The idea for the book was not bad & the writing style was okay, however the characters were awful! The "heroine" (and I use this term loosely) was completely unlikeable. Between cutting words all over her entire body, doing hard core drugs with her 13 year old sister, & having sex with a teenage boy that she was old enough to mother, what's left to like? I realize the heroine had a totally messed up childhood but I could not even pity her! She did not have one redeeming quality! The author should have concentrated more on making the storyline/plot disturbing instead of the characters. There was not one likable character throughout! The alcoholism was off the charts! This book had potential but was completely ruined by the characters. It rambled on & on & on about meaningless nothing! (alcohol, drugs, weird sex) I have enjoyed books that have a lot of the previous (alcohol, drugs, & sex) but this was just plain weird. The author's writing style was not bad & something (I'm not sure what) kept me reading until the bitter end. I would not recommend this book to anyone. I hope the author writes more & focuses more on the plot & makes at least one of her characters remotely likeable! I have not completely given up on this author & will try reading her new book "Dark Places".

I have to again say that I cannot believe anyone thought this book was good. I am AMAZED! To each his own...
Raymond, have you read any of her other books?

Yes I have. I read Gone Girl and I really enjoyed it. That is why I figured I would try Sharp Objects. The two just don't compare and hard to believe they were written by same author
Well maybe I'll give gone girl a shot then. I feel the same about J. K. Rowling's Casual Vacancy and The Cuckoo's Calling (AKA Robert Galbraith) I hated A Casual Vacancy possibly as much as Sharp Objects and loved The Cuckoo's Calling.
Totally agree with your review! What a disturbing book, with no likable characters!
Dark Places and Gone Girl are both great books. She went very wrong with this one!

And I agree about Cuckoos Calling! Loved it and Silkworm, did not care for Casual Vacancy! Do I dare read Dark Places?
I was wondering the same thing myself! In regards to Robert Galbraith's series, I can't wait for the third installment! The audio version of these are excellent. Love this series.
I probably will read Dark Places just to be curious! I'm excited to hear there's a third installment in the other series!! I have my books downloaded on my Nook.
Don´t read Dark Places! After Gone Girl I also thought on diving into her books, but almost drown my self. Avoid!
Haven’t finished yet but I think I figured out who murdered the girls from the beginning. But I completely agree with this review! Not one character had a redeeming quality. They were all terrible people, but I think I’m sticking with it just to see if I’m right about the murderer. Other than that, not a fan.
