Assessment:
The teacher will collect the questionnaire filled out by the students at the end of class.
This questionnaire can be assessed in numerous ways; firstly, the teacher can check for
completion. Secondly, the questionnaire could be assessed for quality of answers.
The teacher will furthermore circulate the classroom during the lesson in order to make
sure that all learners are on task and that questions can be answered (checking for
participation and understanding).
Activities:
1. Attendance & Greeting (5 min)
a. Record student attendance and greet class
2. Instructional Time (35 min)
a. The teacher will shortly go over responses to homework given. The question was
What technology do your family members use on their job?
b. Students will be asked to choose among 5 technology related careers that they
wish to explore (5 students per group). The options are Pilot, Journalist, Chef,
Doctor and Soldier.
i. The teacher will have set up appealing stations (gallery style) of
different professions at tables (this will work best if tables are arranged for
group work). Each station will contain basic information on the career and
how it uses technology.
c. As students familiarize themselves with the content, they are asked to fill out
different questionnaires to find the most pertinent information for the chosen
career. The teacher may also wish depending on accessibility of internet and
resources to ask students to conduct some of their own research on the chosen
profession.
i. Each student will receive a different section to work on, for the
questionnaire, as this will promote engagement of all learners.
d. After the information has been collected, students are asked to share aspects of
what they have learned during their research that they might have found
surprising.
3. Wrap-Up & Reflection (5 min)
a. The teacher collects the questionnaires to assure completion.
b. Students are encouraged to see the teacher for clarifications or questions
Differentiation:
Sections of the handouts and questionnaires used for this lesson can be adapted to meet
the needs of all learners. Since each student is going to work on a different section of the
questionnaire, the teacher can provide students with specific questions. Students that
havent finished their questionnaire are encouraged to come in for 10 minutes during
lunch hour to work on it. Since this is group work, specific students can be grouped with
accommodating class mates to enhance their learning experience.
