Wolf Gone Wild

Rate this book
What's the worst thing that can happen to a werewolf? Unable to shift for three months, Mateo Cruz knows all too well. His wolf has taken up residence in his head, taunting him night and day with vividly violent and carnal thoughts. Convinced he's cursed, he needs the help of a powerful witch before he literally goes insane.

Evie Savoie has always obeyed the house rules of her coven — no werewolves. They're known for being moody and volatile. So, when a distempered, dangerous werewolf strolls into the bar and almost strangles one of her late-night customers, she's ready to bounce him through the door. But the desperation in his eyes when he begs her to help him softens her heart and convinces her to bend the rules.

What Evie doesn't know is that Mateo's wolf has a mind of his own. And now that she's in his sights, he wants only one thing. Her.

The Big Bad Wolf is Hot!!

Werewolfs, witches ,vampires and a zombie cat oh! My!!!!
Another fabulous read from Juliette cross and it's a twisty, snarky and full of awesome one liners with hot sexy paranormal male characters from Mateo who's a werewolf who's had a hex put on him so he can't shift to his wolf and is being drove crazy by Alpha his wolf spirt and all alpha cares about is fucking and fighting and of course he won't shut up for one moment!! Until Mateo goes to see evie a witch who breaks hex's! Mateo and evie along with her sisters have tried to help him break the curse but some very powerful witch has cast a blood spell !! It will take not only evie and her witch sisters, and a powerful vampire to find a book to break this curse and they don't even now who the witch is. This book had all juliette's trade Mark's from amazing writing to a great storyline to steamy lovemaking and hot sensuality!! It's set in New Orleans were their are many paranormal creatures and you never know what or who you might come across. The build between evie and Mateo is slow at first because Mateo is a loner like most wolf's he likes his own company. He doesn't get to close to any women for fear that they'll start asking questions on why he takes off for days on end,it's just easier this way, And ever since evie's break up with Derek the douche bag evie hasn't been with any other guys. Their becoming best friends and she's teaching him all about star wars and wolverine and comics, and their growing closer. Mateo wants evie but he's afraid of alpha taking over and him not being able to control him,but the fires building and soon neither will have a choice!!! And when alpha starts the ball in motion mateo can't control the beast any longer and the need to claim to his sweet little witch is now!! the time is well past stolen kisses and caresses its time to make her his!!!

Lots of foreplay and off the charts chemistry !!!! And the characters are awesome as well I loved both evie and Mateo she was sweet and sexy girl who loves starwars, wolverine and comics and Mateo is a artist who makes mythical metal sculptures . And then theirs secondary characters like evie's sister jule, violet and Clara who all have special talents who just as intriguing and then theirs a sexy gorgeous vampire Ruben Dubois who is the head of the southern vampires,he's so sexy!!! Can't wait for more of him!!! I highly recommend this book if you like a entertaining funny sexy read with fabulous one liners and plenty of snark to go around with passion and a sexy werewolve who's wolf spirt Alpha is a delicious dirty bad boy who just can't keep his thoughts to himself. Until next time luv's.💋💞

This is a case of ‘I-wish-I-liked-this-better’ and ‘I-really-don’t-like-giving-it-a-3-star-rating-but-it-was-asking-for-it’.
Especially since I heard such great things about it, so I was expecting more, whatever more was, but I didn’t get more.

From the beginning, I had a disconnect to the writing style. I can’t exactly explain it but it didn’t hit me. Something about it felt a little… bland?

The characters, the world and plot felt underdeveloped considering it’s a paranormal romance/urban fantasy. Don’t get me wrong, we got some of it, but their was no meat to it. I couldn’t envision the world and the witches and the paranormal creatures. I wanted it to read more magical, but it all felt so flimsy and not believable. Especially the plot. I just didn’t care for it.

And the characters felt YA even though they’re adults. I’m talking in their 30s if I’m not mistaken. Yet they read so young and immature and some of the dialogue I just wasn’t vibing with. It came across as childish.

So I’m confused. This was a mix of different things and I’m unclear of the direction this was supposed to be going in.

I’ll be trying the rest of the series, because I think it has potential to get better. I just hope it does for me.

Wolf Gone Wild is book one in a brand new series by Juliette Cross, Stay A Spell. In this series you are going to meet the Savoie sisters, a group of sisters that just happen to be witches who live in New Orleans.

Evie Savoie is a very talented and powerful witch. She spends her days helping out at the bar/restaurant her oldest sister, Jules owns, The Cauldron, and also at the shop her sister Clara owns, Mystic Maybelle’s. Evie was known as a hex breaker. She has a specific talent and has never met a hex she couldn’t conquer. As a rule, witches avoided werewolves. They were temperamental and unpredictable. Not to mention the whole blood lust thing that happened when they shifted. So you can say she wasn’t thrilled when a werewolf came walking into the bar late one evening when she was already exhausted. This is the last thing she wanted to deal with.

hotness

Mateo Cruz has always had complete control over his wolf except during his shift. But something is blocking Mateo from being able to shift. He thinks that somehow a hex has been put on him. It’s been three months. His inner wolf has taken to talking to him, a constant voice in his head. He won’t stop talking.

