Obsessed.

I found SJ Tilly in the middle of December, and I hate that it took me so long to jump into her work. Because these Alliance Men are absolutely everything, and the women who love them - chef’s kiss - perfection to the highest level.

Hans is obsessed. Literally. Figuratively. Emotionally. His neighbor, Cassandra, is the object of his obsession - affection? - and he is accepting of watching her form afar. He knows that they can never have Obsessed.

I found SJ Tilly in the middle of December, and I hate that it took me so long to jump into her work. Because these Alliance Men are absolutely everything, and the women who love them - chef’s kiss - perfection to the highest level.

Hans is obsessed. Literally. Figuratively. Emotionally. His neighbor, Cassandra, is the object of his obsession - affection? - and he is accepting of watching her form afar. He knows that they can never have any sort of relationship, friendship or otherwise, because of his line of “work” and lifelong mission. And despite her many attempts in the form of intriguing baked goods left on his doorstep, Hans is determined to hold strong and watch her from afar. But one little black book, some steamy photos, and an address mix-up shatter any hopes Hans has of keeping Cassandra strictly across the street. Because no one is good enough for his Butterfly, but he’s not letting anything stand between them any longer.

Hans, Hans, Hans. I love him. He is unapologetically himself, if you’ve read the rest of the series he reminds me of Nero - he just knows how to keep his crazy hidden a little better (sometimes). I shed tears for Hans, I hated so much what led to him becoming what he was. I hated the pain, guilt, and responsibility that he dealt with from such a young age. He was a shell, existing in the world until he could accomplish his mission. But the one light he let into his life was Cassandra, and even though he only allowed himself to see her through glimpses on a screen or through a window, his intentions towards her always felt pure. Even when he fell asleep on her bed that one time. He knew that she was his solace, his light, ultimately his reward for his lifetime of pain.

Cassandra, she’s just as unhinged as Hans. She bubbly, energetic, and just as obsessed with Hans as he is with her. I love how she is also unapologetically herself. She knows what she wants and doesn’t want, and she’s not afraid to take chances. I love how she refuses to let Hans silence deter her, she keeps leaving baked goods for him, she keeps trying to get his attention. She’s just as determined to get his attention as Hans is to avoid Cassandra. I adore the way that Cassie, when he finally lets her, accepts Hans. She doesn’t fear him, doesn’t question him, doesn’t want him to be anything other than the man that he is. Cassandra wants Hans exactly as he his - flaws, danger, and passiveness high-handedness included.

Hans and Cassie as a couple are sizzling. They mesh so incredibly well. Where Hans is dark, Cassie is light. Where Hans is analytical, Cassie is humorous. Where Hans is hard, Cassie is soft. They are the perfect partner for the other. The trust they give each other is everything, the sexual chemistry is off the charts, the smutty smut smut is smutting, and the tracker insertion scene (yes you read that right) is hawt. I love that Cassie knows that Hans will always come for her, I love that Hans knows that his Butterfly trusts him. The way that these characters are just purely the unfiltered versions of themselves is everything.

Getting the chance to see the other members of the Alliance is always a good time, but this time it was probably my favorite. They really are the perfect little maniacal family, they mesh together so well despite their huge egos and powerful positions in life. They are all so accepting, willing to jump into the fire for each other, and always give each other 100% no matter the danger they’re facing. And isn’t that what family’s all about?

The epilogues are everything - I shed tears when we got the chance to visit Hans’ parents and sister.

I can’t wait to dive more into SJ Tilly’s world and catch glimpses of the Alliance in the future. ...more

Perfect spicy, quick read for the holiday season. Add in a touch of history for the plot and its perfection!!
