Kuang is a ruthless Queen. Are you expecting closure? *evil laugh*

There are too many things to discuss and I am emotionally unstable.

You know what, I feel like I've said all I need to say for this series in my The Poppy War and The Dragon Republic reviews. Read those if you feel so inclined and still need a push to read this series or the other reviews because I need... err.. space.

— overall thoughts: 4.5 —

Admittedly, I had some problematic parts with the build up in the middle and how the Trifecta storyline was handled, but I'll look over that because of the character dynamics and execution of the the ideas that went into the series. Kuang achieved what she wanted to achieve.

----------------
I haven’t finished it yet but you know what we should be talking about: THE PLATONIC LOVE CONTENT 😭💖 there’s a conversation that could be told discussing if it really is selfless love from Rin’s perspective or if it’s just because of the power she gains from it. Which either way, is so compelling to read and analyze.

Most of the negative reviews I see about this series is always talking about how they don’t like Rin but I mean— you’re not supposed to?? A well-written character does not always have to be morally pure and good. I think it takes skill to be able to write a dislikable main character but still have people want to read about them.

welcome back to another edition of: *closes my eyes while running away to an isolated island to avoid spoilers*

krista ☽✧ totally agree about the last part with a charracters that doesnt need to be morally perfect and good. i always enjoy morally grye charracters that arent all good or all bad but can be explored. i mean people are like that , peopel arent always perfect and good

John I thought this was a perfect ending for Rin

Althea ☾ @krista exactly!!! it was so well executed as well ❤️

Laura Amazing review lovely and I agree, we are not supposed to like Rin. A good MC should be questioned by the reader!

Althea ☾ @john same here! I saw it coming but the execution was better than I thought it would be. I loved everything about the ending.

Althea ☾ @Laura YESS!! this exactly. I really could not have asked for a better executed ending.

Jonathan O'Neill Great stuff Althea! I'm glad you loved it! I don't think you can completely disregard those who dislike Rin though 😂
Personally, morality was only one aspect of what made me dislike her. I find her a rather inconsistent character that lacked any serious depth, is ignorant, bull-headed and never provoked any emotion from me other than annoyance. In short, contrary to your point, I actually find her to be an unlikeable main character who I don't particularly want to read about. I would love to have my opinion changed in this final book though!
I say all this in good nature. Just wanted to clarify a possible alternate opinion. :)

Althea ☾ @Jonathan oh definitely! we're all entitled to our own opinions :) Personally, I could agree that she isn't given as much of a background as you would usually find in high fantasy but rather the focus was on her choices and what her choices led to within the story/plot.

She is ignorant and bull-headed which is, I think, exactly how she was supposed to be written. I was definitely annoyed of her and I think she's crazy but I found it interesting to analyze the way she interacted with the other characters, specially Kitay given how they're connected. I definitely understand when people say they don't want to read about a character like that though! It boils down to preference :D

Honestly, the reason that I didn't think this series was perfect was because I found the plot and the build up to be inconsistent a lot of times so XD
