Aztecs

Teotihubalubahub was a Meso-American city that was


located in the sub valley of the valley of Mexico. This site
is very significant because it houses the most architecturally
significant pyramids ever found. This was so significant
because it was the largest city in South America and also
gave us a better understanding of the Aztecs.

The Aztecs settled in the valley of Mexico and began top


create a massive civilization fueled by fertile soil,
accessible resources, and natural protection. This is
where they created Teotihuacan and other such cities.

The Aztecs believed in over 1000 individual gods, but the


main one was named Quetzalcoatl, who appeared in
many forms, such as the god of books, learning, wind,
death, and re-birth. The Aztecs practiced their religion in
elaborate ceremonies that were held in a public place,
such as a pyramid or temple, and were meant to
communicate with their gods. The priests would make

Sacrifice pt 1

The most important rituals were held for the sun god,
Huitzilopochtli. They believed that he battled every night
to get to the next day, and he needed human blood to stay
strong. They also believed that if they did not sacrifice
humans that the world would be plunged into darkness.
Thousands of slaves and prisoners hearts were cut out on
the steps of the great temple because of these beliefs.

Montezuma was a Emperor of the Aztecs in 1502 AD. He


was not a very good emperor, and his rule considerably
weakened the empire. His reign was marked by incessant
warfare, and he called for more human sacrifices.

Montezuma II pt:1

When Hernn Corts arrived in Mexico he was thus able


to gain native allies, notably in the province of the
Tlaxcala. Montezuma, believing the Spanish to be
descendants of the god Quetzalcoatl, tried to persuade
them to leave by offering rich gifts. That failing, Corts
later seized him as a hostage and attempted to govern
through him. In June, 1520, the Aztec rose against the
Spanish. Montezuma was killed, although whether by the
Spanish or the Aztec is not certain.
