Safety Test for Engine/Generator Set

Install engine onto test bed. Ensure test cell is clean and tidy before proceeding with engine test. With engine running without load and water thermostat valve opened, perform the Following safety switches checks:

a. High water temperature alarm - With water switch disconnected and connected plugged, submerge the water switch into container of water with heater. Heat up the water to the required temperature (specification) and ensure high temperature alarm activated. (94 C - 96 C)*

b. High water temperature shutdown - Increase the water temperature with respect to auto-shut down temperature as per specification. Ensure engine auto shutdown activated. (97 C - 99 C)*

c. Low oil Pressure alarm - With pressure regulation tool fitted, lower the oil pressure to the required pressure specification and ensure low oil pressure alarm activated. (18 psi +/-2 psi)*

d. Low oil pressure shutdown - Decrease the oil pressure as per pressure shutdown specification and ensure engine shut down activated. (12 psi +/-2 psi)*

e. High lubricating oil temperature alarm - With lubricating oil temperature switch disconnected and connected plugged, submerge the switch into container of oil with heater. - Heat up the oil to the required temperature (specification) and ensure high temperature alarm activated. (110 C - 120 C)*

f. Over-speed setting - By using the over-speed specification or the following formula, set the engine to trip at the required speed: Rated speed + 10% to 15% = Over-speed Setting (RPM) *THIS DOCUMENT (AND THE INFORMATION SHOWN THEREON) ALLOWABLE VALUES ARE IN ACCORDANCE WITH MAKERS SPECIFICATION, UNLESS ALTERNATIVE RULES OR VALUES ARE USED IN ACCORDANCE WITH CUMMINS PUBLISHED MAIRNE RATING GUIDELINES.
