Health & Physical Education

Syllabus
2015-2016 School Year

Physical education is a sequential education program that concentrates on developing and


maintaining each students overall fitness and provides students with the knowledge, skills,
abilities, and attitudes to lead a healthy lifestyle.

Program Objectives:
1. Optimal skill development in each activity
2. Develop and maintain physical fitness
3. Increase knowledge of health and skilled-related physical fitness, the effects
of exercise on the body, and the rules/strategy involved in each activity

Physical Education Dress Code:

The NECP Physical Education uniform consists of the following:


o T-shirt: Any Color (NO sleeveless, tank tops, or cut off shirts allowed)
o Shorts/Sweatpants:
o Shoes: Closed toe, athletic tennis shoes
Shoes that are NOT acceptable: spiked shoes, boots, slip-ons,
sport sandals, flip flops, UGG boots, TOMS, and tennis shoes
without the laces
Students who are not in the proper uniform will not be able to earn points for
the day
Students must have a change of clothes for Physical Education Class (Gym
clothes may not be pulled over your Regular Clothes that is NOT
ACCEPTABLE and you will receive NO Credit for changing that day)

Classroom Policies:

No cell phone usage in the gym at any time.


No GUM, food, or drinks will be allowed in the gymnasium.
No Jewelry
Students have 7 minutes to change and report to the gymnasium.
All valuables should be left in the locker room or given to the teachers. The
locker rooms will be locked and we will place the valuable box in the PE office.
Students must follow all class safety procedures and rules.
Students are expected to participate to the best of their ability.
Students are expected to use the equipment properly and as instructed.
Students found damaging school equipment or property will be liable to
repair or replace it.

Students may not open the gymnasium doors or leave until the bell rings.
Any student who leaves early will receive a disciplinary referral.

Absences/Illness/Injuries/Make-Up Work:

It is the STUDENTS RESPONSIBILITY to make-up all written and skill tests.


o EXCUSED absences including field trips, visitations, sickness, and prearranged meetings need to be made up to receive credit.
Format of class make-ups are determined on an individual basis and should
be arranged with the teacher.
If the student is injured and provides a doctors note, the student and teacher
will arrange a course of action to make up the days missed due to the
medical restrictions.

Physical Education Grading System:

Participation Students will receive 10 points each day for active


participation (5pts) and dressing out (5pts)
o The following actions will result in point deductions from this unit
grade:
Non-participation
Violation of safety
Unprepared (not in
or classroom rules

Unsportsmanlike
proper dress code)
Unexcused
conduct
Profanity
absence
Tardiness
Inappropriate
behavior

Written Assessments (Quizzes & Tests) Will vary by unit and skill sets
Tests will include information covered daily in class and on various
sheets given out throughout the unit
All information will be located on our class website
Projects Will be alternated with Quizzes & Tests
Students will be given options per project and must select one to
complete