Mateo has never met any of the Savoie sisters but had heard of Evie’s ability to break hexes. So he sought her out at The Cauldron. What he hadn’t expected was that as soon as he was near her, his wolf quieted.

“Man and beast needed to be near her, and there was nothing in the wide world I could do to deny it. Her proximity was all I needed.”

tarot cards reading - Google Search

Evie and her sisters need to figure out just what is keeping Mateo’s wolf locked inside him. Who put a hex on him and why? Mateo wants Evie to spend time with him to calm his wolf. As these two spend time together, they form a bond, a friendship of sorts but more.

“For the first time, I wasn’t content by myself. I yearned for her.”

These two were so adorable. Evie was so full of life but lacked confidence in herself. Something Mateo helped her with. And Evie brought out a side to Mateo he didn’t even know was there, a romantic side, a more fun loving side, even a sappy side because he had fallen hard for her. His adoration gave me butterflies.

I didn’t expect so much humor in this. Mateo’s wolf was hilarious at times. The running monologue drove Mateo crazy. Evie was so full of life, so exuberant. She was so good for Mateo. Werewolves were solitary by nature but she drew him out.

Feelings grew fast and deep but they had to figure out how to free Mateo’s wolf first. After that would he be finished with Evie? Or could they be more? I enjoyed this so much. I loved these sisters. I’m thinking the future books will be about each sister. I’m not sure but if that’s the case, I have my hopes on who will be next. Juliette Cross never fails to amaze me and that’s just what she did with this new series. It’s so different than any of her others and I can’t wait for you to meet Evie and Mateo. I hope you love them just as I did.

It was a painfully long and predictable story, watered down by a build up for a series (I will never read); and sprinkled with uncomfortable and awkward (wannabe geeky?) sex.

Really, really uncomfortable... With "my girls" for breasts, "my little lady" for vagina and sexy gems like "I was sure I looked like a lust-crazed idiot, jaw slack, pulse pounding, my eyes fixated on his mouth" and (my favourite) "My nipples saluted with gusto."

I'd even say, if you feel a need for a cold shower (but can't have one for any reason) - just read this! You will probably be done with sex for a while after that.

It felt like a 150 pages long book, filled with lots of nonsense to stretch it up to 378 - and I felt my brain cells dying, while shamelessly skimming just to get to the end of it... Here go my high expectations.

DNF @ 14% OOF no thank you.

It’s the pop culture references and the “look how quirky she is she really likes comic books and Star Wars” that did it for me 😭

A real bummer because I was looking forward to having a good time blowing through this whole series but the first 57 pages of this book are enough to tell me I’m not into the narrative voice here.

I don't know what it is about werewolves that draws me in. They are like catnip to me! I can't resist them. Out of all the shifter books I've read (dragon, shark, panther, crocodile, bunny, etc) I still come back to wolves. They'll be my number one always I think. Add witches and New Orleans and this book made my favourites list before I even read it. Luckily for me it was just as good as I needed it to be. I love it when authors put their own stamp on classic supernatural beings and Juliette Cross certainly did that here.

description

Mateo Cruz has reached his breaking point. Unable to shift for three months and constantly being beleaguered by his wolf, has pushed him to the limit. In desperation he seeks the witches help. Known for their coven rule of no werewolves he risks their wrath but at this point he feels he has no other choice.

Evie Savoie almost throws Mateo out of her family's bar when she realises he's truly suffering after he briefly loses control of the wolf. She decides to bend the rules and take him to her sisters. Mateo and the witches suspect that someone has hexed him and Evie as a hex breaker witch agrees to help him break it. Unfortunately for them it's not as simple as it sounds.

description

By far the most delightful part of the book is the irreverent commentary by Alpha, Mateo's wolf. He was truly an Alpha and I loved him! Mateo is a laid back lone wolf more focused in creating his art than anything else. In contrast Alpha wants to kill, maim or beat up everything that moves and establish his dominance. I was a sucker for Alpha! I liked Mateo, he was a fabulous guy but his inner wolf stole my heart and revved up my libido!

description

This was a majorly fun book for me. Reading about the werewolf lore, the witches magic and meeting various side characters I'm sure will get their own books, was so entertaining for me. No angst, no misunderstandings, no "I don't deserve you" whining, just a lovely straightforward slow burn with a decent suspense element. I know some of you need the angst and the drama but not me. I love a good amusing book without all the unnecessary shock value twists (side eye at you Scarlett Dawn, Susan Fanetti and C.L.Wilson).

If you love angst-free paranormal romance with werewolves and witches, give it a try.

