Living in Brambleberry Bay is proving to be a real killer.
Includes Recipe! My name is Hattie Holiday, and I can read minds. Sure people have all kinds of rogue thoughts running around up there, but I’m far more interested in using my special abilities to talk to my cat, Cricket, and whatever other furry creature I happen to come upon.
Recently, I’ve lost my job at the public library but lucky for me a position opened up at the local country club, as an events coordinator, and I happened to secure the position. And since my love for books follows me wherever I go, not only will I have extravagant affairs to supervise but I’ve already snagged a few people to start a book club with.
Sure the country club is pretentious and smells of old and new money, but I knew that going in. What I didn’t bargain for was finding a body right out the gate. And that book club I’ve just started up? Let’s just say the book club is out and the murder club is in. What I didn’t see coming were the secrets, and the deception, and the killer twist of a lifetime.

Henrietta Holiday (Hattie), for short, has an adorable tan tabby named Cricket, and they live in Brambleberry Bay in coastal Maine. Hattie also has Ginger, her ruby red 1953 Ford F-100 that once belonged to her grandfather. Hattie was a librarian at the local library, but due to budget cutbacks, she needed a new job and will be the event planner at the country club. At least, that's the plan.
Hattie and Cricket can talk to one another as Hattie is a transmundane like her grandmother, and their conversations are darling and fun, and that's even before Hattie decides they should take care of Rookie, a Golden Retriever that suddenly finds himself without an owner. Add Detective Killion Maddox from the Eagle County Sheriff's Department to the mix; the fun never stops. I was so distracted by thoughts of the detective I didn't even think to mention the book club members. Just wait until you read about their evenings together.
I selected "Brambleberry Bay Murder Club" following one of Fish and Chip's recommendations. If you're unaware of who Fish and Chip are, you need to sign up for the author's newsletter as soon as you finish reading my review. Sometimes Fish and Chip take over writing Addison's newsletter, and you won't want to miss any of their news!
A recipe from the "Kitchen of Hattie Holiday Grandma's Chocolate Chip Cookies with Walnuts" is included.
That was a lot of fun. For the most part, I really enjoyed Hattie. She’s spunky, clever, and has a wicked sense of humor. I wasn’t the biggest fan of some of her knee-jerk reactions over people’s private inner thoughts, but I think I kind of understand the sentiment. I think Killion is kind of adorable, even if he doesn’t have the greatest first impression of our heroine. Their banter left me in fits of giggles and their chemistry nearly singed my eyeballs. There’s quite the little twist at the end and I’m desperate to find out what it will mean for the next book. I received a complimentary advanced copy of this book through Booksprout.
This book is a fast, fun little read likely perfect for fans of the Sookie Stackhouse series by Charlaine Harris. The main character also has the ability to read minds but her powers are not limited to humans.
While parts of the story were very predictable there were still some twists and turns that caught me off guard. It seems to be setting up to be more of a series and also appears to be connected to another series so those who enjoy this story will have a full world to explore.
Cons:
I got the book because of the beautiful autumnal cover. All those gorgeous fall leaves had me thinking it would really be a great fall read and maybe even include Halloween. Autumn only really gets mentioned in a single chapter where the main characters go to an apple orchard so it was a bit of a let down.
I found it insanely weird that the main female character took her pets almost everywhere with her without leashes or anything protective. I get that she can talk to them and understand them but no one else knows that. Moreover, a country club wouldn’t be able to have loose animals inside the areas that serve food without violating tons of health codes.
This was a cute little fall read that I actually really enjoyed. I found myself getting tired of reading nothing but thrillers and this is exactly what I needed. There was just enough drama and suspense and I found the talking pets and the mind reading charming. I liked that the book ended on a slight cliffhanger to make you want to read the next in the series.
Being able to hear other peoples thoughts can clarify some things but muddle others , especially if you respond or react like you just heard them. Of course knowing your pet’s thoughts, and holding conversations with them can also make people look at you oddly. A fun, laugh-out -loud cozy mystery.
I enjoyed this book. It was an easy read and the ending had a nice twist that I wasn’t expecting at all. If you’re looking for a good fall cozy mystery-this is your book!
This was a fun little quirky read. Not to be taken too seriously the main character Hattie likes to play Nancy Drew and is aided by her ability to know what people (and her pets) are thinking. The author has a writing style that made reading fun. The story moved right along.
Hattie Holiday is trying to get to a job interview. When her truck gets a flat tire, she knows that she'll be late for the interview. Stopping on the roadway near her, a handsome guy offers to help but she is not friendly and doesn't want his help. She doesn't expect that she'll ever see him again but he's at the Country Club when she finally arrives. Of course, she's late and has missed the interview. Hattie meets a club member who assures her that she has connections and can get the job for her. Then as she's leaving, she stumbles over a murder victim! An integral part of the story is that Hattie is telesensual. She can hear the thoughts of nearby people and animals too. She's determined to solve the murder but that "hot guy" she refused help from... he's a detective with the local police. He tells her to stay out of it but she just can't seem to be able to drop it. Hattie cracks me up. When she hears people's thoughts, she often responds out loud to what she's heard. The detective, Killion, can't understand why she seems to reply to what he's thinking. I really enjoyed this first book in this new series. The plot was interesting. And... there's a crazy cast of characters that add a lot to the storyline. If you like cozy mysteries, I think you'll like this new series.

