The Sojourner by Marjorie Kinnan Rawlings (first published 1951) Recommended to me by Goodreads ("Based on Your Aging Shelf")

I couldn't get into it. Too many details and too much description at the start. I found the first pages too uninteresting to continue.

Nina I haven't read The Sojourner but I recommend you read, 'Cross Creek," after you finish this one. It was one of my all time favorite books and good movie also. I did visit Cross Creek and was fascinated by it.

Nina, thanks for recommending Cross Creek by the same author. Not sure I appreciate her style of writing.

PS-Here's the IMDb link for the movie: http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0085380/?...
Amazon description: "The Oscar nominated true story of the woman who wrote The Yearling."

Nina I thought the "Yearling" was an amazing well written story and it's one that really deserved the prize.

Joy H. I didn't read The Yearling. In fact the movie seemed too sad.

Nina Yes, it was a sad ending but did you see the movie? Gregory Peck was so good in it.

Joy H. I saw the movie years ago but I avoid it now because I know how sad it will make me.

message 7: by Nina (new)

Nina Yes, Joy I now feel the same way and I hate to have sad endings in books. There is enough true sadness in life and why add to it.
