This week in FLK-3 We settled back into routines And Said Good-bye and Good Luck to Miss Evans

Teachers are born, not made! We will miss you, but KNOW you will be AWESOME!!!
In Language: We wrote about our favourite Santa gift and discussed the concept of the NEW YEAR. We reviewed our sounds. We began a new unit entitled Look at Me! We began a new Name booklet. Every day from now on, we will sign in so we can practice printing our names. Manny the Moose continues to inspire with each sleep over visit!...This week, he even inspired some PARENTS to do FUNNY things!!! Our Star Students this week were Meghan and Nate. Excellent jobs by both of our Leaders!

In Gym: We ran into the Gym and carried on with our warm-up routine like there had been no break! Awesome! We played Octopus. In Religion: We showed the children the Thank You card from UNICEF for purchasing The Mother and Baby pack. We provided 355 tetanus inoculations to mothers who will then pass on immunity to their children. Again, thank you for your generous support and for instilling the importance of Bucket Filling behavior in such a meaningful way in your children! Awesome! We learned that sometimes we have to say good-bye to special people. We discussed that this is a very hard thing to have to do and that its okay to be sad. We also discussed looking forward to saying HELLO again !!!! Science: Miss Evans baked birth stones with the children. By mixing coffee grounds, flour and salt and filling them with gems, the colour of our birthstones we baked them in the oven for 15 minuets. The result was our own birthstones that had to be excavated! It was a lot of fun. In Fine Motor Development: There was lots of cutting action at the craft table this week and we revisited proper pencil grips for printing our names and numbers. In Art: Art and Science were intertwined this week. In Music, Drama and Dance: Every day is Dance Day! In Mathematics: We counted up to 77 days of school using various visuals and manipulatives. I brought back the Amaryllis which is STILL blooming! and we continued to mark its growth and discuss its measurements. We also noticed some of us GREW over the Holiday so Miss Evans measured the students and posted A New Year, A New Me display in the hall. In Personal and Social Development: We revisited the STOP,THINK, DO problem solving model, eating healthy snacks, following rules and routines. We also had another visit from Mr. and Mrs. P and most importantly Baby Millie. We talked about different Emotions and the way we watch Millie and others facial cues for how they are feeling. Most importantly we discovered that when Baby Millie smiles at us it makes us smile also There is absolutely something about the power of babies and making everyones day.

In Inquiry/Directed Play: We have begun to talk about birthstones, where they come from, how they are made and learning the different stones that go with each month. We also talked about the Kimberly Mine in South Africa, which is one of the biggest Diamond Mines in the world. We tried to visualize exactly how big it would be. We learned that it was 30 football fields wide and over 700 ft deep. We also measured the children themselves after the Christmas holiday many of them have defiantly sprouted!!