This a great new cozy mystery series! Addison Moore is an amazing author. If you love her other books as much as I do, this one will be no exception. If this is your first time trying her books out you will not be disappointed. Hattie is a new character that happens to be related to Bizzy Baker out in Cider Cove. They both share the crazy ability to read minds. Hattie is more of an independent chick. While trying to secure a new job a number of things go wrong and a flat tire isn't even the beginning. After arriving late at what was supposed to be an interview in the middle of a company event she stumbles upon a body! She may be there for the position of event planner but she wastes no time jumping on the unofficial investigation team. I loved reading this book as it intertwined with a few characters from past series. If you are looking to start a new cozy mystery series I suggest starting here!
Hattie is late to her job interview due to unfortunate events. She manages to secure the job. Hattie is introduced to several members of the club and invited to join a bookclub. Hattie can't help but over hear the others thoughts. Hattie decides to get fresh air when she falls over a dead body. Hattie will work to figure out who committed the crime, even if the detective doesn't like it.
Hattie is a fun character with her ability to hear thoughts. Hattie and Killion will a lot of interesting interactions due to this. Hattie will do whatever she can to figure out the murder and other weird stuff that is going on. Hattie will find herself in some situations but will she be able to make out alive.
I didn't go into details of story as not to spoil this for anyone. This is a fun book to disappear in for awhile. You will enjoy your time, I highly recommend reading.
This author has an amazing way of capturing your attention and holding from the first page until the last. This book is no different. If you've read one of this author's previous mystery series then you know that it's going to be good.
Hattie Holiday is the man femlae lead of this series. She has the ability to hear the thoughts of those around her, animal and human. Trying to get a new job at a country club get a bit troublesome after she stumbles upon a body.
The local detective, who she's already had a less than fortunate runin with, is tasked with investigating. However, Hattie along with her book club turned amatuer investigators decide to investigate as well.
This story has everything you need and want in a good fell-good mystery novel. I had a blast reading it and look forward to reading what comes next.
A fun and interesting premise, but the overall plot is a little tired, and there was far too much romance for me. The tension between Hattie and the detective was a little strained, almost as if the author really had to try to hard. In the end, the overall story was a little surprising and totally engaging. The fact that there was no outright and obvious distinction between thoughts and words of the characters seemed intentional and appropriate. Clearly, when either of the animals "talked" it was totally mental, but it flowed with the story. I'm sort of looking forward to the other books in the series… I'm tempted to go ahead and read them before continuing with my audiobooks that are piling up in the "I gotta read this" stack (three years no sleep worth). I really liked the story… the presentation, not so much. But fun…
Brambleberry Bay Murder Club is the first book in this cozy murder mystery series. Hattie Holiday is the lead female and this is focused around her. She can her thoughts of those around her. In this first book do to cutbacks Hattie was let go from the library and was given the opportunity to work for the country club. After almost not getting the job because of her truck breaking down and missing the first meeting she finds herself tripping over a member of the club. Because she has the ability to hear peoples thoughts she hear several people expressing they are glad she is gone. Because of this her curiosity is peaked and now she want to solve the cause of death. But to her dismay the lead detective is someone she has met and doesn’t care for.
I’m hooked on this series already not only was this a great cozy mystery but this was kind of giving me PLL vibes. These country club wives had so many secrets as well as a possible murder under their belt, which that storyline seems to ongoing in the series. Hattie is in more trouble than she was in this book. I loved the whole secrets in high society. I loved the mystery, which kept me very much engaged. I loved Hattie could read minds of human and animals, adding an interesting angle to the story. The animal companions were great and so funny. Killian was a stud muffin, who had all type of chemistry with Hattie from the moment they met. The way that their romance was developing was just first class. It was so good.

