Yeah, that seemed unlikely, maybe the owner/pharmacist plays. It's the only way that I imagine it happening then or now.

I did feel some of the movie scenes were over the top - like when she is in the drugstore - and there prominently displayed beside Time and Newsweek is a chess magazine - as if. ( I mean you would have to search the shelves of a large magazine store to find anything on chess)