P.S. Contains Star Wars spoilers. As well as Deadpool and Wolverine geek outs.

What to Expect:
➼ Magic & Hexes
➼ Forbidden Love
➼ Werewolves & Witches
➼ Forced Proximity
➼ Slow Burn
➼ Sisterhood
➼ Dual POV (+ Alpha’s POV)

In the words of Al the TikTok husband, “Spectacular, give me 14 of them right now.”

Guys, I loved this so much! Such a delightful read! I literally want to be a Savoie sister now and I am beyond thrilled that this is already such a lengthy series - best believe I will read them ALL! The author did an excellent job detailing each sister’s unique personality and magical gift/s. I love that she made each girl stand out in their own way and gave them different strengths and weakness both magically and in their character. I have no doubt that this will make the series that much more fun to read and will give each girl a very unique character voice. I identify most with Jules so I am particularly interested in reading her happy ending, but apparently I’ll have to wait until book 5! 😭

Evie & Mateo - Gosh I love them! They were such a sweet couple! 🖤 I loved the pacing and how well they got to know each other before jumping into love. Many slow burns can feel angsty for no reason, but his concerns about potentially losing control of his wolf made their slow progression and start as friends make perfect sense. The addition of Alpha’s thoughts and their running internal banter added the perfect touch of comedy to the story. Just all around a great premise and execution. 👏🏻👏🏻

This is definitely a fluffier palate cleanser type series but sometimes that is EXACTLY what I’m looking for. I’m happy to have found this series now as it will be the perfect series to read as we move into the Fall and cozy season. 🍂🍁

✼ ҉ ✼ ҉ ✼ ҉ ✼ ҉ ✼ ҉ ✼ ҉ ✼

Pre-read: Now that the 4th is over, I’m officially declaring it Summerween. 👻🍁🧛⚰️🐺🎃🍂☕️🧡

Give me all the Vampires, Werewolves, and paranormal romance books from now until November. 🥰

4 ⭐️ I think I just found my new favorite paranormal rom-com series!!!!!!

"A man can fall for many women, but the wolf falls only once."

My Thoughts:

I LOVED this and never wanted to put it down! Easily one of the most fun and entertaining reads of the year.

So what exactly did I love?

The MCs, Mateo and Evie, have my whole god damn heart! Mateo is the sweetest, most thoughtful man ever and Evie is such a lovely, caring woman. Together, they make the cutest couple - the kind that's so sweet, you may want to vomit, but only in the best way possible lol. I am so glad they are an unproblematic couple and their relationship wasn't the main conflict of the story (though there is a lot of tension and pining).

Evie is also super nerdy and I LOVED seeing her geekiness shine through with all the Star Wars references and talk. And she even converts Mateo into a Star Wars fan! It was fun seeing her embrace her creative side and gain the confidence to publish her own comics by the end.

Really quick, back to Mateo. If you like a MMC that worships his woman, you're going to fall in love with this man. From the beginning, Mateo eats, sleeps, and dreams of Evie and all he wants is to make her his and make her happy. I adored how he playfully teases Evie. Plus, Mateo openly communicates with Evie, and once he figures out she's the one for him, he makes his intentions known. He’s seriously the best book boyfriend! I absolutely LOVED him.

And how could I not talk about Alpha - Mateo's wolf side who happens to be super dominated and very vocal about his desire for Evie lol. The conversations inside Mateo's head between him and Alpha had me laughing out loud. And Alpha not understanding sarcasm and his little one liners were absolutely hysterical.

The romance was a slow burn but swoon-worthy! There's a pretty instant connection between the two but because Mateo is currently in a dangerous state with his Alpha side constantly threatening to take over, he doesn't act on his desires for a while. And the tension and lust that follows was so delicious. Waiting for these two to finally get together was absolute torture but so worth it. And Alpha finally getting Evie to submit was fucking hot!

The overall writing, the plot, and the world-building were very well done! I especially loved this take on paranormal creatures - werewolves, vampires, witches, and grims. While some of their traits stick to traditional lore, there were quite a few new elements added which I found interesting. Juliette Cross also does a great job being informative without info dumping as well as balance the romance and plot.

I adore all of the Savoie sisters. Throughout the book, we were slowly introduced to Evie's five sisters and I cannot wait to read each of their stories (each book features a different sister and love interest). They have such a healthy, loving family dynamic, which was wonderful to see. It's also so cool that each sister has a different power and that they can rely on each other whenever they need help and support.

My only complaints are that sometimes the story was a bit too slow, especially with Mateo and Evie's relationship, and then the conflict at the end happened so fast. However, neither was a big enough problem for it to take away from my overall enjoyment.

Overall, Wolf Gone Wild was a great story and I can't wait to read the rest! This series is perfect to read any time of year, but especially during the fall when you're looking for something paranormal and cozy. PS: It's free on Kindle Unlimited so download this immediately!

