“I have come home at last! This is my real country! I belong here. This is the land I have been looking for all my life, though I never knew it till now...Come further up, come further in!”

Aaaah! I can't believe I am done with this series... honestly, I did not expect to be so much involved with it by the end. When I read the first book (I read them in publication order, so my first one was The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe), I thought: "well, this is a cute story, I like it well enough"; then I went on and I wasn't really a fan of the middle books. But then I read The Magician's Nephew and this one and woah! I was blown away by the beauty and poetry of it all.

The last chapters of this books, the last chapters of the Chronicles of Narnia, are one of the most poetic and beautiful things I ever read; and I won't lie - I was moved to tears. It's just, the beauty of Aslan is just too much. I can't believe I waited since adulthood to read this whole series! And I am so glad I pushed through those middle books. Now I am sure I will re-read this series some time in the future! Beautiful.

Abigail The only thing I have ever disliked about this series is the treatment of Susan, in this final book (I think there is some casual misogyny there, and that is not a term I throw around lightly), and his distaste for coeducational schools in The Silver Chair, which I think reveals some unthinking class biases.

Otherwise, I find it beautiful, thoughtful, and rewarding of multiple rereads. I need to do one soon, so I can add my own reviews here! I have enjoyed following along as you discovered this series, which is a treasured memory from my childhood. :)

I agree about the treatment of Susan. Poor girl! I was so sad when I read of her in this last book. I enjoyed this series too, it was quite a ride :)

Alexandra Elend Wolf Great review!

This has been one of my favorite book series since I was a child. It's so magical and epic and it has it sadness too. I do think it's easier to appreciate it when you are an adult.

Thank you! this is a great series and even though I regret not having read it when I was the target age, I somehow feel glad that I got to read it for the first time as an adult, being able to appreciate every detail!!! :)

Abigail If you haven't watched it, I highly recommend the film about C.S. Lewis in his older years, and about his relationship with an American woman, Joy Davidman. He ended up marrying her, and raised his stepsons, who I believe now manage his literary estate. Lewis dedicated The Horse and His Boy to them. Anyhow, the movie is called Shadowlands and stars Anthony Hopkins and Debra Winger.

It must such a different experience indeed.

I can imagine it, though. I read the Harry Potter series until I was an adult and it felt pettry different but nice.

I see! I read Harry Potter as a child (I basically grew up with them) and it really influenced my taste in books!
