Community and Service

This area of interaction allows you to consider how you engage with your immediate family, classmates and friends in the outside world as a member of these communities. Through different activities, you can learn about your place within these communities and be motivated to act in a new context.

Your reflection on Community and service Create an overview of your commitment to community service so far this year. Include a description of the activities in which you are involved. Explain how these experiences have affected you and impacted others. For community service, I did 4 hours at Terres-des-Jeunes and 2 hours helping the SPCA. At the school, I gave out candy popcorn during the movie and before and after I helped set up and clean up the movie area. It felt good helping younger kids and giving them candy and the kids were impressed that I was helping out. My math teacher works at the SPCA and loves animals. So she gave us a project that we would get supplies for the SPCA because it is a non-profit organization. She had a list of supplies and told different students to get different supplies. So I and my partner went around collecting stationary supplies like pencils, paper, erasers, etc. I really felt good because I was helping animals that didnt have a home.

Health and Social Education

This area of interaction delves into the range of human issues that exists in human societies, such as social structures, relationships and health. During the five years of the programme, this AOI will help you to find out how these issues affect societies, communities and individuals, including yourself. Through the area of health and social education, you can identify and develop skills that will enable you to function as effective member of societies, as well as learning about how you are changing and how to make informed decisions that may relate to your welfare.

Reflection on this AOI Which health and social issues affect my age group? How were they approached so far this year in the school? All lot of my age group drink a lot of soft drinks and eat a lot of junk food. Its okay to have it once in a while but having it too much is not healthy. Most boys my age dont have much of a social life because of electronics and video games like Xbox or Playstation. Instead of playing outside getting exercise, their inside playing on their video games. I myself have video games but I dont go on as much and the closer to exams and summer the less I stay inside and play video games. The issues werent rea lly approached in school this year.

Which other issue(s) should be addressed in this school for your group age? Why do you think so?

Environments
This area of interaction considers how human interact with the world at large and the parts we play in our environments. It extends into areas beyond human issues and asks students to examine the interrelationships of different environments. Both immediate classroom environments and global environments are to be considered.

Reflection on this AOI How did I affect my environments this year? How did my environments affect me? I didnt litter or do any vandalism to my environments like my classrooms, my school, my neighborhood, etc. I also participated in a garbage clean up. I was put into a group; we would get gloves and a rake to pick up garbage in the back of our school. (The back of our school as in the turf field and the soccer field) There was a lot of garbage everywhere on the floor. My environments were clean except their was a lot of vandalism in the school desks.

Human ingenuity
This AOI deals with the way in which human minds have influenced the world, for example, the way we are, think, interact with each other, create, find solutions to and cause problems, transform ideas and rationalize thought. It also considers the consequences of human thought and action.

Reflection on this AOI What have I created this year in school that I am the most proud of? Why is it so? In science class, we got a project to build a working submarine that would float, sink, and then come back up. We had to use dollar store supplies like water bottles, elastics, balloons, marble, etc. I was most proud of it because it took a while to make and it worked perfectly on my first try. So I got a good mark on it.

PART B: Your pieces of work

In all the pieces of work that you have included in your portfolio, chose one of them in order to answer the following questions. Piece of work chosen: French Book story_______________________________________
How this chosen piece of work relate to the Areas of Interaction? It relates the Area of Interaction because I created a story, which is Human Ingenuity.

What do you think you have learned while working on this assignment? I learned new words in and how to write a good book, like coming up with ideas, planning everything out, etc.

Why are you proud of this piece of work? It turned out a lot better than I expected and even though I didnt get a super high mark on it, I still did well.
