All her life, Rika wanted nothing more than become a moonburner like her mother. While her younger brother proudly shows his golden hair and seishen (a golden unicorn??? That's pretty amazing), Rika doesn't even have a single strand of silver hair. Rika should get powers accoring to the oracle's prophecy, so she still hoped. So when Rika finally got the chance to get her powers, she took it.

I've finished the series and now I feel like my life is empty. At first, I felt like Rika was a spoiled brat. I get she was excited to get her powers, but come on, listen to your parents, they just want you to be safe. But Rika's character growth was amazing. The events she witnessed turned her into a woman willing to risk everything for her country.

I didn't particularly feel for Vikal at first, but just like Rika, he grew on me. I loved that he still had to fight the demons of his past. I don't want to spoil anything, but want to say that I love the twist Claire Luana gave to a typical YA trope.

I highly recommend reading this novella if you enjoyed the first two books. If you didn't feel for the magic system in Moonburner and Starburner, you might want to read this book as well, because Claire Luana gave a whole new twist to this world!