I was in the mood for something light and entertaining. This had good reviews AND A CAT, so it seemed tailor-made. I was disappointed first at the profuse descriptions in the beginning of the book but then became completely turned off by the very poor writing. Here are two examples from just one page, and they are NOT the only ones I could have cited, “ I’m a lifer, born and raised under a Brambleberry sky as my mother likes to say….I’ve had Cricket for going on a year now right after I moved into Moody Meadows, a smattering of A-frame cabins set on an acreage just outside the apple orchard”. I cannot get into the vibe of a book when I keep getting pulled out by poor writing and punctuation. I am sorely disappointed.
Brambleberry Bay Murder Club by Addison Moore is a delightful little cozy about a woman who can read minds and talks to her animals. A fun, lighthearted murder mystery, with lovable and quirky characters. Hattie Holiday just lost her job at the library and takes a job at the local Country Club as an events coordinator,. Her first night on the job she stumbles over a dead body. After a bad start with a hunky detective she continues to get on his bad side by sticking her nose in the investigation. I love Addison Moore’s books and this new series doesn’t disappoint. I look forward to the rest of the series. I received a free ARC of this ebook from BookSprout.
Hattie Holiday is the new events coordinator at the local country club in Brambleberry Bay, Maine. Hattie has barely begun her new job, when she stumbles across a dead body. Before Detective Killian Maddox even determines that foul play is involved, Hattie is on the case. Hattie has a slight advantage over other amateur sleuths, as she can read people's (and animals') minds, if she's physically close enough to them.
Hattie is fun and entertaining, and Detective Killian Maddox seems fairly nice, but the majority of the characters are not very likable, which makes them all probable suspects for the murder victim's untimely demise.
Hattie Holiday is another transmundane- reading the minds of humans and pets - except for white noise when things get x rated.
She recently lost her library job due to budget cuts. a new job as an events coordinator at the local country club is revealing itself as hiding lethal dangers.
rich people with secrets, pets with insights and humor, crazy family members alongside some possible friends who might be more than a little murderous - fun reading ahead.

I loved this new series and this first book was a great start!! Hattie Holiday is the main character in this series and she starts solving murders along with her book club. She has the ability, like Bizzy Baker in another series, to read minds and talk to animals. That would be such an awesome gift to have!!
And of course, there's always a new love interest - Killion, the hot detective!!
A fast paced mystery, with lovable characters, interesting fun plot, splash of humor and a classic who-done-it feel. I really liked Haddie and cast of characters.
Overall I found Brambleberry Bay Murder Club quite enjoyable, I look forward to more in this new series. I highly recommend to those who enjoy cozy murder mysteries.
On the whole quite amusing, at least most of the time, but the characters were completely unrealistic (and I do not mean the mind reading). I would say they are all very much exaggerated stereotypes. And again, the law enforcing element in the shape of one very attractive detective - I can only say, any of them here behaving like this, they would very quickly receive a written warning, or instant dismissal. I cannot imagine it is different in the USA. Not going to buy more books in this series.
Nah, not so much. I wanted something light and fluffy for a bedtime read and got this based on the reviews and a woman who can read animals minds and sometimes people too.
It immediately starts out with saying “Hattie Two weeks from now…”, and some pretty graphic violence with no background info. Then moves directly to saccharine sweet “now”. So, I guess background info comes later in the book.
But, I couldn’t get past chapter one…..too much skipping around. So, I will look elsewhere for a bedtime book.
Addison Moore does it again! Her new series, Brambleberry Bay Murder Club has it all. Hattie Holiday, mind reader extraordinaire, starts a new career as an event planner. With old money divas, rivalry to be on top, and a "book club", Hattie will have her hands full. When she stumbles across a body, she'll need the help of detective Killion, the deceased victim's dog, Rookie, her own cat, Cricket, and her newfound "friends" to catch a killer.
I like all the books I've read so far Addison Moore has written. Hattie is a good character. She reads minds of people and animals. Cricket, her cat, is adorable. Rookie, a dog friend, is funny. Hattie has a murder to solve. She meets many suspects and a handsome detective named Killion. The plot has humor and some surprises. I will be reading the next book.
This is an amusing and interesting concept. Hattie can read human and pet minds which leads to some fun interactions. She investigates a murder at her workplace which lands her in trouble from the lead detective and also some man-eating females. Very enjoyable and lots of fun with some dark undertones. Looking forward to the next in series.
This is another cute cozy mystery by Addison Moore. Hattie Holiday is a baker that caters her goodies to get togethers. At one of these affairs, she encounters a dead body. People assume that it is her goodies that poisoned the woman. This leads Hattie to trying to solve the murder, much to Detective Killion Maddox's chagrin. Hattie's ability to read the minds of animals adds a cute balance of humor to this book.
Brambleberry Bay Murder Club is the first book in this new series and is a fantastic start to the series. I really liked this book and meeting the characters. This book has humour, murder, and twists and turns to enjoy.

This is a good cozy mystery. Bizzy's, cousin Hattie can also hear peoples thoughts and solve mysteries herself. Along with Killion her detective friend she sorta solves the ongoing mystery. This is the first book in the new series. I borrowed this book from Kindle Unlimited. This in no way affects my opinion of this book which I read and reviewed voluntarily.
