All right, y'all, I'm hungry. Let's chat about this novel.

I usually enjoy Helena Hunting's books because they're a mix of fun escape, a tad improbable, and quite steamy. Kiss My Cupcake, on the other hand, didn't quite give me what I was expecting. While that's not necessarily a bad thing, I just never really connected with this book. There wasn't a long-lasting conflict in here, and everything kept wrapping up so neatly the entire time.

I'm also personally not a fan of Quirky Girl™ protagonists made in the image of Zooey Deschanel, so it took me a while to warm up to Blaire, and even when there was a pinch more depth added, there still wasn't a lot going on.

I'm sad that I could fully embrace this novel like I have Hunting's others, but I'm definitely going to keep reading her work. You win some, you lose some.

Jen Yess I feel this! There was zero conflict! I need a little more angst in my romance!

Yes, exactly! I normally really enjoy Helena Hunting's books, so I was sad!

preoccupiedbybooks Oh I'm so sick of quirky girl, thanks a lot Zooey 🙄😂😂I hope your next read is more engaging Lily!

Thanks! And same. I'm fine if there's more depth there (a la Jenn Sylvester from Penny Reid's Beard Science), but this unfortunately came across as pretty superficial.

Kristine I've only read the first few chapters in an early preview and I found Blaire really insufferable. I felt like Helena Hunting's characters in Meet Cute had so much more depth and their issues had more oopmh to them and pulled me in right from the beginning and this one just hasn't.
