Ellisse Reading the summary it seems like a similar concept to The Priory of the Orange Tree by Samantha Shannon. Did anyone find that?

thewindsofthenorth @Ellisse I read both and they’re actually quite different even though the general vibes are somewhat similar. The Poppy War is much more violent and has a lot of militar strategy/war and has a parallelism with modern Chinese history even though it’s a fantasy. The Priory of the Orange Tree is much more focused on fantasy elements and fits more the usual profile of a high-fantasy.

thewindsofthenorth @Ellisse (both are absolutely amazing)

Ellisse @ the windsofthenorth - ok awesome! Thanks for clarifying that, it sounds really interesting. Appreciate the heads up on the violence too. Thank you!!

Sylvy R. ... yeah. I mean, it's not a piece of cake, but totally worth it.

Sylvy R. @ellisse I really liked this one & had great expectations about The Priory, but I didn't like it as much. What about you?
