NAME AND HISTORY

The Basic Education Sector Reform Agenda (BESRA) has inspired the
Local Government of the municipality of Bacong to actively and positively design a
proposal to create Public High school at Barangay Buntod, Bacong, Negros
Oriental. Knowing full well that Buntod is a strategic barangay where Education
For All (EFA) goal of the Department of Education can hit to access all elementary
graduates of Buntod Elementary School and to nearby feather elementary
schools, the barangay officials of barangay Buntod, headed by barangay captain,
Hon. Cosme Tanio has passed a resolution through Sangguniang Bayan who
simultaneously submit the same resolution for the establishment of Public High
School in the barangay in May 2008.
To signify the significant place of the establishment, barangay Buntod
is used to name the school. Thus, the school is named as BUNTOD HIGH SCHOOL.
The first year of operation was run by the school principal of Buntod
Elementary School where the school is ever grateful of the working hands of Mrs.
Peregrina D. Buenavista and Mr. Fidel M. Pino. The pioneer teachers whose
passion is measured doing the task beyond the call of duty in time and it nature
other than teaching in the school were Mrs. Giselle T. Manota, Mrs. Emelyn V.
Austero and Mr. Melecio V. Montegrejo On the following next three consecutive
school years (SY:2009-2010, 2010-2011, 2011-2012) was run effectively through
hardwork of Mrs. Margie A. Sastrillo where there were two additional regular
teachers added. They were Mr. Erwin I. Tindoc and Mrs. Marie Antoniette I.
Jamaro. Last January 2013 to present, the school is headed by the Teacher-In-
Charge, Mrs.Ma.Georgina I.Donio.
The creation of year level is gradually processed each year. School

year of operation where the school successfully

Graduation Exercises.
Buntod High School is a growing school comparatively shown in the
School Report Card.It has been supported by the PTA since the First PTA
Federated President,Mrs.Hazel P.Sardan to present, barangay Captain,Hon.Cosme
V.Tanio and its barangay officials and other cooperative stakeholders both
Government and NGO Government Organizations. Mayor Hon.Lenin P.Alviola
together with Vice Mayor,Hon.Alexander T. Tuballa and to all Sangguniang Bayan
Members always take the lead in supporting the school.
TYPE OF SCHOOL
Buntod High School is a public high school that caters all types of learners who
have satisfactorily completed the requirements of Basic Elementary Education. It
is a school implementing K to 12 curriculum whose objectives inspire the
learners end.
COMMUNITY PROFILE
Demographic Information

Buntod High School is located in the Municipality of Bacong specifically in
Barangay Buntod, 7 kilometers from the town proper. Bacong is on the
southeastern coast of Negros Island in Negros Oriental and is the first town
located 8 kilometers south of Dumaguete City. It is bounded by the City of
Dumaguete on the north; Valencia on the West; Mindanao on the East; and the
Municipality of Dauin on the South.
The town has a total land area of 4, 207.5 hectares, and a population of
23,781 (2000) consisting of 22 barangays.


Geography

Barangay Buntod is the biggest barangay in the Municipality of Bacong. The
area is relatively flat and the terrain rises gently until it reaches Barangay
Timbanga. The area is planted commonly with corn and other vegetation. The
newly opened school is located in this barangay serving the children of Barangay
Buntod itself and the neighboring barangays that serves as boundaries like
Barangays Doldol at the East, Timbanga in the West, Calangag to the North and
Libjo to the South which is already part of the Municipality of Dauin.


Socio- cultural

Barangay Buntod celebrates their fiesta every 11
th
day of February in honor
of the Patron Saint, Our Lady of Lords. A lot of devotees from different walks of
life visit this place to worship and honor Mama Mary. The barangay is also
working hand in hand with the school for activities like parade, beauty pageant,
games, etc. Other festive occasions are also observed like the celebrations of
saints, holy week, May flower festivities, Leon Kilats Day. The school has its
prepared monthly activities to develop the students sense of responsibility and
belongingness.


The barangays political composition is headed by a barangay captain in the
person of Hon. Cosme V. Tanio together with barangay councilmen. The barangay
has six (6) puroks namely; Purok Cacao, Purol Lubi, Purok Mangga, Purok Chicos,
Purok Saging and Purok Kawayan.

The barangay has a total of 392 households and the entire population
based on the 2007 census is 1, 982.

E c o n o mi c C o n d i t i o n

Barangay Buntods main source of income is farming. The other people are
engaged in business like selling and buying livestocks in Malatapay, Zamboaguita
while others survive through the provision of labor force during planting and
harvesting season of corn and other farm products, selling firewood and selling of
TORTA which is the native delicacy of the barangay.
