    Sperling's experiments tested the duration of visual sensory memory, known as iconic memory. Participants were briefly shown a grid of letters and their ability to recall the letters with full or partial cues was measured. Results found that participants could recall more letters with partial cues, supporting Sperling's theory that iconic memory stores a brief visual image but decays within a second. Partial report tests where participants were cued to only report some letters helped access this brief visual memory store.
