As a debut author, Stacy Willingham impressed me with this psychological thriller. I enjoyed the book a lot and excited to see more from this author.
Chloe Davis was only 12 years old when her father was arrested and sentenced to life in prison for six missing teenage girls. Although their bodies were never recovered, Chloe revealed evidence her father had in his possession belonging to each victim. This sent her family into a tailspin of emotional breakdowns. Her mother's failed suicide attempt left her in a debilitating state in a medical facility and Chloe and her brother Cooper were sent to live with an aunt.
Twenty years later, Chloe is a successful psychologist trying to assist teenagers, while planning her wedding with Daniel. Her coping skills are less than perfect and cause more harm than good, which entail alcohol and prescription drugs. She has learned to deal with the hand she has been dealt. When two teenage girls are reported missing and each have been in contact with Chloe, her paranoia returns. She begins to make accusations and assumptions leaving her less than reliable for the detectives delight.
There are a lot of red herrings sprinkled throughout and the book is fast paced with a lot of details to visualize what is happening. The ending is not surprising, but there are twists to throw you off before you get to it. The characters are well-placed and believable. Great job, Stacy!

I'm glad you enjoyed this one. The writing with all the metaphors was a stumbling block to me but it's simply a personal preference. Great review L.A.!
