Excellent recommendation from one of my dear friends, Laci! I listened to it all while fishing on this beautiful day! We didn't catch many, but I didn't notice, since this book captured my attention, kept me in suspense and could not stop listening to it. Excellent writing from this author.
5 years ago Lucy walked from the woods covered in her friend Savvy's blood. With a head injury of her own, she cannot remember killing her best friend, but the community tried and convicted her. Without clear evidence of the crime, she was able to move away from her small town in Texas to California.
When her 80 year old grandmother, Beverly, invites her back to help celebrate, she returns because she adores this quirky, lovable character. Her grandmother is the only one that believes she is innocent while her parents even think she is guilty. The feisty Beverly has a whole lot more up her sleeve. Her return makes everyone uncomfortable. When a podcast "Listen for the Lie" about the murder of her best friend begins, she becomes the center of everyone's gossip and stares once again.
Ben Owens carries out the podcasts interviewing those connected to the case and eventually Lucy tells what she remembers. With dark humor, mainly coming from Lucy, as well as Savvy being her conscious telling her to kill everyone she comes in contact with, is never dull and sometimes a LOL will occur.
The town is corrupt and full of cheating spouses and friends that anyone could be a suspect with a motive. The ending is a surprise twist and worth the wait.
