Purpose
The Associate Pastor for Discipleship and Youth (APDY) shall provide oversight, in agreement with the Elders, for all Arbor Drive Community Church (ADCC) ministries to children and youth. He shall also be responsible to see that parents are equipped to disciple their children biblically.
Scope
The APDY shall meet and have demonstrated the biblical qualifications for Elder as found in 1 Timothy 3:1-7 and Titus 1:6-9. He shall be in full agreement with the mission, doctrinal statement and constitution of ADCC. He shall be accountable to the Lead Pastor and work with all other ADCC pastors and staff in achieving the vision and goals established by its Elders.
He will be responsible for overseeing the children's and youth ministries of the church. He will work alongside, and not in place of, the families of Arbor Drive. This will be for the purpose of introducing lost children, students and parents to Jesus Christ and developing them spiritually in their relationship with the Savior. He will also be responsible for developing and discipling leaders for youth and children's ministries.
The APDY shall also serve as a member of the ADCC Elder Board.
Duties/ ResponsibiIities
. ProfessionaI:
A. Ministry: 1. The primary and most import aspect of this position is the oversight of children and youth ministries as well as providing discipleship tools and pastoral care for parents and ministry leaders to equip them to disciple others. (Eph 4)
2. The APDY shall work together with the existing children's and youth ministry leaders to see that the children, students and parents are being discipled and that the leaders are trained to effectively minister in each area. a. The current ministries are: Children: BLAST, Sunday School, Children's Church, Nursery. Youth: Junior High (The Wave) and Senior High (Aftershock)
b. The effectiveness of these ministries shall be measured by the growth of each participant in: Outreach The individuals are regularly reaching out in their schools, jobs, and lives to share the gospel and make disciples. iii. Growth nvolve children, students and parents in ministries that encourage them to grow in their faith and become Christ-like disciples that make disciples. A key metric will be parents actively involved in discipling children and youth and youth actively involved in discipling others. Equipping For the work of ministry, those who have been called and are ready to serve, by providing opportunities for children, students and parents to participate in all levels of the ministry. This will include (but is not limited to) care, prayer, worship, leadership, outreach, evangelism, service, counseling, motivating, promoting, managing, giving, planning, and ministering to one's peers through discipleship.
3. The APDY shall personally develop relationships with the ministry volunteers in the children's and youth ministries. He shall provide pastoral care for them and their families as well as for the family members and families directly involved in his ministry.
4. The APDY will model a lifestyle of discipleship to children, youth and parents as Christ did. This will be focused on preparing them, in an age appropriate manner, for each successive life stage as obedient followers of Christ.
B. Administrative: 1) The APDY shall be responsible for conducting annual reviews of all youth and children's ministries in conjunction with the Lead Pastor and respective ministries teams.
2) He will assist in executing the vision of the Elders under the direction of the Lead Pastor. He will direct the ministries for which he is responsible in a way that moves toward that vision.
3) He shall work with the Lead Pastor in developing the youth and children's ministries to fit the vision of the Elders. He shall regularly communicate the ministry plans and activities of the children and youth to the Lead Pastor and shall provide monthly updates to the Elder Board. He shall also submit written semi-annual and annual reports for those respective congregational meetings.
4) He shall be responsible for creating, overseeing and discipling leaders related to his areas of ministry and provide them with support and training necessary to fulfill their responsibilities and disciple others.
5) He shall be encouraged to attend approved conference, seminars and continuing education courses at the expense of ADCC for the purpose of developing his ministry skills.
6) He shall support all church services/ministries and utilize his gifts by having responsibilities in leading worship, preaching and teaching under the leadership of the Lead Pastor.
II. PersonaI:
A. GeneraI 1. He shall be responsible to maintain his own spiritual growth and that of his family (1 Cor 11:3, Eph 6:4) 2. He shall have a mindset that discipling his family is the most important ministry and shall make spending time with his family a priority. 3. He shall maintain accountability relationships with one or more elders.
B. KnowIedge, SkiIIs, Competencies and Experience 1. Doctrine The APDY must be in complete agreement with the mission, constitution and doctrinal statement of this church. He shall be a member of ADCC. He shall be a member of Arbor Drive Community Church
2. Education and experience An accredited Bible college degree and/or seminary preferred. Previous experience in discipling others into spiritual maturity required.
3. CriticaI skiIIs/Competencies Must have demonstrated proficiency in verbal and communication skills. Must be a self-started who can work in an unsupervised environment. Must be capable of seeing needs and pursuing solutions to meet those needs. Must practice conflict resolution according to Matthew 18. Must be proficient in administrating, teaching and organizational skills. Must have a passion and desire to disciple others into spiritual maturity and see them make disciples. Must be proficient in technology including basic computer knowledge, Microsoft Office and social media.
