013
NRC inspectors said the plant failed to identify the
loss of an indicator to monitor system and effluent
parameters for accurately classifying and declaring a
general emergency and a site area emergency.