Two things drove my dnf of this story. The first, and by far the biggest, is Mateo's interaction with his inner wolf, Alpha. They aren't at all integrated, or even terribly compatible. Alpha is a huge jerk, single-mindedly fixated on fighting every male and having sex with Evie. There's nothing more to "him" and I can see why Mateo is going slowly nuts. And it doesn't help that Alpha is unrelenting and crude while he's at it. It's like being sent back to Jr. High where you just had to put up with that one inevitable guy who loved pushing boundaries by saying all the crude stuff he could when any authority figures weren't present. And being completely internal, Mateo has no sanctuary. I'm pretty sure that's a universal guy experience (if you didn't know that guy, you probably were that guy), but I'm open to being wrong about that. You're welcome, ladies, for that insight into male experience. Or this male experience, at any rate. It wasn't fun.

Second, and the reason I finally ditched out, is that Evie reads rather immature for a woman in her thirties. She's had a single long-term relationship and that with a guy who dismissed her dream as stupid (her dream is mildly stupid, but this is a wish-fulfillment fantasy, so that doesn't really matter). And she's essentially validated him ever since by burying her dream from everyone else, including the highly emotionally supportive group of women around her. And I can see how Mateo is going to end up supporting and encouraging her and that's going to be some kind of catalyst for their relationship. And all I can think about is how she's surrounded by these women who support and adore her, each with their own unlikely endeavors they're pursuing. And she has to turn to some guy to find emotional validation? Seriously? Oh, the poor damsel who needs to be saved . . . from herself.

I'll close by noting that mine is an extremely idiosyncratic reaction and yours is unlikely to match it. If you weren't traumatized in Jr. High, you might not find Alpha so off-putting. And Evie is very lovely and I liked her more than a little and her need for Mateo's validation would probably be a very small blip if I weren't already pulled out of the story by my reaction to the wolf. So this one star rating should be taken with a huge grain of salt. Or, as my friend Jay would put it, possibly a small Siberian salt mine. (Why Siberian? Are there lots of salt mines there? I never asked.)

This book was an absolute snooze fest.

I don’t think I’ve read something more boring in a long long time. I’d take something bad but entertaining over this any freaking day.

The story followed a very predictable version of events. And between the initial conflict and the resolution there was nothing but filler.

Literally it’s like this.

Matteo (a wolf shifter in a world full of supernaturals) has been unable to shift for some time, he realised it’s not normal and comes to the conclusion he’s been hexed - enter the heroine who has a never ending stream of sisters (gotta make sure there’s plenty of future books eh) and who is a witch. She tells him she’ll help. After that it’s mostly 90% of the book of them doing cutesy nerdy stuff, having endless boring filler conversations with people around them, doing some kissing and some other stuff (underwhelming) and then BAM the the revelation of the person behind the hex is done in a “dramatic” fashion - it’s all solved in a few pages and then HEA.

This was so formulaic but in the worst way possible. I don’t hate predictable stories, but this had nothing going for it except hundreds of mind numbing pages of filler after filler scenes.

"You think I can't handle the big bad wolf?"

💫 love that this series is set in nola
💫 liked both characters enough, but the smut involving alpha (the heroes inner wolf) gets a no from me
💫 this was tooooo long, the plot was definitely dragged out
💫 the hero being a metalworker was sexy ngl. hadn't thought about that profession much before but the artistry mixed w the ruggedness just 🥵
💫 will prob skip book 2 and go straight to violet's book, those hate glares she's sending nico have me intrigued. but i'm MOST interested in jules and ruben, they have some coballoway energy goin on

I feel like this book was better than three stars, but I just didn't enjoy it that much so I can't justify giving it more 🙄

I COULD NOT CONNECT with either of the characters! Evie was a badass and nerdy witch, something I should normally love to read about... and Mateo was such a lovable cupcake with a good dose of alpha wolf... another thing I should normally love to read about. But it just didn't work for me here

🆗 MATEO AND HIS WOLF'S internal arguments were pretty funny sometimes, but other times they were a little over the top. I'm not a big fan of dirty talk and Alpha was definitely very much into dirty talk lol

THE STEAM LEVEL was definitely pretty spicy and more adult than YA, which was exactly what I was looking for!

THE MYSTERY PORTION of the story didn't make sense to me. There weren't any clues to who the villain was and there weren't any suspects either, which I thought was strange. And then the villain just kind of revealed themselves at the end and it was another case of "evil just to be evil" with no real purpose for the villain

THE SAVOIE SISTERS were really badass and I enjoyed their family dynamic! It was a little hard to remember who everyone was, but I think this sets up the rest of the series well. I especially want to read about Jules and Ruben's romance 😍

Overall, I don't think I will read all of the books in the series because I didn't love it and my tbr is already too long, although I may read Jules and Ruben's story when it comes out! I would recommend this if you're looking for a supernatural romance that is lite and funny - a good book for a lazy summer day

I picked it up because I needed more magic after reading Go hex yourself (which you should totally check out, if you haven’t yet btw), and it sooooo delivered!!

