I have zero time for this close-minded woman or anything she writes.
Plus, offering it free online and then taking it down so you can make money off a print version? Did the HP cash cow run dry?
GTFO

Glad to know the royalties are actually going "to help groups who've been particularly impacted by the pandemic". Whoever they may be.
Still don't support her, though.

This appears to just be a link to donate? I am looking for where it has been confirmed that the royalties will go to charity.

Not gonna comment on you accessing my whack dreams lol, but glad you agree.
I have actually read a lot of the stuff she has written on the subject in order to educate myself properly. I do believe that her not agreeing that trans women are women is transphobic. I understand the arguments she's trying to make, but ultimately she seems to be saying that trans women are not women because they have not suffered the way she has suffered for being a woman.
Clearly her own trauma has coloured her judgement, but ultimately I believe her views are harmful to the trans community, who deserve to be treated with respect and understanding.

May I ask if you are trans yourself? As I've only heard negative responses from trans people so I'm interested if other trans people feel the same as you. I don't think I've misunderstood her at all, but as I'm not trans myself I'm interested in knowing how people who are directly impacted by her voice are feeling about it.
And I am 100% never going to read Troubled Blood - even ignoring the drama and the fact that the book is 900+ pages, I read the first book in the series and it was terrible lol so I am definitely not wasting time on that hunk of junk XD

While that was quite interesting, it only addresses the new book. But I understand your point. I think we'd be best to agree to disagree.

Thanks for the link, Hung! I still don't support her but I'm really glad to know the money is going to a good cause.

I, too, was horrified by JK's comments earlier this year, but I'll defend to the death her right to have an opinion, even if I think that opinion is horseshit. And I'm not going to deny myself the joy of reading her books, that would be shooting myself in the foot. Roald Dahl was an anti-Semite asshat but his books were wonderful and I own almost all of them. Our bookshelves would be pretty emaciated if they only held books by writers whose opinions we agree with.

A fair point, certainly, and I agree. However sometimes an author opinion leaks into the book and it turns me off, anyway. In other cases, I know little to nothing about the author to begin with.
No one should be criticised for their opinion - I think the main drama here is when a person of influence has a negative viewpoint that harms others. That's when things start to get a bit dicey, and why I can't support her.
Regarding her writing, however ... I just don't want to read it because it's generally terrible. I will never deny the impact HP had on the reading world, but beyond that she hasn't produced anything particularly good.

Too true about the poison leaking into the books. I guess that's when we have to use our finely-honed discernment skills to decide what to read and buy and support. That way we can toss the books that are poisonous, even when we like the author (I've done a lot more of that.) That said, I support using our discernment skills to educate writers and others who harbour hatred and wilful misunderstanding, rather than fighting back with more hate. I loved the Harry Potter books, although not the Galbraith series, and think JKR is worth saving. She has a heck of a lot of influence and could be using it for good. Look at Dr. Seuss! Keep writing, BTW, I enjoy your reviews.

Thank you, Virginia, for this reminder. I think we're very much on the same page there, so you've pulled me back in line with that comment! I do tend to get caught up in the drama and forget to look at situations with that perspective. So thank you.
I think everyone is worth saving, and I do hope that JK will educate herself on the reasons for the backlash and hopefully become a little more understanding. That Galbraith series might not be worth saving, though! Haha
