HISTORICAL BACKGROUND

The founding of Mabini National High School gave answer to the eight (8) kilometers risky walk

of Brgy. Mabini students to Brgy. Mat-I and Brgy. Anomar were the nearest High School are located to

have formal education. The birth of Mabini National High School was realized through the joint effort of

former Brgy. Captain Greco B. Daro, Mrs. Leonevee S. Botero, the former School Principal of Mat-I

National High School and Mrs. Sylvia A. Torrecampo, the former school head of Kaningag Elementary

School. They worked hand in hand in doing house to house survey to gather and convinced target

clientele. Fortunately, last School Year 2010-2011 they were able to convince 32 students to be the

pioneering class of Mabini National High School. During its first year of operation, the students

temporarily occupied the Marcos Type building of Kaningag Elementary School.

After the compliance of the requirements and ocular visit on September 16, 2010 of the

inspectorate team led by Mr. Ponciano Q. Joven, CESO V, the Officer-in-Charge in the Office of the

Assistant Regional Direction, under the leadership of Mrs. Teofila G. Cabatuan, the Schools Division

Superintendent of Surigao City Division, the school was granted permit to operate on September 27,

2010 as annex high school of Mat-I National High School pursuant to Republic Act of 9155, otherwise

known as the Governance of Basic Education Act of 2001. In the same year, Mr. Julito B. Bonilla was

appointed as the head of the School until September 2013.

Last September 13, 2013 a new school head was appointed to lead Mabini National High School

successfully transferred to its new site donated by the heirs of the late Patricio A. Bernaldez, with newly

constructed building having two classrooms under DepEd budget 2013. As pursuant to the deed of

donation of the heirs of Patricio A. Bernaldez, the school was named Patricio A. Bernaldez Memorial
National High School. After the compliance of the basic requirements, it was separated from Mat-I

National High School on February 4, 2014 by virtue of DepEd Order No. 71, s. 2003.

Through the untiring support of the teachers and parents, the school had its first

Commencement Rite last March 27, 2014 with 35 Junior High School students as its first batch of

graduate. Until the present continuously education for the success of the children.

In the year 2017, Patricio A. Bernaldez Memorial National High School opens a newly curriculum

which is the Senior High School. It offers the track of Technology Vocational Livelihood (TVL)

Accessibility

Mabini National High School is located approximately 13 kilometers and could be reached

through a single motorcycle ride within 20-25 minutes from the city proper.

Curriculum

Mabini National High School is operating under Basic Education System-K-12 Program. The

teacher follows the curriculum plan or the learning competencies and use the appropriate method and

gaining activities independently and used the teacher’s guides to incorporate high level content areas

and suggestions for teaching assessing and facilitating learning.

The school desires to enrich the teaching on the eight (8) subjects namely: Mathematics,

Science, English, Filipino, Araling Panlipunan, MAPEH (Music, Arts, Physical Education & Health), TLE

(Technology in Livelihood Education) with different concentrations, EsP (Edukasyon sa Pagpapakatao),

following the methods of computation of grades which has four (4) grading perieds and use the

averaging method, the numerical system of grades in all learning areas is followed based on the criteria
in the DepEd Order No. 8, series of 2015 entitled Policy Guidelines on Classroom Assessment for K t o 12

Education Program.