🫠😍🥰

So there's this quiet, introverted, (conveniently smoking hot) guy, who happens to be a werewolf. For some strange reason he’s not been able to shift for a while. As a result his wolf is trapped in his head and won't shut up about wolfish things, like gutting people with spoons, choking strangers and (of course!) sex. Mateo is a nice guy, albeit a dangerous werewolf, and is slowly losing his shit over the wolf.

While desperately looking for a cure Mateo meets Evie, a witch, who knows how to break curses and, as it turns out, how to calm down the wolf. Since it’s the only way for the wolf to shut up, Mateo wants to be around Evie as much as possible aaaaaand we all know where this is going 😍.

Mateo is so unbelievably adorable you just want to hug him. He gives a vibe of a sweet boy from the neighborhood, but there's also this powerful alpha energy about him which you are constantly aware of and that mix is soooo hot! 🫠

Evie is great too, while I’m not a Star Wars fan myself (🫣) if a heroine is it’s always a good sign. What can I say, I just have a thing for geeks. And geeks practicing magic? I mean 😍.

I deducted a star for some of Mateo’s fuckups, but overall it’s an absolutely delicious read. And no drama!!! 🏆🏆🏆

On to the next book!!

What an amazing book! Cute as hell and very sweet and funny !

✔️Friends-to-Lovers
✔️ Worshiping Hero
✔️ Slow-burn”ish”
✔️Forced proximity
✔️ Steamy

Okay, Matteo is my dream! This man was fabulous, one of the best book boyfriend ever written and I’m not even exaggerating haha! If you like a WORSHIPING hero, one who is totally in awe with the heroine, treat her like a goddess and can go to hell for her? You will love this man! Matteo is perfect, Alpha, confident, vulnerable and supporting. I love the lead heroine as well, Evie is adorable and I love how nerdy she was! The chemistry was off the chart in this book and it was hilarious, sweet, hot as hell and freaking adorable.

The writing was superb and the plot very very well done! The supporting characters were very well written and I love the family dynamics of the Savoie sisters. Some scenes were just a bit long for my liking but it’s was a solid 4 stars in my opinion.

Frankly don’t hesitate to read this novel, it was very pleasant !

I’ll definitely look more into this author work and follow Evie’s sisters stories.

Wolf Gone Wild is a new series from Juliette Cross. I’ve read a few of her other series and this one is a bit of a shift in tone and direction. It is much more on the romantic side of PNR and it’s a lot lighter, with more humor and pop culture references than the other series I’ve read by her.
“Wait a minute. You watched it once? So you’ve seen one Star Wars movie? And that’s it?”
He shrugged a shoulder. “Not really into science fiction movies. Or movies in general, for that matter.”
“I can’t even believe what I’m hearing,” I muttered more to myself than to him. It was like Chewbacca speaking Klingon. Does. Not. Compute. Okay. Don’t freak out on him.

Meet Evie our Star Wars and comic loving heroine, who also comes from a crazy little family of witches. I mean crazy in the best shenanigans kind of way. Her oldest sister, Jules, is the power force behind the magic scene in New Orleans with all of her other sisters including herself leading some kind of support role too that. Jules has always said "stay away from Werewolves they are nothing but trouble" and she is probably right because Mateo is T R O U B L E. Well actually he is in trouble and only Evie and her family might be able to help him.
She took out her wand— yes, you heard me— handcrafted according to her Pottermore-assigned wand as 14.5 inches long, made of vine wood with unicorn hair core. I’d asked her what her craftsman had used instead of unicorn hair, because unicorns weren’t real. She’d just laughed at me like I was silly and naïve. So I left it alone.

Mateo has been cursed. He used to have a good balance with the wolf inside of him and they each got body time and didn't really bother the other. But due to the curse not letting him shift Alpha is the voice in his head that just won't shut up and is really only interested in eating, fighting and banging. Not specifically in that order. He needs Evie to help him break this curse since he is starting to feel like the wolf is going to take over and no one in the city needs that to happen.

This is a cute love story with a good introduction to the world and some of the characters in it. Evie is pretty adorable and loved her geeked out love of all things comic book related and the pop culture references that brought out in the story. Her connection to Mateo is cute and I really enjoyed reading their love story. Alpha is the comic relief and it was fun watching him and Mateo try and find a balance sharing the same body in the same space and time.

This series seems like all the books will be romance based and you can read them as stand alone novels. I liked how the magic was presented in the book and look forward to seeing what other kinds of creatures the series has in story for us. Evie and Mateo's story was witty, flirty and fun. I'm interested in seeing how the rest of the sisters do and who their matches will be.

The hex breaker!

