TYPE PERMIT No 056-TH-10 Use of Left Hand Drive Controls on Dual Control Vehicles

Transport Operations (Road Use Management) Act 1995

This PERMIT is issued under the provisions of the Transport Operations (Road Use Management Vehicle Standards and Safety) Regulation 1999, Chapter 2 Part 2 Section 10 (1)(b) and approves the use of the left hand drive control on particular vehicles. Vehicle types covered by this Permit: a. Garbage and recycling collection vehicles with a Gross Vehicle Mass exceeding 4.5 tonnes b. Street sweeping vehicles with a Gross Vehicle Mass exceeding 4.5 tonnes Permit period: 14 April 2010 to 30 June 2014 (inclusive) unless sooner revoked by the Chief Executive of the Department of Transport and Main Roads or his delegate. Conditions of Operation: 1. The vehicle complies with the requirements of Schedule 1, Part 4, Division 1, Section 16 Steering of the Transport Operations (Road Use Management Vehicle Standards and Safety) Regulation 1999. 2. The vehicle complies with all requirements applicable under the Australian Design Rules. 3. The vehicle shall only be driven from the Left Hand Drive Control position when engaged in waste collection or street sweeping on the left hand side of the road. 4. The vehicle is not to exceed 60km/hr when driven from the left hand steering position. 5. Sign Dual Control Vehicle with minimum 75mm red lettering on white background is affixed to the front and rear of the vehicle. 6. An amber rotating or flashing warning light is displayed at the rear of the vehicle. 7. The vehicle has current registration. Contravention of any of the conditions of operation will void this Permit. The user of this permit shall indemnify the Director-General of the Department of Transport and Main Roads against any claim, action or process for damage or injury that may be sustained against him due to the use of the vehicles as specified.
