Pros:
This book is a fast, fun little read likely perfect for fans of the Sookie Stackhouse series by Charlaine Harris. The main character also has the ability to read minds but her powers are not limited to humans.
While parts of the story were very predictable there were still some twists and turns that caught me off guard. It seems to be setting up to be more of a series and also appears to be connected to another series so those who enjoy this story will have a full world to explore.
Cons:
I got the book because of the beautiful autumnal cover. All those gorgeous fall leaves had me thinking it would really be a great fall read and maybe even include Halloween. Autumn only really gets mentioned in a single chapter where the main characters go to an apple orchard so it was a bit of a let down.
I found it insanely weird that the main female character took her pets almost everywhere with her without leashes or anything protective. I get that she can talk to them and understand them but no one else knows that. Moreover, a country club wouldn’t be able to have loose animals inside the areas that serve food without violating tons of health codes.