The following ratings are out of 5:
Romance: 💚🖤💙💜❤️
Heat/Steam: 🔥🔥🔥🔥
Story/Plot: 📕📗📙📘📔
World building: 🌏🌍🌎🌏🌎
Character development: ☹️🙃☺️😀🤓
Narrator(s): 🎙🎙🎙🎙🎙
Narration Type: Dual Narration

The heroine: Evie Savoie - One of the Savoie sisters, who are the most well known witches in New Orleans. Evie is a powerful hex breaker, she works at her sister Jules’ bar called “The Cauldron” and her other sister Clara’s shop called “Mystic Maybelle’s”. She is a quirky and geeky redhead who loves comic books, is a Star Wars fanatic and has a fangirl crush on Wolverine. She someday wants to be an artist, but hasn’t been ready yet to show her work.

The Hero: Mateo Cruz - He is a werewolf who has been cursed by a witch. He is unable to change into his wolf form, and since then his inner wolf has been bristling near his surface and constantly talking and driving him crazy, alternately wanting to jump the bones of every woman he sees and start fights with every man.

The Story: Mateo needs a hex breaker to do away with the hex on him and Evie is known as the best in the city. His wolf has slowly been driving him crazy and he is unable to work. He is a well-known metal sculptor and owns his own gallery and hasn’t sculpted in weeks because his wolf is always in his ear. So he goes to Evie, who despite her the fact that her and her sisters never work with werewolves, who can be dangerous, decides to help him out.

While Evie learns more about Mateo’s hex, which is stronger and more complex than any she has dealt with before, Mateo finds that his wolf calms down whenever he is near Evie. So he asks her to spend time with him so he can sculpt and just have some time without his wolf prickling beneath his skin. Evie is attracted to the tall, dark and handsome man and Mateo is charmed by the unconventional witch.

This story was told in dual points of view via dual narration. It was narrated by Aiden Snow and Johanna Fairview who do a terrific job. I really like Aiden’s deep but soft sexy voice and I enjoyed his version of the wolf within Mateo, who was hilarious. Johanna has a clear intelligent sounding voice which portrayed the quirky witch very well.

I read Witches Get Stitches about a year and a half ago and really enjoyed that one, and planned to do the rest of the series since then, but hadn’t had a chance before now, so when this audiobook went on sale, I grabbed it. I like witch books sometimes, especially when set in contemporary times. These are whimsical and offbeat and I really enjoyed it.

I liked the fact that the romance developed naturally as the two main characters got to know each other. Also the way the characters supported each other makes the romance so much better. Though it wasn’t all sweet and light. There was still plenty of steam. The mystery of who hexed Mateo and why was very interesting as well.

This is one of the hardest reviews I've ever had to write. I've been going back and forth, trying to figure out how to adequately capture just how freaking AMAZEBALLS this story was. How can I get you, my fellow reader, to fully understand the necessity of adding this book to your reading experience? How can I provide you with sufficient information to tempt you into taking the plunge, without giving too much of this story's SENSATIONAL goodness away? Juliette Cross will always be one of my favorite authors and this book only further cemented that fact!

There's an insanely sexy werewolf named Mateo. I mean, this man is freaking SEX-SAY!
🐾 He's a metalwork artist, owns his own gallery, and the author created him with such perfection that I was left swooning and silly all over the place. Every scene left me with a goofy smile on my face and I was in absolute heaven with this man!!
🐾 He's been cursed, he doesn't know who did it, and honestly it was hard to believe someone would do that to him because he was such an incredible man. Honest and kind, humble and talented, he was everything a girl could want and wish for in a fantastic hero.

Then there's Evie, a witch, a hex breaker, and generally impressive person
🐾She was a heroine after my own heart. She was a geek when it came to all things Marvel (like me), she was obsessed with Star Wars (like me) ... to be real, if I had even a modicum of artistic talent (like my kids), I'd totally see myself in her. As it was, she was AWESOME! She was full of pure and positive energy, she was sweet and smart, and she was breathtaking.
🐾While working to help Mateo unleash his wolf, she befriends him and quickly learns that remaining friends isn't what she truly wants. How can she possibly resist his stunning temptation?

Seriously, if you love romance... if you love great characters... if you love all things paranormal... if you love to laugh and swoon and grin like a loon... you will most definitely LOOOOOVE this book!!

And that means this was a solid read that I do recommend, but...

I'm was little confused by this book. I think that the central idea was great and that was what caught my attention in the blurb. But, there were some issues - So, I'm going to break down what I liked and what I didn't enjoy so much:

Loved:
The cover! It's truly gorgeous and gives you a beautiful magical vibe.

The main idea of having a different personality (wolf) in the MC's head is a nice way to twist a multiple personality plot and it was very interesting.

Really liked:
Evie as a character, New Orleans as a background and the funny and sweet side of Mateo.

Not a fan:
Weird pacing, dialogues didn't always click. I was never too concerned or too preoccupied. I understand the nods and modern references to TV shows and other contemporary topics but to me, it took me out of the magical world we were within the book.

Overall, it was a fun and interesting read. I see a lot of potential within this world, its rules and its characters. It will be interesting to see if Juliette Cross will continue to explore this universe.

I LOVED THIS WAY TOO MUCH !
A werewolf looking to break a curse preventing him to shift into his wolf requests the skills of a powerful hex-breaking witch. The blurb sounded like a whole lotta fun and let's say it delivered MORE than I expected.

For me, the spell was cast from page one, witnessing the duality of Mateo and this trapped entity... his inner wolf, Alpha , internally bicker as they tried to get the upper hand on one another.
Then came the constant irreverent, crude, salacious and unpredictable commentary from Alpha , you couldn't have removed the smile on my face then, I was charmed by this weird yet engaging twosome. Moonstruck? The retorts between Mateo and his inner Wolf decidedly edged toward split personality disorder but they were definitely comedy gold!
If you like jealous possessive alphas, then this unusual duet is for you, Mateo's inner Wolf has two hot buttons : "Protect what's mine, claim what's mine" it's hilarious, endearing at times because it's such a raw feeling and surprisingly SEXAAAAY. Wow. Alpha is definitely ALL dawg. The dirty talk was Fiiiiiine!

The heroine is adorkable, a closeted artist and a full on nerdy girl so it wasn't all that hard for me to fall for her. Nerdgasms aplenty if you happen to enjoy Marvel and SWU fandoms —beware of Star Wars spoilers! LOL— I loved that the author got her references right —with the exception of the Daredevil fries at a DC themed grill restaurant. Eh— and used them to bring Evie and Mateo together on personal level. Evie's relationship with her sisters was also a great deal of entertainment, the 6 of them (if I counted right Jules, Evie, Violet, Clara, Isadora and...Livvy?) ran a full spectrum of witchcraft and personalities, I can't wait to read their books next!

I thought the story was well conducted, the paranormal intrigue present but interspersed with enough banter, sass, geek culture, romance and STEAM to make of Wolf Gone Wild the perfect page turner.

You'd think because of such display of bestial carnality from Alpha the author wouldn't make us work for some much needed relieved tension you'd get that wrong. The slow burn in this book just about killed me!!! Not to say all the slow building between Mateo and Evie wasn't delicious but ugh, have some mercy, author!
That being said, when Mateo finally gets along Alpha 's line of thoughts and is ready to claim Evie (yeah we're in this strange threesome relationship, get used to it) : GLORIIIIOUS

#IspreakFrenchFries
A minor #ISpeakFrenchFries note here, as the few French sentences in the book were not correct but I'm truly nitpicking here. (it's mostly "vous/tu" and accents mistakes.)

3.5 A wolf wants what he wants stars

I have been waiting to get my hands on this one, the only problem is that I only liked it..not loved it, unfortunately. This being said I still highly recommend this book .

*What I loved:*
ALPHA! yeah! he was my favorite , freaking adored him😍
(some of his monologue in Mateo head made me laugh out loud ⬇ )
"Hey. I can be gentle. Go get that red-haired witch, and I’ll show her how gently I can smack her ass."

"I wish you’d lose control of your dick, because my balls are so blue you could sprinkle glitter on them and hang ’em on a Christmas tree."

Mateo was gentle and caring but far too soft for my taste ,so yeah, I much prefer his wolf Alpha.

I also liked Ruben and the sisters, I think they will be awesome in their own books and I already matched them up with whom I think they will be 😁

*What disappointed me:*
Well, I was expecting way more intensity and that WOW feeling that I had when reading other books of JC ,This was more like a paranormal rom-com with a splash of sexy. Was sooo slow burn that I was wondering if its actually a YA book . Thank God we had Alpha and his dirty thoughts to keep this in the NA area.

I wanted a real plot, some angst and twist and turns but it felt just decent and meh.

Overall this could be a big win for others I m sure of that, it just wasn't quite enough for me, especially because I know JC can write brilliant intense heartwarming stories.

!! For fans of Star Wars ,this is full of spoilers so read at your own cost if you haven't seen the movies.🤣🤣🤣

I know so many people love this one, but it just didn't work for me. I listened to the audiobook for this one, and it was really hard for me to get through. I really loved the idea of the hero having his wolf trapped inside of him and how his wolf was a different personality/person than he was. It was fun watching the wolf become possessive and obsessed with the heroine. Unfortunately, the plot itself was really hard for me to get through because it was so slow and boring. Not a whole lot happened and I expected a lot more paranormal. What I wanted, though, didn't really happen until the last ten percent. The rest barely really had any paranormal and I was just reading about them doing mundane things and talking. The story just went on too long and could have been cut down without really losing anything. I really wanted to love this one, but I just couldn't get into the story.

*Reread in 2022 for a Patron.*

********

Reread: Just reread this via audiobook. So excited for everyone to get their hands on this. This story really comes alive as an audio performance. It was funny, sexy, clever, and delightful.

So glad I read this again. Mateo and Evie just make me smile and I didn't stop smiling the whole time.

*Thank you to the author and podium audio for an ARC of the audiobook*

So cute and sexy and fun! Just the light hearted read I needed.

5 sexy wolf stars ✨

Ever read a book for the second time, and fall more in love this time vs the first? This is a prime example as to why we should read what we are in the mood for. I read this last summer, and I don’t feel I appreciated it as much as I do now. This book was PHENOMENAL! So freakin good, and the audio—chefs kiss. I’m so glad I gave into that voice in my subconscious that forced me to reread. I’m ready to dive into all the others now!

Mateo was everything! The perfect blend of my favorite kind of alpha male. This book had witty banter, sexy inner monologue (thank you, Alpha), and a smoking hot build up to the big 😮. I fell in love with the sisters, the city (I’m a Deep South girl myself), and this amazing story! It’s just plain perfect and exactly what I needed!!

Onto book 2!!

2,5 to 3 stars

A book that should have taken me a day, maybe two, took me almost a month to read!! I feel like this is a good story, but 100-150 unnecessary pages weighed it down.

It started off good. I liked Evie and Mateo and the chemistry between them, the inner conversation between Mateo and Alpha was funny. It promised to be an interesting read with some voodoo magic thrown in, but somewhere around 40% it fell off the rails and just felt extremely slow.

Good:

New Orleans. The hidden supernatural world of witches, werewolves, vampires and other creatures. Evie's family of witches and voodoo magic. All of these promised a fun read.

Not good:

But for the story placed in supernatural New Orleans, there was just not enough magic in the book. If not the Alpha and constant reminder that heroes supposed to be a witch and a werewolf, sometimes it was very easy to forget that it's not just a contemporary romance read. The witchy/voodoo stuff happened only once every 20% of the book.

So there's a hex that heroes supposed to break. But it seems that around 30% they completely forgot about it, it was just Evie and Matheo going on "dates".

The Alpha from funny quickly became awkward and then just openly disturbing.

Bad:

The one and only thing that annoyed me more than anything else was the constant mention of Star Wars and Reylo. COME ON!

The ending wasn't a big surprise, but I hoped for something else.

Wolf Gone Wild is the first book in a new fantasy series.
Mateo Cruz is a werewolf, who is looking for someone to break a hex that permits him to shift. And that someone is powerful hex -breaking witch Evie Savoie.
While Mateo is a loner wolf, Evie has a big family. She is one of six Savoie sisters. Each of them has special magic skills.
Even though they are hesitant at first to help a werewolf, soon all sister present Evie, Jules, Violet and Clara ( two are traveling) are helping Mateo.
In between all the mystery-solving, Mateo & Evie get to know each other.

What I loved about this book were all these new and fun characters.
I really enjoyed this lighthearted & steamy paranormal romance.
The chemistry between Evie & Mateo is off the charts.... HOT!!!

This is a book for you if you are looking for a fun & feelgood book!!

Now, why this wasn't a perfect read for me is the way Mateo inner dialogue with his wolf went. This is something completely subjective. I needed to get used to the constant bickering between Mateo and his Alpha. It felt a lot of times like double personality disorder. And I can't say that I am a fan.

I am definitely are looking forward to reading more about these characters. And already hinted couples are looking very promising.

If you love to read a steamy romance with warlocks, witches, werewolves & vampires this a book for you!! Great start to a series...

Thanks to the publisher and NetGalley for a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review!

DNF’d at 60% which I feel like is far enough for me to review.

this is the unsexiest and most immature romance book I’ve ever read, I’ve never hated a protagonist more, I couldn’t tell any of the sisters apart because the only difference in any of them was their hair colors, and the dialogue made me want to die just a little bit. one chapter used the sentence “I ogled the menu and wanted to spank it and make it my bitch” then calls the menu “amazeballs” then says the restaurant they’re at is the “epicest” surprise ever. it made me for real hate living momentarily.

this could absolutely be someone else’s dream romance novel! I hope that person finds this series! I’m sure they would have a fun time with these characters and this dialogue. it is very much not for me!

Mateo Cruz's wolf is trapped, with one fierce hex and he needs the help of a witch before he gives into the violence driving is wolf (aka Alpha). Powerful witch, Evie Savoie has always obeyed the house rules of her coven--no werewolves, but when Mateo pleads for help, she cannot turn away. Together the two were cute, their chemistry clear - I just wanted a bit more sizzle and snap when it came to the heat and attraction between them.

The conversations between Alpha and Mateo had me smirking a fair bit.

Ruben Dubois who is the head of the southern vampires, is a secondary character I'm looking forward to seeing more of, especially given Evie's sister's reaction to him.
